Come on mate, you know the Ducati drill. If it's got a full service history it should be good. Otherwise well.
Nice bike.

LB has one to go with her Monster 800 - she has the matching pair.
Here she is on one of them http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=3384&d=1094362327
She doesn't frequent this site anymore but if you PM me your email address I can put her in touch with you.

those engines put the power to the road well. is it a 2nd hand jap import? i would advise a steering dampner if there isnt 1 allready fitted.jimjim's cagiva wont rattle as it dosent run adry clutch set up if the rapster is so good why would it take more than 3 years for it to find a buyer.is it still on its 1st tank of gas jim.

Well if it's anything like my M750, then the suspension will be way too soft. And bits will drag on the ground very early. I had the suspension sorted cheaply, and things are STILL dragging on the ground. Mind you thats at the race track. The ones with conventional swingarms use the same frame/ suspension design as the 851. Single sided swingarm models- dunno, 916? So they will handle pretty good once the bouncy bits are sorted.
They are a hoot to ride though. Great brakes, great sound, really broad spread of torque but not much power to speak of on the 2 valve mode. Less likely to make you loose your licence. Some really clever engineering in some parts.... down right dopey in others. But hey, its Italian....

Its an S model, which apparently has the highest spec'd suspension components.

In that case it'd be pretty hard to go wrong. Even if the bike didn't suit you long term, you'd have no trouble selling it. And there's just something about them that makes them special
I bought a 2003 m1000 S i.e. last year. After struggling for several months with mystery ECU immobilisations, I finally replaced the factory ECU with a 'UltiMap' ECU. Shouted myself a pair of carbon fibre Arrows at the same time, and Wow!! What a difference!
I would estimate 15% more power.
Running a set of Metzler Sport tecs, and she now runs and handles like a dream.
I was offered good money for it in January, but when push came to shove I couldn't let her go.
I think the character of the Ducati helps balance out their slightly unpredictable mechanations.
Love it.

Thanks c4, the bike I'm looking at is the same model as yours only a 2004. At this stage I'm going to go for it, the seller is holding it for me until Monday when I'll let him know either way.

Well done mate.
Since I brought my Duc a few weeks back its been hard to get the grin off my face.
I love it and ride it more than my new Triumph.
The fact that its always in bits while I'm fixing and checking things is irrelevant.........
I think I'll be buying another one soon as well!

Congrats Mr Spud! A couple of guys I know have Monsters and I've never seen anyone more passionate about their bike than these guys. It's almost sickening.
They belong to the Ducati Owners Club and there is an organised ride around the South Island in a week or two. You should check it out.

The Sth Island is just a tad off the beaten track for me at the moment and I don't think that the boss would give me a leave pass with such short notice. Maybe next time?

Have the kids got to sit on it yet?

Good to know they're reputable - I'll be looking for a supplier to buy a 900ss from once I've got my full licence (hopefully 4th May).
Did think of a Monster originally but I'm over naked bikes now.

Enjoy your new ride Spud. I'm jealous I must say. Saw some Multistradas that emoto had on trademe recently, I was tempted indeed.
Good to see that it's not going to have any hangers-on/hanger-onners, er pillions. They bugger the handling that's for sure.
1 sleep til you can go ridin again!
