Shit... for $1200 bucks it would be nice to recieve a little freebee or two, not only that, I think the power of this console just aint quite right on my 14 inch tv. Oh well maybe I'll get one at christmas when they drop to $800 when they release the 100GB model.

Playstation 1 came out and was $1000 - 6 months later it was $300...

Playstation 2 came out and was $1000 - and again within a relatively short time frame it was $300 or summat...

Playstation 3 is $1200 and will be $300 in a few months time....

Shit if I spent $1000 on my bike it'd last a whole lot longer than 6 months (if I didn't run into a car...)

Big deal - another game...

only game I have any interest in playing on the PS3 is Metal Gear Solid 4.

So, it'll be the 360 for me when Halo 3 comes out.

As Col said, only crazy people buy consoles when they 1st come out.

Just wait and watch the price drop.

I donno, it's 360 or PS3 for me. The 360 looks cooler.

Just call me a crazy guy then...

Purchased the 360 the day it came out, never really used it and sold it a while later at a big loss. Should have known to wait for some decent games to come out first.

Never again!!

Dont know if I would buy a PS3...they seem to have a few good motorcycle games. I love the Wii...that is cool. Ive been told the PS3 is going to beable to have the same type of game play as the Wii...if so I think this would be a big selling point for them.
Its just far to much money to spend on a device to play games on...much rather spend the money on some good tyres and a tune up.

Yep, as a former hard-core gamer - I have to say, I didn't really feel any impulse to rush out and get a PS3. Was around at my mate's place on Friday and he had one. Played Motor Storm for a wee whiles, but was generally gobsmacked it was only 1 player :gob: Most titles you can go head to head without requiring another console ... and he did buy another controller, which didn't come with a USB recharging cable. You'd think at those prices they would have chucked one in with it (yeah, right )

I'll wait the mandatory time period and get it when it drops in $$$ and end up spending most of my playing time doing the ol'MGS route!

PS3 is more than a console thou.

For a start its a Blu-Ray movie player, and standalone Blu-Ray players are about the same cost as a PS3! So thats a definite bonus.

Its also goet a web browser and shit, good for those without a PC.

Heaps of other cool shit..

I havnt brought one, but I've been having to fight the urge quite hard (and I'm not even a real console gamer.. only got a PS2 about 18 months ago!)

My ex works for a playstation place plus my brother works foe E.A. games in England designing graphics. Have playstation games coming out my ears. Once the novelty of a new game wears off for the kids it goes with all the others. Have been known to sell some to make room for more.
Would certainly not race out and spend $1200 on a new consol.

Consoles and PC's should never be compared.

More than likely it does. Sony has always been good about that.

And the #60 does play some older Xbox games but not many. Just the bigger titles.

Indiana_Jones

I seem to recollect hearing they removed the 'emotion engine' or something from the NZ and Euro PS3 models and they only have ~60% backwards compatibility compared to the Jap and US models which are supposed to be 100% compatible with PS2 games.

1) Blu ray so what you have to buy your whole movie collection again?

2)Browse the net, as Indy said you don't want a games console for the internet its about oh surprise surprise games and fun

3)For the price or one of these you could easily get a good computer, if you don't have a PC but you have one of these you need to sort out prioretys

4)360 has much bigger hit games and the console is about half the price, and yes there are this many games you can play on your 360 which are origonal X-box game:D

When you see a PS3 plugged into a high-def monitor, you'll see what all the fuss is about. I saw a Gran Turismo demo playing the other night and it was achingly beautiful.

But ahh, I want a Nintendo Wii because of the tennis game. That'e heaps of fun.

Indiana_Jones
26th March 2007, 08:55
I'm sure it does look beautiful, but it depends what games it will have.

you can have the best looknig system on earth, but if you havn't got games for it, it aint worth shit.

but saying that I'm sure the ps3 will have some pretty mint titles. I heard they might be making TT 2 :D

A thing that looked suspiciously like a toasted sandwich maker appeared in our lounge last Friday, and mysteriously infested our EntertainmentUnit.

We are not amused. :argh:

Firstly, it means that we no longer have a room to relax in any more, as it is now occupied by lounging louts obsessively skateboarding through gardens, BlowingShitUp, driving their noisy off-roaders through the desert, and screaming obscenities at the Loewe when they faceplant into the fountain or their offroader turns turtle, or some BigArse Mutant Soldier blows their head off.

Secondly, it's all Freakin'BlueTooth controlled, which means our Onkyo Universal Programmable Remote(TM) doesn't work on it.

Thirdly, it uses some strange inscrutable logic for its menus, which means for us chronologically endowed humans, choosing to play a DVD or CD is no longer a simple matter of pressing a macro button on the aforementioned Onkyo Universal Programmable Remote(TM).

So, instead of listening to my new albums or the Black Adder Seasons 1-3 DVDs I purchased yesterday, my wife retired early for the night, and after a few minutes of watching Death'N'Gore on the BoobTube, accompanied by ornament-rattling 6.1-channel explosions and screaming, I did too.

The "thing" does seem to have one redeeming quality: I plugged my USB memory thingo into one of the "thing's" holes, and with a few clicks of the alarming slippery doofer, #1 Son managed to have a very swish slideshow of Our Adventures in Murka playing on the screen.

LOL I prefer a shotgun, a few rounds and a magpie distress call. Real life, no points, and pest destruction all in one fell swoop.

Why shoot things on the telly when you can do it in real life. Same applies to:
Soccer
Volleyball
Tennis
Racing

etc etc etc etc etc

Yeah, me too.
I've steadfastedly resisted attempts by the LoutishOffspring to get me involved in their computer games, Nintendo 64, Playstation 2 and 3, Atari, etc etc. I did have a wee play at Banjo Kazooie a few years ago, and one attempt at racing a souped-up Range Rover on a gravel track on GT4, but that was it.
They don't seem to enjoy these games (causes way too much angst) and they involve too much RSI and WAY too much yelling obscenities at the TV.

HL2!!!! - still find it hard to get those kinds of graphics in any other game - and that was years ago.........when is my episode II coming
I will have to get an ATI card in the next computer though. The geforce card i have right now is shit compared to the specs.

We have a PS3 in the flat right now on loan (flatmate works at GPstore). I was quite impressed - you can even partition and put another OS on it.
Graphics still weren't anywhere near what i wanted for $1200.
Girlfriend thought it was the new Breville Toaster  then she saw the PS symbol

yeah its def a ground breaking game.

I spent close to $4000 on a windows based gaming pc to play it when it came out... built it from scratch... clocked the game, played the first one again and clocked that again.. then gave the computer to my sister ...she now does her homework on it and plays 'the sims' on it! Bought the iMac and with the dual intel CPU's it goes like the clappers...

toaster?

I had the GeForce 7600 in it for a bit, and 1.8 AMD running at 3.2 - ran great, but kept upgrading the graphics card to keep up with the play... now all I need is to top out the iMac with RAM and I will be in with a grin!

I'll be getting one when they come down a little. Mainly for the Blu-ray player, Tourist Trophy, and short stints of blowing stuff up.
I'm not in the habit of 'collecting' DVDs (I mean WHY? One watch is usually plenty) - although I'll rent them from time to time so "having to buy my DVD collection" isn't going to be an issue.
Price is pretty silly - saw a 'deal' in the paper, PS3 + x number of games for $3000+ WTF?

I'll say it's expensive. Did you know we pay the most for PS3's IN THE WORLD!
I'd say that's a shocker as our GST is only 12.5% and the kiwi peso is currently very high. 640 euros by my calculations.

PS3 sux.

IMO.

Firstly, it is very hot. It's no coincidence it looks like a toasted sandwich maker.

Secondly (and these are not in order of suckiness), when playing music CDs, there was distortion, which is not a Good Thing.

Thirdlery, (and most galling), it has led to much Screaming and Performing, due to the ObsessiveOwnerWhoTakesGamingVerySeriously.

Fourthly, it had a bug, and when said OOWTGVS tried to log it, it (Sony?) didn't accept his password, then said he wasn't registered (he was) and wouldn't let him re-register because he already was. Gnarsty Catch-22 loop.

Fifthly, our Loewe 29" isn't good enough (now a moot point as we've banished it from the LoungingArea) and the dual 21" IBM monitors are too small. So OOWTGVS is trying to get us to buy a 42" high-res monitor/TV.

Keeps the kids occupied ( priceless for when it's hosing down outside). We've got over 30+ PS2 Games and it plays all of them so far. Plugs directly into the HD TV and the Home theatre no sweat.

will await till i hear if rugby 07/08 will be on it - for now will stick with the Xbox, Xbox360, 2 PC's and MAME arcade cabinet - yep my 3 boys love the gadgets in our house, hard part is convincing the accountant that we need these things. IF anyone has an old pc lying around then i reccomend you investigate building a MAME (multiple arcade machine emulator) cabinet. Ours has in excess of 4000 games going from the old pacman/defender through to the likes of King of Fighters and Metal Slug series, my boys 10,6 and 5 love it and i reckon its great that they get to experience the original arcade games that i grew up on.

Hey...my email worked.

"That leaves us with price. As we revealed last week, the UK is one of the most expensive places to buy a PS3 - though we should point out that New Zealanders and Irish residents are being hit harder than the Brits on this. The UK price is almost double what folk in Hong Kong pay, a differential that can't be explained by freight, import duty and sales taxes alone."
