Yeah thanks for that, that's what the wife says too. It hasn't cost that much to get it to this state, mostly just hard work polishing and painting etc. As long as I cover my costs and get anough to buy the next bike to restore I'm happy.

Hi Jen, this one was 91SIQ but it came from up north so probably not your old steed.

Nice bike. I was just looking at it on trade me thinking if it wasnt in south island I would bid on it. Good luck:2thumbsup

Yes I know what you mean, I seem to keep buying North Island bikes myself then have to pay to get them across the ditch. If it was on the same island it's just a day's ride...

yup at $2200 it would go fast

I payed that for my 85 XV750 and it was as is where is(needed rear brake shoes and rear tyre to get on road .... but was worth $3700 onroad condition, then spent $5500 restoring it (included full engine rebuild) and still worth $3700 LMAO the things we spend on the things we love eh

heres a before and after shot of the bike (and yes .... thats Harley davidson strait pipes on it)

Very nice. Yes I know what you mean, my other bike is a stock '82 XV750 and runs the best of all the one's I have owned. If I sell it now I should get $2000 but if I strip it, powder coat, polish chrome etc and rebuild it I'll be lucky to get $3000. It will cost me twice that to do it nice. This bike I have just sold cost me at least $2500 and there are still a few things that could be done on it if you wanted that brand new look. I do enjoy rebuilding them but the wife gives me a hard time every time I sell them for cost!

Too quick, must have been too cheap bugger it. Oh well at least the new owner will ride it. I've listed my other XV now too just to see if that will sell. If it does I'll be looking for a new bike to rebuild...

anyone that has a XV and a problem starter ....... I could only get the small cogs for the starter from Yamaha and not the flywheel which was well worn. after a lot of calls internationally and hassles trying to obtain a flywheel I finally found out that a local yokel one man band business just out of Palmerston North can rebuild the flywheel ....AND..... you dont need to remove all the magnets on it.

I had mine done about 18 months ago and still starts good.

Not sure of his current prices but mine was only $125-00 to rebuild

if youre interested his contact details are:

I like the pic on the tank ...... very fitting as the word Virago apparently means "Warrior Maiden"

Searched the net to find a pic to put on mine .. didnt like any I saw... finally settled on this one on my tank

That's a bargain and worth the coin to get it fixed. These are great motors in every respect except for that bloody starter...

I'm all cleaned out now sorry. I do know of another XV selling in Nelson in the next few weeks. It was listed a few weeks back but never reached reserve. It is a bit ugly at the moment but would clean up to make a very nice bike and has lowish kms which is uncommon for these babies. Here is the previous listing:

The guy selling it has another listing at the moment so ask the question on his other auction.
New bars, powder coat the wheels, polish the cases... mmmmm.

Wow!

Saw the 83 XV today, damn that's a sexy bike!

Although Craig is like a kid outside the candy store without any money - it's pissing down, and he has no wet weather gear... muhaha, I did offer to test the bike out for him, but the look of "die die die!" sort of canned that idea.

Yep Craig has a lovely bike now, but (bugger it) it has suddenly stopped on him. Not what I was expecting, hope it's something simple like an electrical fault. It's difficult doing anything when I'm in Nelson and the bike is in Auckland. Bugger.

just as well you didnt ride the new toy coz the boy has broken it already and is currently crying in a bourbon somewhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At least he canny blame any of the other willing crash test dummies for the demise of his new shiny thing.

I called in yesterday (just before BT I think, I saw him pootle past on his beast as I was leaving) to see if Craig had managed to actually get out and dodge some rain. Suprised to see the bike in the shed - then got the story from his boss.

Mechanics aside, fuck it's a nice looking bike mate, you've done a pearler getting her up to spec!
