As you may know I had an accident where a decent upstanding member of the community decided to turn across in front of me, causing me to take evasive action and consequently running into the side of his car. Notwithstanding the damage to my bike and to his car, there is the matter of infringement notices.
I received mine about 2 weeks later - $150 for "unsafe overtaking manoeuvre. I can cop that I suppose, it's alot better than it could have been. OK so then I get a 'reminder' in the post (the one on the pink paper)... This infringement notice has the same accident details and is addressed to the correct person (details correct so far) ahhh but there's a difference. This notice has the amount owing as only $50! I'm assuming that the officers number is always displayed as SDX138 (officially) and not X138 as on the original notice.

Well, what do you reckon? Do something about it? Pay it? Or what?

In case I missed something,- what did YOU do wrong? Was there a yellow line or summit?

he drove into a car  ahahahha

ring the officer up and ask him if he can do a better price than the discounted one, ask him if thats his final offer?

alternatively, do like Speedie did and ask 'em if a root will suffice.

All healed up good now, thanks (just my pride is still healing)

The situation was in a thread here (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=43138)
I was going to pass on the left of what I thought was a right turning car... he indicated and turned left (at the same time)

Pay the $50 in person, get a receipt that says you have paid the fine for blah......XXX that matches your infringement notice, spend the rest on petrol then slowly and safely ride up here for our party on Friday :blip:

OK that is a bit silly, pay up, get the receipt for the infringement notice and then forget about it......:sunny:

Yeah pay the 50, keep the reciept with all the other paperwork, see what happens. You can play them out for a while if you want. Although sometimes I think its best just to pay the bloody thing in full, and move on.

Was all going to caught, got all the info sorted and a lawyer as i was in south island and case was in north island and then they decided to drop the case which meant i couldnt claim any exspenses back for my lawyer but o well.

At least i was right and won and didnt get the demerits i didnt want.

I wonder if it had anything to do with my boyish good looks, wit and charm? Or the fact that I sat on his knee?

Unless I've mis-interpreted it - like the fact you had a stop or give-way sign in front of you (I didn't read the other thread) - he was in the wrong for crossing the center line without giving way. In that case, why should you have to pay the fine? Another case of cagers getting away with a slap on the wrist - if they're unlucky...

Like they said, pay it keep the receipt

If they give you further grief at a later date:
Step One: But i have paid that infringement number, here is my receipt
Step Two: If they get all shitty and it's gonna end up in court/with penalties applied, just give up and pay it. Either way, it will be much more fun.

Nah no give way sign. I'm not questioning the right or wrong - just the fine.

You know I want to!! And I promise not to be so good next time I'm up there....

Well I don't have boyish good looks to help me. The wit and charm are debateable. But if all it takes is to sit on his knee - now I know I can do that successfully

Or the fact that I sat on his knee?

So you got the discount by threatening not to get off again?
or just by saying you would do it again if he didn't reduce it?
Pay the $50 and keep the receipt and a copy of the infringement notice payment thingie, if they come back pay the rest.
Watch out for the wanker in the car again and if you see him....
well you know what to do.

It happened on his driveway (or entrance to..) so I know where he lives. It is wrong to administer justice outside the law. That is wrong, very wrong.

It may be wrong, but it's so much more direct. It's also faster. Not to mention - it's a whole heap more fun...

Of course it's wrong... What would make you think anyone here sees it otherwise? :innocent:

My bad - my attempt at a little light-hearted humour obviously doesn't sit well with some people. I appologise if there is anyone offended by my last post.

Much less paperwork required as well...
Planning consent? - Nope.
Resource consent? - Nope.
Council permission? - Nope.
Victim impact report? - WHACK! "There you go, pick up your teeth and f-off" "Remember to look twice for bikes, because we hurt you".
