View Full Version : Help: Kerry From TSS

James Deuce
22nd March 2007, 09:04
Lost everything in a fire this week. Managed to save his Wife and Kids and both his bikes, but that is it.

He doesn't frequent KB so we can safely talk amongst ourselves here.

I'd like to take up a collection to help him out.

PM me to discuss transactions, but I would really prefer cash to keep it under the radar, so to speak.

He's helped 100s of motorcyclists in Wellington out over the years, so now is our time to give it all back.

The box is gone to prevent Kerry embarrassment.

Direct donations to Stew and do it quietly.

That is sad news to hear he lost everything.

Was he insured?

What furniture does he urgently require....... beds, linen, Clothing (for him/wife/kids) etc etc....

How long before he and his family get back into their home?

I ask this as my neighbours house burnt down a number of years ago....
Just the shell of the house left plus the uninsured lefthand drive Transam car that I pulled out of the garage. They stayed in a local motel, paid for by their insurance company for months. House revamped and new stuff was brought in.

But they had clothes etc donated to them until they could go and buy new stuff.

James Deuce
22nd March 2007, 10:01
I'm just about to call and ask the clothes question.

He is insured.

Cheers crashe

Find a box dude - I'll add some girly toys any day, hopefully a few clothes for the little 'un as well. I'll see if I can find room to bring on them Thu night ride.

Just been to TSS to arrange for a brilliantly priced new Pirelli Diablo to be fitted this saturday morning. I'm going to get in behind this one, PM sent to Jim2.

Sounds like they are the proud owners of one very special pooch! Man's best friend saved the day by the sound of it.

OK... so the obvious questions - what size is HE? And what does he need?

Joni
22nd March 2007, 14:57
Dunno... never met the man!
Maybe it would be better if Jim found out.

Just remember guys, they lost everything.... I went to Farmers and bought his little girls panties... I know it sounds silly... but these are things you need!

I reckon if a few of us just gave a few nice things, then they would have a nice little "collection" again to get them on the road!

Macktheknife
22nd March 2007, 15:20
There will be a collection tonight at the ATNR, of anything people wish to contribute, any cash will probably go towards vouchers for warehouse and farmers type places unless we are notified other things are needed, Jim?
KBers are really good at helping each other out, let's make this one a goodie eh?

James Deuce
22nd March 2007, 15:22
Kerry's been sorted for the interim future by a variety of Motorcycle Parts & Accessories distributors.

We've probably got enough stuff to get them through, remember they are living in a motel (good old Insurance) for the foreseeable future.

Thank you everyone for your concern and help.

Stew is sponsoring a Sausage Sizzle on Saturday, with donations to be collected for a Sausage (it all helps), and Maximusdemeritus is donning an apron (another helper or two would be good).

I'm off to update the event calendar!

Warehouse and Farmers vouchers are perfect! No items from you guys, just convert the cash into vouchers and send them down.

Send a card down with it too.

Well after a little runnig around, a fairly sturdy box is ready to go to Jim this arvo...

I am amazed at how generous people can be... I asked a friend of mine if she could help (she has 2 girls the same age etc.), she was amazing, did not question it, just said "yup, come get it tomorrow morning"...:sunny:

Oh shit just found this info. Shocking news. The title doesn't mean much people. It doesn't reflect the plight he is in and needs help. Maybe expand it a bit hey, something like "Give to help Kerry from TSS"
I'm heading to TSS straightaway to give drop Kerry some $, no time to get vouchers today and urgency to replace stuff must be hard. It can be uncomfortable with charity donations for the giver and receiver sometimes, how he reacting?

If you read the thread, I think you'll see that dropping in with $$ is not such a hot idea. Maybe slip it to Stew and let him deal with it? Yes, it's nice to be recognised for your gift but it sounds like Kerry is uncomfortable about it.

Hi All.
I haven't been on the site lately so thanks for the heads up Mal. Kerry is a top geezer working for a bike shop that goes the extra mile for dodgy bastards like us. My kids are donating pocket money so I better see what I can do too. Bloody kids.

23rd March 2007, 19:32
Kerry said they have received plenty of Kids clothes. My Girls are putting together a toy hamper and stuff. I think they will be swamped with kids toys but hey, in the eyes of two little kids who just lost all their prized possessions, there is no such thing as too many toys!
Kerry was stoked to hear others are rallying around to help.

Any excess stuff that Kerry and his family don't want will be donated to the Salvation Army in the name of TSS Motorcycles, OK?

We'll let Kerry and his family grab the stuff that suits them best, and then the remainder will be donated, so it's all good people. Everyone wins :)

Dafe, you're right, it does seem to work out that way, but for those of them still with us, it's part of what makes them the best people.

Thank you SO much to everyone who turned up. Grub and I counted 22 bikes and there were 3 pillions at least so 25 people.

There was a HUGE pile of toys and books and Sue popped in with the kids a little later on and it was very cool to see them sifting through, playing, and commenting on how some of their toys seemed to have come back a different colour.

Thanks, once again, to the guys at TSS for clearing the carpark, and providing the BBQ and food. Thanks Maximusdemeritus for the expert snag cooking (no spitting sausages), and for the giant sacks of stuff you tried to sneak in. Thanks for the drinks Nasty :)

Everyone who turned up have done a really good thing for someone we can easily say deserved it.

All the rest of you folks sending stuff and donation money and vouchers rock too!
