First road bike

i have been looking for a bike and decided that i wanted to get a cbr or fzr 250. My dad was ok with it... at first, then he talks to a bike mechanic and he tells him that the sport style bikes are uncomfortable for commuting and are harder to handle. So now im not allowed to have what i want. (my money by the way) so now im thinking hes probly gana line me up on a gn250, no offence to anyone i just dont like to cruiser look. but i showed him the vtr's and the hornets and i think he'll be happy with one of them. so im bringing myself to like the look of the naked bikes, becoz i prefer faired. i am only 5'5 and my only doubt is that they may be to big.. i have read they are a full sized bike. i would like some feedbak on these 2 bikes espeacially the hornt and what prices youd expect to pay.

You could look at the bandits too...they are quite small.

The Hornet is a great naked bike, easy to handle, reliable and has a bit of go-gas as well. Only prob is it is in the higher end of the 250 market .. around $5000, but once you try one out - odds are, you'll like it (or usually..love it! :love: )

Large 180 tyre on the back makes it a breeze to handle (and for those other jokers who keep bringing up my superman impressions on Twilight Rd, it is the rider at fault and not the bike! :whocares: :laugh: )

Uses parts from the CBR600 range - even uses a detuned CBR250 engine. Also, it's the kind of bike that makes you want to ride and ride - very comfortable and easy on the eyes.

Maintenance is a doddle, you'll end up wanting to hug it and kiss it and talk to it and buy it bling and ride it and give it the best gas and find other Hornet riders and ... you get the general idea! :o :innocent: :sunny:

thanks gijoe, i was expecting a post from you. is it possible to tune em up abit.. just out of curiosity becoz as they are now wont be experienced enuf to use there full potential.

I wouldn't call the CBR uncomfortable for commuting. Use mine as often as I can for going to work (sold my last car that wasn't a project and now down to the bike). Guess it depends what you're used to, personally I dont find it to be uncomfortable

I just did the toy run, leaving west auckland this morning, back for around 3. Basically solid riding on the CBR... was getting a bit sore towards the end, but actually less sore and tired then i used to get on my Bandit, specially once i got my seating right.

I'm 6'2, and hadn't rode in 2 months prior so i'm gonna say the CBR isn't a bad bike for commuting/distance. Nicer then my Bandit was.

is the manevouability of the cbr/fzr any different from the hornet/vtr? thats the other influencin factor

I can only compare to my Bandit... and there is no comparison... Bandit was a good bike but my god the CBR is nice.

you might find the higher wider bars on the hornet and vtr give you better manouverability in the traffic over the cbr/fzr types

lucky for me i will never be in heavy traffic. west coasters dont know the meaning of the phrase

I'm on a GT250R and rode to Cambridge for the Toy Run, then to Hamilton and then back to Auckland. 300km+ round trip and no issues with the bum :) I have to commute everyday through Auckland traffic and have no issues with its agility.

Ride various bikes and get what fits you best.
