I must admit - I loved "The Gladiator", what a wicked movie.

But for hardcore full on brutal gladiator like action - This movie takes the cake......

300 is the story of the 300 Spartan warriors that faced an entire persian army.
Based on a true events.

Due out in New Zealand next month.

Look here for trailers - http://www.themoviebox.net/movies/2006/0-9ABC/300/trailer.php

Frank Millers version gets my vote!

It's great to see some fresh faces and the directors graphical approach was quite entertaining.

From what little I know, the actual event/s was on a beach and the Spartans fought not only extremely brutally and with great courage but also used great tactical knowledge to defeat a much larger army... (Yay - discovery channel)

I look forward to seeing this movie.

Sounds like a pearler, looking forward to seeing it!! I loved Gladiator too, so hopefully this'll be as good, (then again, Russel does it for me, so that helped some:drool: :o ).

I look forward to seeing this movie.

It's the battle of Thermopylae, 300odd spartans with 700ish Thespians, at a narrow mountain pass. Though obviously Frank Miller went for entertainment over more historical evidense, and right he should. Have seen some of the graphic novel, it looked awesome. Can't wait for the movie.

If you are after a good book about the same event in history then check out "Gates of Fire" by Steven Pressfield.

But this movie looks so good, i've been forcing people to watch the trailer with me since December.
I might have built it up too much though - I hate it when I do that to movies :(

great movie, althugh story line has been tweaked,, they made persians look like useless barberians, when they were actualy a very advanced empire, according to the real story was , 300 men tried to block off a channel, and where obliviated by persians, but movie makes the 300 men look as if they took down thousands of persians, the respect was handed down as 300 men stood up against a massive army, but over the years, chinese wispers style , story's become greater etc,

I saw it last week, Frickin awsome. If you get a chance to see it on a Imax screen pay the extra $$ it's so worth it.
It's really violent and after watching it you feel like hitting the frickin gym cause all the Spartans have six packs and are real gung ho guys. It has a lot of fantasy stuff in it though.
For what it's worth I wouldn't waste my time trying to download a torrent because it is one of those rare films where I think it is so much better watching it on a big screen. I will buy it when it comes out on dvd.

Wow I never knew Classical Studies at boarding school would turn out to be so useful.

I've only seen the trailer but it should be an interesting movie. I imagine that the real battle would have been a lot less spectacular, and a lot more brutal.

300 Spartans, their associated helots, various Greek allies were shot with arrows or hacked to death with edged weapons in a very confined space to allow time for the main Greek forces to congregate.

Interesting times. The Spartans were regarded (especially by themselves) as the best, but they did have some very disturbing social structures to enable what was a very small state to produce an effective army.

Sounds like a homoerotic movie full of buffed male bodies.
I would recommend this to all Fight Club members and ex-members.

I'm keen to see this, just so long as it doesn't contain any violence, gore or war scenes - don't you hate that with war movies.
I hope this is not an Americanised version in which Case Davey Crocket will pop up yelling remember the Alamo

Yeah, I've got the DVD too if anyone wants to borrow it.

I won't spoil it for any of you who haven't seen it yet, but I will say that stylistically, its definitely a movie where the Director of Photography had a large say in the look and feel. Much like Sin City in that way really.

I saw it on IMAX thursday last late session. Rippin' good sandals and spear saga, loved all the historical inaccuracies so quintessential to Hollywood made movies (ironically, the 300 Spartans of the old MGM-quality was excellent as well and a bit more accurate)

Had it all, my brother said "so, you're going to watch that homo-erotic paen to homosexual brutes? Figgers ... you'd fit in right with them" :gob: Crikey - I think he's got issues!

Now.. where did I put my Argive shield, greaves and scarlet cloak?

ps - anyone spotted the gynecomastia on some of the buffed Spartans? I didn't know they had 'roids in them those days!

pps - I was half-expecting the "Hercules does Hollywood" pisstake "Oh, Labia, Labia!" "What was that Chlamydia?" "Vagina is looking for you Labia!"

Just as long as you don't go to Sylvia Park and get stuck in the front row about 5 metres from a 20-25 metre wide screen.

So bloody big couldn't see anything properly but seemed like a decent enough movie.

Sent letter of complaint to Hoyts as it was a touch ridiculous.

If you're going to see it see it on the big screen. Don't go to it with your chick if you want to feel manly afterwards :)

Narration bugged the shit out of me...didn't even sound like David Wenham. Very little plot/story, boobies for the boys, awesome stylised 'cinematography'. Visually beautiful, but was waiting for the end.

I liked it. The special cartoon style effects and bland colours got a bit much after a while. The Queen was hot. Nothing like our QEII.
I can't say I found it offensive or downgrading towards the Persians. They were shown as an invading army, just like lots of other invading armies over the centuries, nothing worse or better so why all the PC brigade moaning that it was picking on the rug heads?
And how many went out and bought an ab cruncher afterwards..

Saw it again tonight with a mate who hadn't. He made a comment how it was "picking" on the muslims with references to "mystics" and "magicians". He's indian, so I gave him the learn... reading way too much into something that Hollywood has adapted from a graphic novel adapted from an ancient incident!

The Pastor

the script and acting sucked. The movie was a let down, so much potential to be an awesome movie and it was only an average movie (3 out of 5).

"this isnt an army they are my body guards, im going for a stroll"

LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMEEEE.

get a decent script, focus a bit more on the tactful planning and fighting rather than just have a few hours of killing.

And add a damn sub plot.

Black sheep had more gore than 300. 300 was tame as.
