I've only got 200 out of her - I think 225 is the bandits top speed, but with my lard arse on it I think 200 is fast enough for her.
I did 230 once on a GPZ
But we're talking on the odd occassion when the conditions a right - god forbid something unexpected happens - You could die like a bug at those speeds though ah. :dodge:

Going fast, if your bike can do it, is not difficult to do and it does not necessarily kill!

Going fast can contribute to danger not necessarily cause it!

Stupidity is more likely to cause danger or kill, if you were not being "stupid" at all I guess the risks were calculated and nothing went wrong.

If it does go wrong next time they will blame your speed but I think they should check on your level of stupidity at the time.

I like the freedom to make choices but don't forget that the consequences of your actions should be yours and yours alone, not some other poor innocent bastards.

You must have got it all right last time or we wouldn't be discussing the outcome here on KB!

Well done, I hope you get it right "every" time. Cheers John.

At 299kph, by the time the radar warns you of anything....( provided you have time to glance down to notice ), you will be flying past the camera/cop, and only three things can happen ................

1. the cop will say what the f... was that and go back to his sleep.
2. he'll chase you till you can off or he gives up ( not likely to give up ),
3. the camera will flash but cant read the plate because of the speed.

Or worse youll be so busy smiling at the camera/ cop you wont notice the milk tanker pulling out ahead.......Thats how my mate lost his bike.....and is leg.

Gidday Crazy Steve,

I'm a bit late onto this thread but I thought I'd throw my 2 cents in anyway.

I want to mention a friend of mine who bought a GSXR750 when they came out back in the eighties. He was getting into racing and he was fast. We went for a ride on some quiet and decent highways one day. I'm by no means slow but it's the only time I've ever wanted to grab the rider (also a guy!). As I was holding the grab rail and we were doing about 240 I had no choice but to muscle down with every ounce of strength I had. It's the closest I have ever come to falling (no, flying!) off the back of a bike. The same guy met an untimely end a year or so later by splatting himself into the back of a truck driving late at night with no tail lights. Obviously, the truck should not have been on the road. My advice to you is NEVER ASSUME it's always fine to do these things. There is always a risk. Have you ever been out riding at night and met a black cow on the road looking in the same direction as you? Personally, I'd rather do these solid speeds during the day when I can see more.

Here I am. Only 225? :) Either your bike had a problem or the one I was two up on was warmed up a wee bit. I'm fairly sure it was stock. OK, maybe we did closer to 235 (no lower) but we were two up. I had the first GPZ600R that easily rolled up to 225-30 with some throttle to spare. I thought the GSXRs were faster.

Hmmm, you must have a body mass approximating the size of your ego if that's all you got out of a 600. I ASSURE you my one was capable of and PROVED to do much more than 205. Maybe it was my absolutely meticulous run-in procedure and the fact that it was near new that made the difference?....

What year was your bike - a know a guy who has a 1986/7 model with opened air ways and re jetted with a mod can (80hp+ up from 75hp standard), slightly geared up for open road would only do 220 max. The rider was 80kg (not a big guy).
Stock standard the GPZ600R is only rated for 216 max, in perfect manufactures conditions.
You may get more than 205, but I would be surprised if you got as much as you originally stated; 225 - 230, unless you fitted it with nitro or somthin.

Yes, sorry for digressing Crazy Steve. It is a nice mount and I really (REALLY!!) wish I'd had one with the electronics attached the other weekend.

I'm hearing you Smoky. I was probably about the same weight at the time, the bike was stock ('85) and it really was a perfect clear early morning (it was so good it remains one of my most memorable rides!). The bike was at performance temp, the air temp was a bit above freezing and it was very near sea level so there would have been a pretty good dose of oxygen getting in. I was pleasantly surprised but not wringing it (that probably helped keep it lean and fast to).
