XF650
16th March 2007, 22:42
Brought home today a 2003 Yamaha DT230 (pic in my profile), an immaculate NZ new example & a real credit to it's previous owner. Already had to clean it though, after a quick fang around some local river tracks tonight.
Only 14 of these were sold (new) in NZ but a few are coming in as Jap imports. They were more popular in Australia.
The DT230 is an electric start, two stroke dual purpose bike (claimed 40hp) that are light, lowish seat (I'm a shortie) & capable of achieving some very respectable speeds on the road. However they are not a race bike (ala YZ) but instead feature a long life motor.
It's my intention to use it on charity trail rides plus keep it road legal for those tougher adventure trips - all part of my mid-life 'enhancement'. Will keep my XF650 for touring, rallies & easier gravel rides.
Thanks to "Motu" for his words of wisdom on the DT230's plus his name often appears in international forums when searching the web for info on these bikes.
