View Full Version : Chicago issues sticky tickets

Chicago City Council will soon be issuing Pay-and-Display tickets with adhesive backing to them, in an attempt to stop motorcycles being unfairly fined for parking, paying up, but having no way of displaying their permits.

The existing tickets are designed to be laid out on top of the dashboard, behind the windscreen… not a luxury that bikes have.

Bikers will be asked to attach the new sticky tickets to the bike's headlight. Of course, this does not stop the wind blowing the ticket off the bike… or someone stealing it… or simply brushing against it and the ticket becoming dislodged.

Bikes will also be required to be parked ‘perpendicular to the curb at a 90-degree angle’ – in other words, how all sensible bikers park their bikes in bike parking spaces.

Surely in this day and age, it must be easy enough to have a system where you enter your licence plate number in a machine – which traffic wardens can verify by just checking on a hand-held device?

Or, we could just let motorcycles park for free !

After all, you can fit 20 motorcycles in a space big enough for 1 hummer (or 30 bikes if allowing space either end for the peroxide blonde hummer driver to be able to get in and out of her carpark)

I like Chicago. Didn't expect to like it particularly, but I like it A LOT.

Back on topic: I hope nobody tells the local parking peolpe about this idea. It's much better if we just tell them "... but it's impossible to pay-and-display on a bike!" And they can let us keep parking for free.
