Who in Wellington operates motorbike dynamometers, how good are they, and what do they charge?

I've seen one at Motomart. Is that it?

We've got one, Hitcher.

It's a little different to the others in that it's not just a big roller that you wheel the bike onto. Ours has the rear wheel of the bike removed with the chain driving the Dyno, which is essentially a huge pump.

We can simulate real road conditions and vary the loads on the bike. It means we can more accurately determine tuning at different throttle positions and loads.

It also reads differently to other dynos but is more consistant due to zero wheel slippage.

You're more than welcome to come in andf check it out and have a chat to the opperator.

We can plot the power in as small as 50rpm incriments although 500rpm is the best.

I've seen an R1, wailing its head off in 3rd gear and we just increased the load untill the dyno stalled the bike. Try that on a Dynojet.

...it's nice to see someone finally call it a Dynamometer rather than a Dy-no-meter.

The one at Motomart is one of the best in NZ!
Its an "Eddy-Current Rolling road type Dyno" It measures hp at the rear wheel, not the crankshaft. This is a more true representation of actual hp output, so you have something to really boast about to your mates!
Only $95 for a run..
including....
-Air/fuel ratio
-max speed
-H/P
-Torque outputs
All printed on an easy to read graph.
Give them a call.. 04 5895106 or 0800 DUCATI

That right? How much tourque will does it require to stall a 999 at 5000rpm, 3rd gear 75% throttle?

Sorry.... ;)

Why the disparity of readings between the MM and WMCC dyno's ?

Jimbo's was putting out 125hp on the MM, wasn't it about 190hp at WMCC ?

I guess the main point in dynoing is to see if you have improved HP by any adjustments, but an accurate HP figure is still important.

OK. But if Jimbos bike went, (heh heh) and he put it on MMs Dyno again, would it read the same again? I doubt it.

Consistancy is a big factor.

Ask Dynojet how many 15,000 dollar rolling roads they've sold to Nascar teams, then ring International Dynamometers in Petone and see where theirs end up.

A rolling road Dyno, takes a large, heavy drum. Then calculates the top speed its spun to over what time frame to work out the HP. Very crude.

Anyway, it matters not what I think as it's obvious a Dynojet is great value for money.

A Dynapak is just a better tuning tool. But then it'd want to be for over $100K

Yeah... Should be worth it..... :killingme

but seriously (snigger, snort) I do actually know people who carry their dyno slip around with them and whip it out at any sign of interest but it always ends up the same way....

:whocares:

Well not me I guess but then again.... I'm odd....

It all depends on the conditions when the bike is run too.
When we dyno'ed Jimbo's bike we were having problems hooking the dyno up. And it was outside with NO air vents blowing air into the vents!
(performance car/bike show) If you dyno a bike on different dyno's it will always give a different reading, as they will be configued differently.
Either way they are the best way to get max hp and to see how your bike is actually running. What ever kind of dyno u use.
As far as cost goes, When we do dyno work on a bike, we charge $95 for the run, then if you want stuff done to your bike, you just pay for parts/labour (same everywhere im guessing) You only pay once for the dyno. Which means that it doesnt matter how many times its run on the dyno, you only pay $95 ONCE. The only figue that will change will be the amount of labour and if you use any parts. (does that make sense?)What I really mean is that we will fiddle a bit then run it up, then fiddle more and run it again and so on.
Doent matter where you go, both shops are always glad to do it. The girls at WMC are a good bunch, (so long as i get good deals on gixer parts) so either way you will be looked after. :cool2:

Well said, Dorky Spills. Same from us.

The guys at MM are a pretty on to it bunch, so you really can't go wrong either way.

Of course I want it !!!

Top speed won't matter on the Brutale, they'll limited to 250kph anyway.

Either burn it onto a cdrom or just bring in your memory card into work and let me know. My PC can read 6 different memory cards apparently so should have your one covered. Or email the file to me.
