View Full Version : Buggered threads:
crack

I had to install some new float valves in my carbs on my old CB 750/4.
Whoever was messing about with the carbs prior to me had bodged the threads on all of them to some degree.
I looked at installing heli coils, but at a cost of $86.00, for 8 helicoils???
thinking again was an option I followed.
My neighbor ( an old english bike restorer) told me to use a national coarse, or Whitworth thread 3/16 of an inch.
It cost me $2.50 for twelve Allan head cap screws 3/16 x an inch.
I did not even have to drill out the old threads, just straight into it with the 3/16th tap.
The locating dowls I had to drill out slightly, and I made paper gaskets.
It took me a couple of hours, but I ended up with a perfect job, and a coarse thread system that will last.
Just thought I would pass it on.
Also I am looking for a disk and rotor/caliper for the old CB, and a oil tank side cover for a F2.
Any info is appreciated.

Hey Crack,
Cheers for the info. I have an oil tank side cover for an F2 I won't be using, I'll post up a picture tonight - its not the best in the world but should do the trick.
Cheers

John Thanks heaps, I will make it work, better than 63Euro from Holland.
I have a Brand New Green, still in factory wrapper, for the K series I think, with the hole in the top for the filler cap, its yours if you want it.
Sorry about the PMs but I have tried and don't know if it is finger trouble, or a glitch in the system, I asked Joni about it, but I think she missed it.
I have the original exhausts, and I am wanting a caliper, disk, & mount for the other side on the front.
Will Try to PM( Pvt Mail) you my ph contact.

Ah no worries, I'll be running without the side cover for the moment. I'm getting pretty handy at bending and cutting ally at the moment so thinking of making and braizing myself a new oil tank one day, might be a bit more than I can chew but won't hurt to have a go.
Cheers
