Project Hope Foundation Run & BBQ
Wellington to Kapiti
12 May 2007
Hi everyone
Project Hope Foundation is organising a bike ride from Wellington to Kapiti on 12 May 2007 with two stops on the way: one in Porirua and one in Kapiti at Otaihanga Domain for a bbq.
This ride is to promote awareness of the Project Hope Foundation. We are a non-profit organisation that aims to reduce preventable deaths e.g. people who take their own lives.
We are also fundraising to open a Porirua/Wellington branch.
Saturday 12 May 2007
10:00am: Meet at Frank Kitts Park Wellington. Registration dontation for all riders (and sign a disclaimer)
10:00-11:30am: The Road Captain will give instructions.
This rally is been helped by the Plimmerton Motorcycle Club whose members will distribute flyers around Wellington.
Anyone and everyone is more than welcome to join in. It doesn't matter what you ride so long as you enjoy it.
I will be back and forth to answer any questions you may have. Have an awesone day!

Sounds great!
Could you please post some more info on the organisation or direct me to where I can read about them. No offense intended, but I'd like to check them out before I commit to supporting them.

I don't know if this is allowed but if people want the flyer that aren't wgtn please pm your address or go to www.projecthope.biz and email your addy I will happy to mail these out and those that live around wgtn kapiti we are based at 90 Kapiti Rd I want the word as we are opening a branch in Porirua/wellington we are going to open throughout NZ but we have to fundraise to do so our mission statment isNZOP800 saving 800 kiwi lifes per year through preventable deaths we teach emontial good health and teach how to come out of the "high risk zone" we also help those that are left behind by those who have taken their life as we all go through hell when they do.. My Brother took his Life in Novemeber 28th 2007 this rally is in memory of him and all those that have taken their lifes the more people I meet and talk about this the more I want to do it before my brother took his life he tried to take his life in a car he was a harley boy and I am so pleased he didn't have his bike because it would of been a mess, I know that there are people on bikes/cars that try and I want people to know that no matter what you ride/drive people care. My brother once told me the best thing he loved to do was jump on his bike on a nice day and go for a ride he felt as though he was free.
I understand depression as I have suffered it to the point of a breakdown 6 years ago I understand the mental side of taking your life as I was close to it twice I understand the felling of being left behind and dealing with the mess.
we at Project Hope Foundation what to teach as many people as we can there is life out there on the flyer we have
RIDE FOR HOPE
CHOOSE LIFE
as a heading
hope this is a better explaination on the why we are doing this the founder of Project Hope son took his life so everyone that works with Project Hope understands

RIDE FOR HOPE
The flyer is where and when
explaination of ride
In memory of those that have taken their lifes awareness that Project Hope Foundation is open where there is life there is hope hence ride for hope
Project Hope Foundation teaches emontial good health and making people aware that suicide is not the final answer that we are here to help.
the ride is also in memory of my brother who took his life in november last year as he was a harley boy and his best mate rode a jap bike this ride is open to all bike riders as suicide depression.
putting an explaination on the flyer would of been to much
thank you for your comment I hope this helps I will also try and put as much info on here as possible if you would like to know what Project hope Foundation is about please visit www.projecthope.biz
Thanks

When I was 20, many years ago (well actually 1990), I was on the back on my mates RZ350 sitting at the lights. An HQ took the corner ahead of us, overcooked it and went down the side of our bike. My friend got his leg in intime but of course when you're on the back your knees are out further. The car bumper crashed into my shin and hurled me off the back. To add insult to injury, the rear tyre of the HQ whacked my helmet.
I was rushed to hospital and was in there for a while. I had to have my leg all bolted together with a rod and screws. It was a tricky operation, and at one point, an amputation was considered. Anyway, they took some bone out of my right hip (I have a scar and a hollow bit there now) and put it into my shin to save my leg.
I was on crutches for about 12 months. My right leg is now an inch or 2 shorter than my left.
So, I have a wee issue about pillioning now
Ouch! Message received and understood :nods:

Well the weather came out in the end, not half a bad ride
mostly harleys and cruisers there but a nice KB showing.
Guy really knew what he was talking about and learned alot, would never have guessed there were more suicides in NZ than road deaths.
If by all of us turning up, donating money, promoting the caused help save just one life then really it was all worth it

Thank you to everyone that came on this ride it was a great day to see all forms of bikes and cars riding together as one.
everyone that came had a great time and enjoyed the food.
I got left behind at wellington lmao I was stuck with police watching that everyone got out safely by the time we hit Porirua everyone was parked up it looked great,
missed Paraparaumu and went straight to the river and watched you all come in, for me this was the most amazing sight I cried,
My brother who took his life on November and was a HD rider was looking down and was very proud, the most Proudest moment for me was seeing his best friend there with his mates and he rides a Jap bike sorry mate can't remeber the name of it lol I am really bad with remebering names of bikes as there is so many different kinds.
I am trying to load photos now since I am not a computer whiz I will ask the photograher that was there if she can do it for me.
So once again thank you

Guy really knew what he was talking about and learned alot, would never have guessed there were more suicides in NZ than road deaths.
I agree! Can anyone remember the exact numbers for 1973 and 2003? I'd like to see them added to the thread, I think that is a most revealing (and sobering) set of figures.
(see, I knew there'd be a test and that I'd get it wrong)
bauldy
14th May 2007, 06:56
1973 386
2003 513
higher than the road toll in parparaumu since jan there has been 4 alone
in one weekend there were 3 one in kapiti one in paramata one in stokes valley,
these numbers must come down, there have been more but I don't have the stats in front of me
last week one in Ruatoria my Dad lives up there
there a 10 sudden deaths per week in NZ the word suicide can only be used if the person leaves a note.
otherwise it is under sudden death.
