If you need a whole front end, why not transplant summat off a bike with better front suspension and brakes? Like an R1, CBR1000RR or whatever.
As long as you replace the whole thing (including top/bottom yokes), it should be a (relative) piece of piss.

Thats a good idea guy's ive asked him a question regarding what he can do for me.
what front ends do people put on these and do they have much success?
the bottom yoke is bent anyway so theres no reason why not

Well, it's been a while since I've been on a VTR forum, but I can tell you that people have stuck CBR929, SP1 and R1 front ends on VFRs with not too much drama. The advantage of this is even if you pick summat that's not USD, the chances are it'll be a huge improvement over the stock VTR front end, both brakes and suspension-wise.
The hard parts (if you can really call them that) is fettling some bars so they clear the fairing OK, and fixing the stops so the forks don't turn too far. If the standard bars don't fit, then you'll need to shop around for some of the same diameter that do, OR buy soime adjustable jobs. The steering stops are usually fixed by cutting them off, and tapping some threads to screw in some allen-head bolts with lock nuts: adjust them to the right length then lock'em up.
If you're doing the whole front end, then wheel and brakes aren't an issue, otherwise you may need to make spacers for the axle and maybe the calipers.
It's all do-able, and many of us would give our right testicle for the opportunity.
One other issue I haven't mentioned is certification; it may be a non-issue if you're using other Honda parts, but at worst you may need to pay some Shekel-Dollars to get an inspection done.
EDIT: CBR600 F4i forks also fit 98-2001 VFR800s, so they should fit the VTR1000.

bloody hell boy, didnt the R1 teach you anything... dont make me tell you that ebay is your friend.
p.s. im with him^^^ look for RC51 (VTR SP1-6 in the states), otherwise maybe a CBR1000RR setup.
