One of their guys past me and I was curious to know if anyone had some feed back on their course? Have had one lesson and am really keen to learn. Thought this might be the easier option rather than pestering people to teach me hehehe

Are you talking about Basic Handling Skills? (They teach you to ride, go through the basics etc) or are you talking about advanced rider training?
If you're looking for basic learning than I'm sure a few people can post up different places you can get it done around your area...
If your looking for an advanced riders course of sorts send a PM to "The Stranger" as he helps a lot with a course called "Ride Right, Ride Safe" which is really awesome :)

Go for a lesson, it is the best way to go.
The pro instructors have been generally been teaching for years so they have the lesson plans all set up for you. They are also trained to build confidence, spot and correct your mistakes.
If your mates teach you then they may miss out some small but very important detail. They may also miss something you are doing wrong which will get you in trouble a few km's down the road.
So, have your first lessons with a pro, then surround yourself with some good riders (see the KB mentors). Then you should keep learning every time you get on a bike.

am booked in for a basic course sat 31st march. They will provide bike. Mine won't be ready to ride by then.
As long as I pass the course, will then be able to apply for my learners.
Course is not far from where I live.
Think I will be happier learning the basics from a stranger. I will be less nervous and not worried about if I am doing alright.

Will check out the R.R.R.S. group when I have a bit more confidence.
Same with the Wednesday night group.
Have to get the new bike up and running first before I can do either of those two things though.
P.S. live with someone who will teach me but he is a bit busy right now and didn't want to be a pest. When I decide to do something I usually just go out and do it. He gets to ride anytime he wants so don't think he really gets what it is like to want to ride and not be able to.

Stop making excuses - We have had people who have never ridden trailer their bike to RRRS to learn.
Last Sunday there was a woman there whom had only ridden once before.
You will be fine - particularly by the time the next one rolls around.

will definitely come along to the next R.R.R.S. course. Am just hoping I will be able to ride before then.
As I mentioned earlier, I am not the most patient of people.

Make sure you book for lesson + test and not just the test. The one hour lesson before hand can really settle any nerves you might have, also you run through the test course as much as you want. Guy that runs it is awesome

Wife did this course, bloody excellent. We had been blasting around a carpark a couple of times but she would just get all shitty when I tried to tell her anything so we thought she should learn the basics with someone she couldn't argue with!!
She did the course + test and walked away with her Basic Handling do-hicky, went into the licensing place the next morning and got her learners. After that we did a bit of cruising around the quiet streets while she built up her confidence.
Well worth it.

That's ok, nor am I.
We should get along fine then.

These courses aren't only for beginners. I did it about a year ago with Tauranga Ulysses. For me it was a refresher course/learn how to do it on the new bike. A bloody good day in fact!
It's a shame BRM (Bike Rider Magazine) don't do their track days any more. They often got you to practice these same skills in pit lane while another group was on the track.

I did my BHS test with Rider Skills and also opted to get an hours training on how to ride beforehand. It was really good as they show you exactly whats in the test and how to do it correctly as well as starting from scratch on how to ride a bike. all for $110 and I passed no problem :)

I did the BHS course with rider skills in rosebank road last weekend. Never ridden anything before and by the end of it I was quite happy, passed the test and got the certificate at the end. Quite good, the guy that ran it was real hard case.

it is $120 now. But I figure it is worth it to learn quickly and safely. Plus I get to use their bike.
The R.R.R.S. course is really good value at $50. can't wait for that one to come around.

Hi Folks,
I'm another newbie here and I'm doing my BHC tomorrow and was just wondering what gear do I need. I know they supply a helmet and I have some boots but do I need to get some gloves.
Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

My girlfriend (WickedToo) had never ridden a bike in her life and decided she wanted to ride as well. We got in contact with Lee Rusty (On KB as Lee Rusty) so that she could do a course and get her basic handling cert. It was $150 for the day (Sunday in Otahuhu) which included learning from scratch to holding her basic handlind cert!!!. When I dropped her off there she did not know a thing about riding a bike and was quite nervous.
I came back 3.5 hours later to pick her up and she was riding confidently around the car park. I was amazed.
Lee is EXTRMELY patient and is a fantastic teacher. I wouls not recommend anyone else after seeing his results. You can PM him on KB or PM me for his contact details.

I would suggest calling and asking as most instructors have different requirements.

Agreed, once you know how to actually ride a bike (Starting it, changing gears, braking etc.) riding on a track or closed circuit will teach you heaps. I know that my riding changed considerably after my first track day!!!
