Passed Full Licence Test Today – 13 March 2007

I have just done a quick flick back through some of my key posts since I started riding last year and want to share them with you here and now.

In memory of my mentor, our late Uncle B.

Thank you Bruce though our time together out on the road was but a blink of an eye, you will be in my eyes forever. You will always be my mentor. Before the test today I road to the carpark and spent a quiet moment in reflection. Thank you, words are not enough .

The Learn To Ride and Basic Handling Skills Course April 06

G'day

Joined this site back in Oct 04, and completed my BHS today [27 April 2006], didn't want to rush in to fast - if you know what I mean.

The course here in Petone today was very good and a big thank you to AT, well conducted and professional.

Why did I take so long, well being an Aussie [all flack well received in the best of taste] I never rode a bike in my life and at 53yrs now you could understand why I took my time - had to come across the ditch for starters for some excellent bike riding country.

My longterm goal is to have completely toured the South Island by the time I am 60yrs old, see I keep my head up and look way ahead. Seriously will start out on a GN250 and probably remain in the Valley here for quite a few months before venturing further a field.

The Learners Licence May 2006

Passed the Learners today [10th May 2006]and had my brother in law meet me at Wellington Motor Cycles to get fitted out for all the right protective gear and of course getting the delivered.

From here on in it is concentrate, practise, concentrate, practice, head and eyes up and relax. I am fortunate as I will be a recreation rider with plenty of time to practise in the middle of the day through the week and weekends.

A Newbie’s Training Update – Started May 2006

Sunday Evening [28th May 2006]- completed 400km in Stokes Vegas this last fortnight, and haven't ventured outside the valley yet. My commitment to myself is to do 1000km at least until the end of June, here in the Vegas [probably driving the locals crazy thinking they have somebody casing their street etc etc], but seriously, I have found the last two weeks damn good running here practising each day for an hour or two. Each time I go out and focus on one or two key things and I must say 'being in one with the motorcycle' is slowly taking its shape and I am getting a lot of pleasure [read 'fun'] out of this new found freedom.

The Thread Lead up to: Where Did You Ride and What Did You Practise?

The What A Beautiful Day thread today got some good feedback from around the whole country, reckon it could be worthy of a stickie "This Weekend Where Did You Go"....on a bike that is.

Got the Restricted Licence Today November 2006

BuckBuckNo1's Newbie Training Update is open.

Passed the restricted today and will give thought to my initial progress to the next level and keep the Newbie Training Update running periodically.

First thoughts being 'Don't get ahead of my/yourself', being disciplined and focus on strategies/vigilance and new reaction requirements.

Heads Up and Enjoy [watch this space]

In Memory of My Mentor – Uncle B

I went round to StoneChucker and shared a hug and tears was all that need be said.

Biggles1 spoke to you this morning. Hang in there and stay strong.

God Bless You All in from your rides today.

In memory of Uncle B.

Defensive Driving/Riding Course February – March 2007

I am attending the Defensive Driving course this week and next and as a part of the course I had to gather information by interviews from Experienced and Inexperienced riders covering the first two items listed above.

Thank you Bruce.

Congratulation BuckBuckNo1........

UncleB will be so proud of what you have achieved over these few months.
He will be looking down and smiling and saying well done.

So it is now time to get on the new bike and to learn all over again getting to know the bike and what she can do.

I look forward to seeing the new thread on 'Upgrading and learning to ride the new bike' thread.

Time to now move on from your GN250.

Ride safe.

Congrats Buckbuck, wouldnt have been half surprised if the tester offered you the licence straight up but you insisted on completing the entire test anyway! Looks like you're well on track for completing that south island tour of yours, it seems the little Golf November is the only obstacle in your way now!

That's awesome Guy, well done that!!! And I know I often summon Bruce to come and sit on the back of my bike to 'help' me when I'm nervous. Good work, so now it's off to learn a new bike!

That's a fine achievement Guy. It's tinged with sadness, but isn't it about time you, me, and your brother in law went for a ride on some of "Bruce's" roads now?

So! how was the first ride on the new machine?
I'm sure you would have ridden Golf November Two Five Zero straight home, parked it up, and without even taking the helmet off, left again on the new machine.

Definitely won't be a case of getting sick of Victor Lima Xray. Rather I will be consolidating my riding skills through winter and into next spring, following which I may move to another bike. I am very pleased with my decision to move from the GN250 to the VLX600, I see it as a good transition step.

Hang on to that thought....just put her on the train

Bruce is indeed sorely missed, I had a good wonder through my photo collection last night. Would do anything to go on another Takaka run with him. Boy did he love that Gixxer of his too!
