View Full Version : My version of "art"

I'm not the most artistic person out there... and in my "boredom time" at work, when I'm not on KB I doodle on paper and over the last 3 years I've done the following 3 pieces of abstract art.

The 3 pieces below may look a little mis-adjusted because they are on A3 and our work scanner only does A4, so I had to play around with resizing, copying, pasting etc... oh well...

Each piece takes about 3-4 months to complete given that each little pattern is unique and is a lot more time consuming than it seems. And given that I only spend about an hour working on it at a time... it just seems to take forever...

I'm currently 3/4 done with the 4th piece which is a peace symbol, half black and half green... the side that is green has a black background and the side that is black has a green background...

I only use ink to do these as it doesn't smudge nearly as bad as anything else I've tried...

Anywho...

Wowwowow! That's amazing and definitely art. Never get rid of those, one day you will have enough to make a gallery show and be able to enter the world of selling art for profit.
Reminder to self, art is cool, must do art again. Used to in the past, installations and sculpture.

Thanks :)

I used to have them hanging next to my desk at my old job, and everyone always wanted copies of them... I've kept the originals and only given away copies because right now I can't bare to give an original away because they take so damn long to do its hard to let go lol

When I finish the 4th one I'll post that up too...

Already thinking of what the next design should be...

The first one was the one that was completely black... then I tried to mix black and red... and then the third one is the one with the two female symbols interlinked... and as mentioned the 4th is a peace symbol...

I was thinking of doing something bike related, but not sure what... maybe just a symbol... like the "S" from Suzuki as an example... but it would be hard to get the edges of the "S" sharp enough...

Edit: Also its not too easy with ink because of the lack of colour available in ballpoint pens... black, blue, red and green...

Oh... I'll just add....

The pics arn't in the order I wrote them about:

First Pic = Two female symbols interlinked (3rd one I did)
Second Pic = Red & Black Patterns (2nd one I did)
Third Pic = Black Patterns only (1st one I ever did)

And thanks guys :)

I don't understand what you mean by that...

But I'm glad you like them... not the norm aye... I've never seen anyone else who does anything similar...

Sharpie is a good black felt-pen, like a Vivid. I love Vivids and Sharpies! One day when I'm rich I'll have one of every colour.

Ahhh... Felt tips are too hard to use when doing this... The paper absurbs it too easily and its hard to get the shading and textured look...

They are very very cool tho - especially when you do enlarge them. Well done!

Sorry - 'Sharpie' is a type of felt pen. Find and buy several - you'll never look back. Much favoured by graphic designers.
There are ultra fine ones to mediums that will do solid black with excellent control.

Architects and draftsmen used pen and ink texture rendering a lot in the pre digital age.
Different to your free flowing-ness - all structure and order - but also expressions in texture to enchant the eye.

And then you get right into it a set of Rotring pens will cost several hundy - but you have them for life ;-)

Nice artwork placidfemme, I appreciate the effort you put in as I doodle abit myself. You should get some prints of these and sell them. (T ME & KB etc ). Put the funds towards a new bike. I did a similar sort of thing way back but instead...... I had a large peice of cardboard with a jig saw pattern on it, and some pens and placed it in the loo at the local club rooms. After about 6 months we laminated it and raffled it and got 200 bucks.

I have. It was a kid I was teaching. I was like ":Oi:You put that away you little shit!". He Didn't. :angry2: So naturally I screwed it up, lit it on fire, he ran, I chased him :chase: , caught him, punched him in the face :bash: and told him to get on with his work. He'd apparently been working on this thing for a couple of months. He well may have been from how much he was crying. :crybaby:

But in reality, your stuff is cool, and the story above is completely fictional.

thanks :) The sizing of the peace symbol is a little off... but I'm getting there...

The next one will be on A4 as opposed to A3. Trying to figure out what I want to try lol

What about a side view of a sportbike or a cruiser bike... without a rider.

A bit more technical to do....... and maybe a bit more time consumming...

You have the four colours to work with..... black, red, green and blue.

Get hold of a picture of the bike....... trace around the shape of the bike and go on from there..........

What ya reckon.?

I like that idea... but I think it will be very hard... Maybe do the bike in black, and the background red or something...

I was thinking something a bit more simple... I'm not sure...

Taking into account that the wheels are black....... and the frame work
you wont want to loose them in amongest the black bike.....
so maybe change the colour of the bike to make it stand out.

Na... It'll have to be a completely black sillouette, given that my pictures are made up of random shapes... it would require far too much detail to break it down and split the colours.

placidfemme
15th March 2007, 14:00
Well heres some logo's...

Not sure what I wanna try... The Yamaha one looks too hard... the Honda one looks fun but without the words "Honda" under the wing thing... but will be a lot of work... The Kawasaki one looks difficult because of how the "K" gets thinner at parts... and the Suzuki one looks the easiest right now...

Colapop
15th March 2007, 17:07
Now that you're using more than two colours and shades you can do the whole landscape thing...? Picassoesque?

Well I've given it some thought... And I decided due to difficulty I will be doing the "S" Suzuki Symbol in Red on a black background as my next piece on A4.

Keep an eye on this thread :) It should only take a month lol

I've just done some searches on Yahoo and Google for "Doodle Art" and didn't find anything similar to what I'm doing... I think thats pretty kewl.. I may be onto something "original" here :)

Booo.
Corporate art is for computers and the disposable stuff I pump out.
IMNSHO If it truly inspires - or you have a comission, ok - otherwise let it flow from the inside or do something Kiwi.

Good idea... I'll have a think about something "kiwi" to do as well...

The thing is with the A4 sized pictures, they won't take as long as the A3... so I can do a few different random ones...

*is still researching what I wanna do, so I'll only be starting the next one next week sometime*
