The sky is blue.there are light fluffy clouds in the sky and its warm.
The perfect day for a bike ride :Punk:
After a quick phone call to baby bikies mum Me and my boy set off for a quick ride at 7.00 this morning.
IT was totally glorious. The whale was humming almost as if it was enjoying itself, BB was enjoying the scenery and dad was in heaven focussed on my favourite road. I don't know what it was but all the corners up old north road just seemed to fall into place. No dramas ,no mad cage drivers. The sound of a big multi cylinder bike bounced back at us as we went down through the cutting. Looping back round onto SH16 we felt like we were flying over clouds when we cut through some early morning mist.
Stopping for breakfast at mcd's BB gave his ol man a hug and said 'It was really good fun daddy" .
Dropping the lad at school was cool-all the lil school boys going oooohh ahhh when he hopped off the back-No Idea its a 20 year old pile of cakkk
Of course BB got asked if his daddy is a bikie -and was he scared ?
Starting out on my normal 45 minute grind in rush hour traffic to work the first hint of depression set in at the thought of sitting goin nowhere.
Hmm but Im at the front of that little 3 car chain, Well how nice -that guy just left plenty of room for me to scoot by. --woow the center of the road is 3m wide and all the cars are crawling along -lets just scoot up here.
The grin has returned. Stuff the time lets loop around this back road on the way to work--its sorta going in the right direction.
Another 4 km of windy roads at semi civilised speeds and I loop back onto the northern crawlway (motorway) at the height of rush hour.
Does the whale have a car repulsor fitted? -Every cage just moves over and lets me buzz through.
Arriving at work "late" I thought -"aww bugger it who cares"
But hang on --Im 5 minutes early.
GODDANG it life is great innit ????
Now I might just go out and polish the old beast

When the sun's shining, the road's dry and the breeze is not too chilly, the morning ride to work is the highlight of my day.
Which says something either about biking or about my day...

pardon my ignorance here frosty but just exactly what type of bike is the "whale", glad you had an inspirational ride, I think I'll just commute down to buy some milk on my bike, ( it's only 20kms away), just to reassure myself I haven't got one foot in the grave yet. cheers L

Ohh sorry -The whale is a very tired Kwakka GTR1000
Thats a shaft drive 4 with like a goldwing type fairing and weighs in at about 450kg wet.
With the wind behind it on a good day It JUST manages 165km/h
It lost its exhaust collector box ages ago. The tyres are from WW2 but I bought it pretty cheap and it was a great bike to keep me riding inside the range of sanity.
It 3/4 doesn't belong to me so Im avoiding riding it But on a day like today --what can I say.

To a half awake car driver your bike looks, in a rear view mirror, just like a cop bike. Naturally they move over. I notice the GS1100GK, in spite of it being a dark browny purple colour. has the same effect. Dunno what thought processes (if any) the cage drivers use (thinks "mufti bike cop? move over!")
but who cares.

It doesn't look half as bad as you make it sound frosty, I went and checked out the reviews on them on the net and they seem to have a pretty good reputation. Mind you a site dedicated to them would say that wouldn't it!, just got back from my little jaunt, got the milk etc, realised I'd left the back door open and the shed door too! Must have been too keen to get out eh!

Yea hey dont get me wrong I've had two of them as well as a number of XJ900's, For a tourer they do go round corners rather well.
They seem to suit a smooth well thought out aproach to corners -Very noticable when I rode unknown roads The whale felt horrible but on a road I know well it's very smooth.
That said The whale was -well worn out. Its a 1986 bike and shows it it the suspension, brakes and general loosness. I could have tightened it up with a few bolt on parts and some parts being serviced but that defeated the point. I wanted a bike that would slow me down -My self control when Im with a bunch of other bikers is not the best.
