there are no covered parking bays at our school and the thought of leaving my bike out in the rain, well i don't like it!

Get a tarp, that'll do the job as long as its anchored alright.

Can't you get those bike covers that have like a pull string on them and tighten them up at the bottom?
That'd work I guess

simple, dont take it to school untill you have changed the oil :D
my baby has never set wheel inside and goes fine (better than yours remember?).
the only thing id be concerned with is the wind/it being knocked over and somebody who doesnt like you wrecking it or it being stolen (what school is it again?)

would actually be more concerned with a cover being stolen than the actual bike lol

If you get a bike cover, make sure you get one with heat-proof reinforcing around the mufflers.
If the plastic melts onto your mufflers, you'll never get it off.

lol
i can show you my rjays cover if you want, it was either $45 or $95 think the tag is still on it - will chekc tommorow
problem is, you cant put the cover on if the bike is already wet - it gets the cover dirty and scratches paint
cant put the cover on if the bike is dirty as cover dirty and scratches paint...
these things aint exactly small either folded up into its little bag it would fit into a backpack - its probably just smaller than a ringbinder but its very tall - easily the width of a small backpack (like a full ringbinder and a bit more...)
edit: thats the full size grey white and black office ringbinders - not the small cheap school ones

bollocks my bag is already overfilled, shiteeeeeee......especially with that tiny damn leak on the fuel cap....
Wasp
14th March 2007, 22:38
that fuel leak sure didnt look tiny when i flipped the tank upside down.........
i think a "fix alex's bike" day is in order.....
edit: another thing with the cover is it increases wind resistance - the bike is wearing a jacket, it goes in a straight line from the handle bars to the tail so surface area is increased and acts like a sail
can you tell i havnt used mine in a very long time?

You mean they wont let you take it into the class with you? :shit:
Why don't you get friendly (ok, not THAT friendly) with the caretaker? He might have somewhere you can park it, just explain that you don't like leaving it out in the rain, and in particular, places where people might damage or steal it. Chances are he'll let you park it up somewhere safe (and dry), and it'll mean there is someone keeping an eye on it.
I've taken my bike into town several times (well, my older bikes, never the Aprilia - somethings you just cant trust to other people) and parked it on the curb outside nightclubs. Just a quick word to the bouncers, along the lines of "do you reckon it'll be alright parked there?" Most of them will say "Sweet as, we'll keep an eye on it for you." Same trick might just work with the caretaker at your school, but it is all in the way you approach him.

It's just a 250, you'll only have it for a few years, let it sit in the rain
Make sure you lube your chain regularly (more often for more rain).
Take a towel with you, in a shopping bag. Easier than dicking around with covers for either the bike or the seat.
Give it a wash every weekend to get all the crap that the rain seems to build up.
Other than that, just do the normal maintenance... lube the bits that need lubing etc. It'll survive the rain no worries at all

You can also get bike covers from Supercheep ... all in it's own little bag which is quite compact...when you aren't using it, use it as a pillow ... And yeah, asking the caretaker/groundsman is your best bet for a nice, safe and dry spot for the bike. Remember, manners maketh the person and a please/thank you will get you everywhere! :msn-wink:

Just park it in the principals office, no worries.
On a related topic, what are kb's wise wisdom on parking in windy condtions? Magua had an rg150 (before some tosser stole it) and once the wind blew it over (while we were watching hehe it was funny in a sadistic way!) so how do you park in windy condtions? Any tips or what not?

Centre stand is your friend.
You could also park close to a wall with the stand side against the wall - if the wind blows it, it hits the wall and not the ground! But then again, around the other way - cant fall either way? *now im confused*

ive been wondering that too. i parked mine up against the wall at work [right on the forecourt!] cos the spot i normally park was nothin but wind. the way i park, the wind and bike would have been going the same way, but i still didnt like the idea much.

Hate to say it but the solution is simple - get over it.
Park it in the rain - what's the worst that can happen?

I dont recommend them though. I have one and it leaks like hell on a wet day. Only good for protecting your bike from prying eyes.

Right, that's the cover taken care of, you're getting Doug's old one. I have also seen on KB people advising *never* to leave your bike outside if you can help it. According to the post I recall, they said nothing trashes a bike quicker (he didn't mention trackdays or binning it).
As to where to park it, many people maybe didn't know that the *first* day you took your new bike to school, some lowlife busted a lever off it. The caretaker sounds a good bet ... are you the only biker at Pram?

Oh yeah, forgot to mention - I sprayed waterproofing spray on the inside of the joins! Not that I have had the chance to test it out yet! :o Most of the time, my bikes can handle a little rain - just rush out and toss some bubbles onto it and give it a wash at the same time!

naaaaa. Maintain it (wax it ... whatever...) the rains not a worry. Well not in my experience anyway. But then - I'm the guy that just rides them, puts too many miles on 'em and they keep going and going.
I don't do "show bike"

Whats the problem?
When you wash it , it gets wet.
So just take some bike wash with you. if it looks like it is going to rain give your bike a good squirt before you head off to your lessons.
When you get back your bike is nice and clean!

Especially if someone names Bob picks it up? squeezing it a bit fine here I know, but at least someone will mop up this thread ... never mind, it'll all come out in the wash...

no luck with janitor either....bugger!
only other rider is someone who rides a GN from 1980 and regularly bumps it into everything thing, is rusted to bits and has little paint on the tank, a disaster waiting to happen.
just the thought of leaving it at the mercy of this bastard weather does not appeal
