Hey,
I have bought new cush rubbers as part of a complete wheel rebuild ( well, whole bike actually) and have been told of a modification.

What I have not been told, or been able to find out is; Does it work?

So you get a drill and put a hole in the fat part of the elongated triangle of each rubber.
I bought new ones for my bike because under close measurement- they showed differing thicknesses and signs of aging and compression. Thirty years will do that.

I can figure that perhaps drilling a hole in them allows more compression without side deformation hence smoother engagement under decelleration.
But how big (dia) hole should I drill, and will the stresses of having a hole in it affect lifespan to the part?

I am pretty heavy on the throttle out of corners and backing off going in using the big twin torque and not so much the brakes, would this style of riding make this modification warranted, or would the stresses negate the inherent weaknessess caused by drilling.

Ya can tell I'm a fussy bugger eh?
I just want it right first time.:innocent:

I think that it was a 1/2" hole and some people even took every second one out.
I would not go that far.

I will look in to it and get back to you.

Cheers!
Good info and I joined that forum too. I have had discussions with Mr Roper before on MG-Griso forum as he has one of them too.
I am not going to remove every second one but will punch (not drill ) an 8mm hole in each one.
Righto- back in the garage.
I will have her all restored in 3 months and will do a write up and some pics when complete, it will be pretty special- just like me :wari:

Yeah a punch or a type of hole saw would be the only way to go.
A drill just gets all knotted up.
