View Full Version : First crash. Gutted! Car drivers SUCK!!

This is a TYPICAL reason y car drivers should ride bikes before being allowed to sit in a car driver seat!!

I was cruising with my friend down Whangaparoa road (north shore).. i was in the slow lane and some B*%$h decided she wanted my lane.. better yet.. where i was!! soo.. without indicating and no warning just swerved my way :shit: I slammed the anchors and lost control and slid on my new cordura!!

While sliding all i can think about was hoping that me and the bike not get hit/run over by a car.. it was freaky adn all happened so fast..

Seriously, my gear SAVED my life.. poor ZXR250 needs new fairings and i'll take another look at it tomorrow morning to c what else needs to be done..

OH YEA!! and the B*%$h made a runner!! didn't get number plate!!

I'd like to PERSONALLY thank FROSTY  (AWESOME GUY!!) for giving me gloves and pair of boots!! (would of had to use my ass skin for my hands!!) :gob:

Just as well we all got talking about gear that night eh?

Hope you're back sorted again soon. Christ there must be something in the air at the moment...

That sucks dude, was you in the persons blind spot?

I prefer staying to the right, and keeping cars towards my left side on mway etc. It's easier for car drivers to head check right than left, as well as mirrors etc. plus its just one side to worry about as the other side is a barrier!

Glad to hear ya ok!

Its called the lead up to winter. new riders need to be cautious as the roads start getting slicker and visibility starts getting worse this time of year, especially if it is your first winter on 2 wheels.

Was the friend you mention pillion or were they on another bike? If pillion, hope they are ok too. If on bike, did they not get any details of vehicle? Glad to hear you're still with us and not waking up this morning in traction...

Even without details, it's still worth reporting to the police.

They were on bike.. but they were too stunned seeing the smoke and me slide that they stopped and tried to help me and pick up motorbike parts in middle of road and ofcoarse try get motorbike out of the road.

It all happened real fast; when i thought of looking for car driver it was too late.. but yea.. Def something to look for (god forbid) next time.

If uz think its worth it then i will report it to police.. not sure if its much help though..

Report it....... the car took you out.

The driver may have even reported the accident themselves... (Tui)

The car will have damage or paint scraped off it.

Do you know the type of car and the colour of it?
All that helps.

There maybe a witness around who spotted the accident happen.
Do a letter drop to all the homes, near the accident scene asking for witnesses to contact you if they saw it happen.

Main thing is that you are ok..... and your bike can be repaired.

Definitely report it to police, without delay.
If you can give any details about the vehicle, colour, model etc then make sure you do that too. Take your mate along as a witness to the details and lay the complaint. DO IT TODAY!!!
Really glad to hear you are ok, bikes are much easier to fix than riders.
BIG UPS to Frosty (again) for giving you some gear that saved hours of surgery and weeks of recovery, now you know why we all say it is essential to have and wear.
In analysing the accident, you might want to think about a couple of things.
Consider your road positioning just before the incident, was it the best place for you to be?
Your braking technique, was it your best work or 'panic' braking?
Your road awareness or spatial awareness, was your mind on the job?, had you noticed any signs of the driver doing strange things earlier and not given them enough consideration?
The best/most expensive lessons come from these situations, make sure you learn as much as you can from it.
Take care of yourself

He said that the car veered into his lane, and he "hit the anchors" and lost control. The car didnt hit him. Just sounds like an inexperienced motorcyclist to me. The car may not have done a "runner", it was probably completly unaware of what was unfolding beside/behind them, if they didnt see you in the first place.
Glad your ok, but were your fingers broken? You have a whole keyboard to use, we dont need to use text speak on this forum, it drives people nuts.

My boss told me in my review that I need to become more subtle. Arr FFS I said, bunch of tree huggin' hippie homos, They cant handle the truth!
Boss looked at the floor and shook his head.

I know several ATMs that could well take that advice themselves...

...actually no, it'd ruin their charm... muhahaha

Yeah you are right. Most of the bosses.. ATM's and WM's are all pretty darn good.
This particular instance was Oscar 10, on blue.. good bugger he is.

Ah, Mr O?

I'm VAO, so not entirely up with the hierarchy...

Yea Definately sat down and analysed it at the A and E. i do have to admit i am not the best out there.. so i definatley did resort to "panic" braking.. and i did notice that car changed lanes without indicating before i was close, from now on i am DEFINATELY not "assuming" they can see me!!

I just want to get better asap and get my bike back on road :Punk:

Sorry about your ride, dude. I am seriously considering an on-board "black-box" camera (http://www.noelleeming.co.nz/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&productId=75052) for exactly this type of situation.

Anyhow, the important thing is that you made it through in one piece. Your ride is just some metal and plastic, your gear is just some fabric. They can be replaced and therefore are worth absolutely nothing as opposed to kidneys, spleen, or spinal cord.

My first thought when i read what happen was...perhaps dont ride in a drivers blind spot...gotta make sure they can see you at the very least, sometimes it dosent matter i know they will move over reguardless and in this case Ramyy came off relatively ok, could have been worse..

Speaking of inexperienced mistakes, I went to a minor bike crash yesterday along Manukau Rd. It was during afternoon peak. There were lines of traffic along the road, just crawling along. This guy an an SV 650 was "splitting" along the left hand side of the traffic, between the traffic and the kerb. When a car turned left into a side street and took him out, he was all pissed, wanting the driver to take responsibility bla bla. I'm waiting for this guy to start a thread about idiot cagers not looking etc. But it was clearly the bikers fault for his stupid riding position choice.

I know what you mean, It's easy to blame others for your inexperience as rider. But understand this I am in no way condoning what she did. Shit defnitely happens unexpectedly, like cars swerving into your lanes without indicating. What I have learnt is that it is definitely your job as a rider to anticipate to these stupid stupid acts of drivers. Pretty much your ability to respond to these situations is gonna save your arse.

I mean, I use to blame cars for everything, for this and that. But now after a little more experience on the road I can't expect cage drivers to know what I know.
Your best weapon against this sort of crap is to imporve your riding abilities and your anticipation.

She probably is a crap driver but who really knows, she could've just had a bad day. I mean shit is bound to happen to any rider , glad that it happen to you today, not that is good your bike is screwed, but the reason you got outta there alive and came out with a new sense of direction, you know enlightment, or whatever you want to call it...

Yes cage drivers do SUCK! That's why they protect themselves with all that metal, they know they're going to crash sooner or later!

Yea man, a broken bike is not a big deal in the big picture. Good to hear you're alright though. Same thing nearly happened to me on my first proper ride! Be it so without a license and not knowing how to ride to begin with. Some lady just forced her way over, lucky I was only doing about 5k's in peak hour traffic, or I would have probably done exactly what you did.

Hmm, it cant be THAT bad. I know I went to the AA and they wanted like $900 or more a year for like 3rd party with huge excess.. but I'm with VERO now and I pay $34 a month now ($400 per year) for full coverage. There are plenty of people who spend $34 a week on piss and smokes, so I don't think $34 a month is to horrible.
