Yes we are all a bit sombre at the moment but some perspective please. We are a vulnerable road user with all the risks that go with that. Whether we go into a corner at 80/100/120 if there is oil/diesel on the road, same basic result. Hell I dont want to get paranoid that there is oil on the road everytime I ride or I may as well hang my leathers up!!!!

We could wrap ourselves up in cotton wool, or live life and enjoy the freedom and exhileration that a bike offers. Some people ride faster, others slower but we roll the dice every ride and it takes all sorts to make the world go round.

My two cents worth :Punk:

I think it's time that farmers realised that they have to take more responsibility for their stock. Roads are for motorised vehicles, and stock needs to be kept at least one paddock away at all times.

Uh huh...., then the purpose of having the paddock there would be....? i guess this comes down to the new noise laws?

Bugger that mate.

All good for you young hotshots with big cahoonas, but us oldies get reality checks on roads like that.:shit:

Mind you, spose it could be ok if we tootled over it.
But why eh..........:scooter::blink::shit:

its got lots of cool bits in it!, and in a lot of places nice slow twisty stuff :scooter: as well and LOTS of elevation change, i'd loove a track that had good uphill and downhill bits :wari:

CHECK IT OUT AT 6min 54sec, worth loading the whole video for :wari:

My two cents worth :Punk:Not quite what we are meening, there is a difference in riding fast when the roads are good for it but there are roads we dont no and are deemed dificult so we adjust our speed to suit.
The track is whare we push our limits cos there aint anything comeing the other way. Some smaller country roads are very technical and it could be on that tight corner that we tend to drift out on and there happens to be a car coming or worse a truck cutting the corner. Ride well and ride safe not much else to be said realy.

You got that right.

So what has been going on since I stopped riding with this group?

You have a Mentor in your group. He should be controlling the speed you ride at. And George should be a good influence. I know Tony can’t cos he was born in to speed.

I don’t know ….. we just can’t trust you lot. :dodge:

Come on lighten the thread. We all know the risk and the rule is “ you ride at your own speed” As long as there is a sweeper or everyone know where the ride is going and no one worries about getting lost there is no need to ride outside your comfort zone. I don’t want to ride at a slow pace, nor do I want to ride at warp speed. So I will ride at my own pace and if I bin it, it is not your fault

I feel the pain and it is important to think about this but we are big people and it is up to each one of us to take responsibility for our own safety. I say this in a nice none threatening way.

What you guys are doing with the track days is commendable - that's where you should be getting your rocks off.

You guys have been lucky so far. It's time to exercise a little responsibility.
It would be naive to think otherwise.

Yeah wise words in my humble view. Try a few more track days - so much fun and so much faster than you'll ever go safely on the road you won't want to look back. Fun as it is to meet up with youse fellas for weekend rides, I'm happy to take is slow & keep the real speed for the track. Shit, did I just write that crap? I mean slow on the straight bits & fast on the bendy bits!:2thumbsup

Dooly, have fun this Friday at Taupo you lucky bugger. My Friday is completely fucked but I'm holding out a glimmer of hope for Kiwi Trackdays on Sunday. Can't wait to try out the new suspension settings!!:ride:

Meanwhile keep it shiny side up people, one of my mates in the Haumoana FB was first on the scene at the crash & he was pretty messed up about it yesterday so must have been pretty ugly coz we get used to working on busted bodies.

Nothings going on really. Just been riding both days these last weekends, been great.

I must admit I've been 'getting into it' lately and tend to moreso when leading which I've done the last few weeks.
Don't let me lead!!!
And yes there have been 'hairy' moments:lol: but in all honesty, not as many as I would of thought.
But I also have been reflecting on it this week so dunno.......

I guess it will sort itself out.
K Si Ra......
Lets enjoy our group and ride on.

George had it sussed on Sat, he dropped back and went at his own pace, which is totally cool.

Off to the trackday Friday, should be good, lose my Taupo virginity:lol:

On a more sombre note, been talking to DR girl tonight. Most of you dont know her, cool lady.
Sounds like she's in hospital for a while, broken leg, wrist, plates, rods etc etc , all the nasty shit.

Oh boy. Am I hearing that it’s time for all sport and large tourer bike owners to trade down to GN250’s? :scooter: If we only bought our 750cc+ bikes so that we could show off the big number in order to stroke our ego’s... then perhaps one of us could start selling 1000R stickers on trade me... to stick on our new GN’s. Hmm I’m sure that even the handful of superbike owning cops :Police: would line up for their new lil commuters.
Just trying to remember when the last time was when someone said ‘now that was a great ride’ after idling around HB back roads.... I’ll get back to ya’s all on that... maybe. :third:

Yep got it in one.

George has the right attitude and good on him. Good example G.

Have a blast at the track Tony. It is a great track.

Pass on our regards to DR Girl. Would it help if we have a whip around and send some fruit, flowers or something?????? Or is she tuff and that would embarrass her? I don’t know, I have never meet her but she has ridden with this group right? So could it help for her to know people care? Sounds like a lota healing needs to happen….

You will discover a fantastic new world.

Actually, my mistake... I'm not keen on 'racing' because I simply cannot afford to buy the bike and the gear etc, let alone the cost of using a track... not to mention that I wouldn't have much chance of winning, not with my limited 'experience'.

However, I would like to participate in a training day event. Learn myself some skills.

Then get yrself to Taupo proto. All the trackdays have lines riders who will show you the ropes & everyone's full of good advice!

Just ride wot u brung, all you'll need is a WOF, leathers, boots, gloves, helmet, $100 & some time & you've got the bike & the willingness so you'll find the rest. Sick days rule!:msn-wink:

W went to put his foot down to hold the bike up as he parked it and found he was sitting over the mouth of a culvert. He stepped off the bike, after Donna did a runner from the pillion seat, and it rolled on its side then on to it's seat. As I understand it. I wasn’t there.

But it was nice of Tart to remind us of this little event. I will pass it on to W when next I see him.

It can rain this week end. I gota pull the front forks off the gixxer and replace one oil seal. She be leaking. So a wet day will inspire me to do it. Just been for a fang with W up the goat track and it is a bit soft in the front. And da oil on the brakes is not nice. Want to save the pads as they are new from the track day.

Sorry Tart. I was distracted by the place I had come from and the place I was going to. Not a good thing when riding but I was not in a hurry so I was thinking about what was and what could/should be. Forgive me? You should flash your lights or somthin and I would notice.

What a great day. Weather was overcast, just right.

Had 3 Triumphs, 2 Ducatis, including a 1098S in our garage. Was a no Jappa zone.
( More a coincedence really..)

Ran the Speed Triple in 3 sessions and the Ducati in one, mainly to test if the fault was fixed.
It is.

First time ever I've scraped my boots on the ground cornering, gave me a fright first time, but became regular as the day wore on.
First time ever found the rev limiter on the Speedy.

Felt really in sync with the Speedy, dunno what speed I was pulling but it was over 9000 down the straight in 5th.
The lack of a fairing on it did'nt seem to matter on that track with only being 1 long staright
Passed a few Gixxers.:2thumbsup
Got passed by Gixxers too.:2thumbsup
Had no near misses, no close calls, all was well.
Fitted top hi perf brake pads this week, halved my braking distance from the old pads.
Highly recommend EBC HH pads.
Rear end started to lift under braking, wound the pre load out and it changed the whole bike, awesome.

What a great track, great organisation, good grip, I'll be back.

Think there were a few bins, only saw a guy go off in front of me, and a chick in my group looking sad holding her bike up on a bend.

Rob said there were a few including yet another R1 biting the dust bad:lol:
Rob was quick with advice on what it costs to repair those!:2thumbsup

The neatest experience of the day was on the hairpin at the back of the track leading onto the main straight.
You know how when both bikes are going about the same speed whether its 100 or 200 kphs etc, how everything is in slow motion between the 2 of you?

I was leant right over starting to exit the hairpin, and I hear a noise beside me......look to my right and a godanged motard drew level, sideways, foot out like speedway and slid the back end past me and took off.
It was in slow mo time, I had time to look, and think......'fuck, thats so cool'.
I blitzed him on the straight but it was one of those real neat things that you had to be there eh.........:done:

Was a good day at Taupo. Even got sunburned. Got to say there is a lot of ladies doing track days. Was very hard to keep an eye on what was going on out on the track.
Tony did very well today and it wont be long before he is in the fast group.:sweatdrop

I wonder if you're talking about my mate Sandra? Rides a blade real fast but tends to fall off. Was she the CBR that came acropper? See attached photo, titled "decent" because a couple of others she sent me are a bit more personal!

Don't even need to spend very much to get better protection. I found a perfectly good Teknic back protector on Trademe for $60. Fits fine under the leathers (even with a built-in hump). A bit hot when you're standing around but you don't notice it when you're riding, until you come off!:2thumbsup

A guy I know reckons neck protection is the most important thing. Reckons it will save you permanent paralysis that you get from your head snapping sideways in an off, he should know because thats what happened to him.:buggerd: I reckon those collars are a bit impractical still but ...... :soon:

I agree that you dont have to spend to much. Some of us already use armour, and i just thought it would be a good idea for those that dont to look at the option when purchasing safety gear.

Plus of course live superbikes from 1.30 tommorrow too........

But not ruling it out completely, but not looking good.

Definately going to Palmy next weekend, dunno what day, if anyone's up for a ride.

Whats the story for rides this weekend?

I'm out for tommorrow, but Sunday looks good.

I'm thinking of doing the Triumph RAT ride Sunday, as I've missed the last few.
We meet at Breakers Napier, for brekky about 9.30-10ish then head off for a decent ride, usually till late arvo-ish.
Anyone's welcome, don't have to have a Trumpy, and the more the merrier as the last few I've been on there's only been a few.
So thats an option if you're interested.

I got news.
Word is they have restricted the power in 4th, 5th, and 6th gear to %85 after 12000rpm just so the Gixer can keep up. It is showing up on the dynocharts in the states.

pfft, can fix that easily enough, take the gear sensor and jump a few wires to confuddle the ECU into thinking it's in 3rd gear when its in 4th 5th and 6th so it remains at full noise over 12000rpm  well that works for the older bikes anyways

The gixxers will stil keep up either way though :msn-wink:

, that plunging dollar is certainly it's toll on the bank account.

However it is the very thing that is keeping us in business, as we rely on exports. I hate to think what fuel will cost in a few months. I recon the NZ $$ is going to drop to $0.46cnt by Dec. :gob:

You will see a lot of near new bikes on Trademe and other places, soon, cheap. People will have to drop them fast to keep the payment up on their homes and feed their families. Bike are great but I recon we will see a big move away from toys to basic living costs. I hope I am wrong but from where I sit I can see the change coming. If car rego goes up to $380 what are bikes going to cost???????
So if you have the cash, wait for another 6 months and you will save a lot of it as you bail someone out of their repayment binds.

Or I could be totally wrong

schado
7th March 2009, 08:39
Opps, sorry about the shouting. Bit of virtual glue-ear maybe.

As for economics... one might actually expect more secondhand commuters and scooters being saught after in order to reduce fuel costs (valid saving or not) and boys being boys, the competetive streak will ensure that the sportbike and big cc bike market stays above water.

Big cars will become cheap as chips because they cost too much to run. Sporty cars will become even more less attractive due to police crackdowns on boyracer cars (ie: mags = boyracer).

So, who will be laughing at my Corolla-sized topbox then? ;)

But none of the above matters - this does...
