Anyone owned or ridden a Honda RVF400 ??

A friend is looking at one and I thought I'd ask.

Looks like a good bike, I used to have a much older VFR400 and quite emjoyed it.

awsome bikes, styling is awsome a baby rc45.

They say they are a little down on hp than the vfr400, but you can get more hp out them and they have more torque i believe, but not quote me on that KK is the man to vfr/rvfs

The rvf is the race version of the vfr.

I have some nissin front calipers from one if he needs them :)

Damn yes, they are awesome bikes. Haven't ever ridden one, but am seriously wanting to buy one when I get my full in a couple of months.

Did a bit of reasearch on them when looking to upgrade. They have less power than the zxr but i think it is more even/smooth power. Also they are hell expensive for what they are. I was told the VFR nc30 is a better buy (by a guy at a bike shop who owns one) the only major difference i can see is upside down forks and better looks(RVF). But ask KK he is the man to ask on all things 4 hundyish.

Sounds like a good 'day' bike to go 'riding' on.

That's what I thought. It was for sale just around the corner but apparently they already have a buyer.

Crap weather on the way home tonight. Wind was OK but got with with two hail storms. They weren't major so no biggie.

Hey! jsut saw this -
RVF400 NC35 = Worth alot more then the NC30 as they are newer styling but thats about it... slightly easier rider position then NC30, slightly down on HP, but the NC35 has flatslide carbs which although are 1mm smaller in diameter and give slightly less top end, they make up for a shitload of midrange, along with the NC35 exhaust pipes... Lower compression, and a lower 1st gear then the NC30, generally speaking the NC35 is a MUCH nicer bike for punting around to work and weekend rides etc!.. If you wanted to go full race however the NC30 is the weapon of choice, and they are only worth around half as much! General idea of pricing = NC30 $2500-$4000(minter), NC35 $3500(dog)-$8000(i know, expensive just for a 400!!!) Another upside of the NC35(RVF) is it has the USD forks.

either way the little VFR400's are neat bikes and in street use indestructable imho, oh also the RVF400 has a 17" rear wheel not 18" so it just means you can get all the range of tyres pretty much with 150/60/17 as opposed to 150/60/18 (although you can get GPR70SP's and BT090's which are pretty much the only 2 tyres you should be choosing from on these!) Take it easy dude and whatever he gets he is more then welcome to bring around and gimmie a look! If he does get one make sure he does, i love seeing them and what tricks are done to them - i can also take the 180kmph restrictor (thats the only one in all the VFR/.RVFs) out for him too.

Thanks for the reply KK.

If he does get it I'll try and talk him into a trip up. Might have to in order to collect one given most are in Auck anyway. Good excuse for me to take a trip up anyway ;)

There are a few VFR's and RVF's on trademe atm. All look pretty nice actually. I'm really keen on getting one when I get my full in february. Should be able to sell my current bike, buy a VFR and have atleast a grand or so left over. Just hope I can get a minter, for around $4k.

The trademe one in Lower Hutt (Gracefields) has been sold. we rang up yesterday since it's less than a k from where I live. Another Red Baron have on bikepoint.co.nz has also been sold.

If we can't get an rvf/vfr then might look at a sv650.

Hi all

The only prob some 30/35 owners may encounter is a blown regulator/rectifier. I just replaced mine with a 2nd hand chunky Yamaha one once has been going strong for years now :)

Things I love about my NC30.
Great sounding and unique engine (ditch the factory pipe though which makes bike sound like a giant sewing machine)
All round its pretty tough :)
retro styling :)

Cons
can be difficult to work on engine cos of V4 config.
18inch rear wheel :S

Kwaka-Kid

ill agree with that, and even better then the yamaha one is the 1986ish Honda VF750/1000 Reg/rec, supposedly the best ever, also has control wire you have to wire to a positive line after the ignition./

Just been finding out about NC30/35s. You can get these awesome fairings for the RVF

VERY nice! However, I think you failed to mention the pick of them all!

But no-one else is allowed to do this replica in NZ, because I want to (when I get my full or find a good deal! Of course if someone else feels the urge to pay for it I'd be more than willing. :)

There is the race VFR on Trademe which looks like not a bad deal in Wellington, depends if you are wanting to race it or not I suppose? And the actual condition/km's on it.

Very awesome. The lights look really good on it

And screw you. I'll do it anyway :bleh: I wanted to do a decent job too it though. Recondition the engine, anodise the frame, Nitrous, matt black fairings, etc. Probebly going to be in the garage half the time untill I get the money for the next part. I saw the site first anyway

And I saw that VFR on trademe. I saw 'TYGA bodykit' and decided to search it up, and found this site :niceone:

Only problem is once I've spent all this time slowly getting each part with my limited funds and making an awesome bike, I'm gonna be bored of its power and want to get a 600 and do the same, unless you can fit a 600 engine in it... maybe a turbo...

http://www.motorcyclesnz.co.nz/dismant/honrvf400nc35.jpg

This is from buckets and bits. Wonder how much it would be for the complete bike without fairings?
