Ive just brought a cbr250rr a couple of weeks ago. Apperently it was just serviced as I brought it from a dearler and it was a new import. I went to check the oil level and i found that it doesnt have a sight glass or a dip stick. all of my previous bikes have had a sight glass so i presumed that was a common part on all bikes. could anyone shed some light on how im meant to keep the oil level full. Ive asked a person at a bike shop in wellington about this and even they didnt know.
thanks.

I thought they had a dipstick?? Unscrew the oil cap on the top of the clutch casing on the right (as you sit on the bike), and if I remember rightly, it's attached to that.

Don't forget to check the bike while it's upright (not on the kick stand) and level, and not run for a bit, else it won't be a good/true reading

Some (older, usualy) bikes have neither. Instead, there is a bolt somewhere near the lower-centre on the flat casing where you would expect a sightglass. With the bike upright and level, undo this bolt and if oil dribbles out, it's full. If not, then top-up as reqd.

hay, in some manuals they reckamend to warm the motor, then shut it off and wait a couple of minutes then check oil level, but oneway i'll do is get an owners manual for your bike, they are cheap and are well worth it,

thanks for answering so quik guys.
yea bug theres no dipstick on that i just checked again. there is no oil fill bolt on the casing either the only bolt is one near the top of the clutch casing but this will be to high for a oil fill level. this bike is a `90 my old `87 vt250 and `89 gsxr 250 both had sight glasses even my `94 kdx250 had one. just a bit puzzled. are you able to find manuals on the internet as im struggling to find one and aperently the honda dealer in the hutt said that because it is a old import i wont be able to buy a maunal anywhere.

Have a look on the underside of your oil filler cap. if it has a 3mm ish hole in it, that is where the dip stick used to be, and some numpty has broken/lost it.

Another thought, from memory, my 90' VFR750 had an oil filler cap on the top of the case, and down near the bottom rear of the case it had a small screwin dip stick.
