hey guys n girls and men and women. I'm geting sick of my bike and the pitifull power she puts out:zzzz: and my mates are begining to think their cars might be able to drag  me and i don't want them thinking this. I already have a rep for being crazy on my bike but i wana back it up:innocent: . Could i get some help? in the form of mods i can do to get power and speed outa my baby?

An R6 should be able to see off most cars. The help you need is to learn not to be crazy and then get a bigger bike if you still feel the need. In the meantime, try a few trackdays

Oh, and welcome!

Do a couple of track days and see if you still think you are fast.
Serious question here, what makes you call the R6 "pitiful power?" And what are you trying to race against that might have a chance of coming close to it?
Welcome to KB by the way.

I think I know what your problem might be.

See if you can find a spud that is about the same diameter as your exhaust. Make sure it is a tight fit and then tap it home.

That should protect you from your mates, the road, mad car drivers .... and yourself.

What you need is Geen-o-Kleen. Evolution you can see. In the big economy size bottle. Add it to your petrol, you'll get where you're going in half the time.

heres a tip for ya.

oh fuck it. I was going to type out something about slowing down and learning how to ride the bike smoother and therefore naturally becoming faster but falling on squids ears.

looking over the results from cliffhanger sprints and no one broke 10 seconds so if ya mates car can do a sub 10 you are shit out of luck beating them on a standing quarter.

so its noted that i can't ride huh? okey dokey then.not being a smart ass but i would like to see how my fellow riders do. i'm completely self taught and my prob is i got no free time for rides no mates without cages and don't get far out of town for the huge wind up often enough maybe if i could get a few rides in with more experinced riders i might be able to ride more fluently yeah? then again maybe not.

Hi Supertramp.
Mods for your bike to go faster would be full race exhaust system, free flow air filter and carb jet/power commander tune up. All other mods to engine are not worth the gains for the money. Suspension upgrades are possible but the stock units should be ok when setup properly.
All this will only really have noticeable gains to someone who rides at the track.
I've had my 6R for over 4 years now. It still gets my adrenalin pumping and each time I ride it, I feel that I've ridden faster with more confidence than the last time. When I feel that this is no longer happening then I'll get a 1000cc bike. If you honestly feel you're at this stage, my advice would be to get another bike if you're die hard at smoking your mates cars.

perhaps... not having seen his riding. But I do know how fast some of those cars can be. Like from Top of Coromandle to Auckland City in 1 1/2 hour... However if they are setup for drags, usually it means they don't do so well around corners with those winkel wall tires

Mate, Manfield have open days quite regularly. Check out their website or www.kiwitrackdays.co.nz and get some track time. It's easily the cheapest way to improve your riding.

Is the R6 your first bike? If so, perhaps buying a RG150 or similar and putting sticky rubber on that will teach you a thing or two about maintaining corner speed.

Cars Vs Bikes has been covered many times here, at the end of the day, cars will beat bikes. (Formula 1 Vs MotoGP) The thing is, bikes are a shitload cheaper to go fast on. There's also a greater challenge to going fast on a bike.

If you get really keen, come racing. There's no bullshit at a timed race meeting

McJim

To go fast in a car you need to throw money at it.

to go fast on a bike you need to throw skill at it.

There are only a select few that can use all the horsepower their bike delivers and they've either been riding for decades or are gifted.

I'm a rank amateur - been learning for a year - about to go round Pukekohe on a 636 track bike tomorrow for the first time.

I intend to be humble and respect the track and the bike in the hope I might learn lots and one day become quite quick.

Develop your skills before you get any more power - if the bike currently puts out too much power to enable you to get round a corner perhaps the bike is too powerful for you - any idiot can go fast in a straight line - a true rider shows their skills in the corners.

That's a decent offer.

I won't be back at manfield until the second round of the winter series, but you're welcome to come and find me then if you're still around. I'll most likely be on bike number 212.

Even if you just show up at a manfield practise day, pay your money and get out on the track, you'll learn a lot about your bike and its limits. You're bound to find someone faster than you on the day unless you're Sam Smith.

26th March 2007, 18:32
Your 03 R6 should be good for a 10.8s pass or less with a skilled and lightweight rider on it.

A 600 has more than enough power, i've bet an evo 7 off from the lights and it wasn't stock standard. He might have got me off the mark, but when he changed gear i gave the R6 full tit and screamed past him.

Mods to make a 600 fast... try chopping weight where possible, this will get real expensive because you'll be replacing parts with carbon fibre rather than removing bits altogether. Otherwise, fuelling (PCIII) and airflow (K&N or similar and a full-race system exhaust).

Lighter wheels and chain will help acceleration, and while your at it you might as well remove or at least lighten your rear brake to save some more weight and gain a bit of acceleration in that department.

At the end of the day, you aren't going to gain a whole lot, and $$$ for performance gain probably would have been better off with a car... that's when the 1000cc bike comes in to the picture.

If you've got offers of help on your skills on a track then jump at the chance.

I had a great day at Pukekohe today - rode like a grandma for the first 2 sessions then got the hang of the bike a bit - 240kph for the first time in my life.

Quite windy at those speeds though

best mod would be a muzzy clutch, then a 50 dry shot nos, crank lightening and balance, port flow n polish, and muzzy cams and stato, with the air mod, and the carbon conrods with the after market oil bellows for gentle lubrication. Top it off with a cut back pipe and lowering bars, and that'll be a meeeeeeeeean ride bro

Don't forget you've got to forge the fuck out of the carburettors, and fit a motec system exhaust with a momo suck-off valve... You might want to change the chassis to full carbon fibre and make yourself out of carbon fiber for good measure too.

You need to sus the skills before you apply the speed.

A straight drag is too easy, challenge ya mates on twisties. Then see who is the better.
