Well interesting weekend.
Started out with Meanie wanting to take the FJR1300 out for a test ride. Couldn't say no to that so jumped on the 9 and off to town. Went out the track and over through balance and it became obvious fairly eary on that Meanie was not on the VN1500. Pace was really comfortable and it was a really nice bike to follow too.
Ended up back in Ashhurst and I had a few jobs to take care of. Coffee first.
After coffee I intended on getting onto my chores but there wasn't a cloud in the sky and my bike was sitting there taunting me. Fuck it .. going for a ride.
Went out Vinegar hill on my own and everything was feeling good. Spent a bit of time practicing no braking and holding corner speed, getting off the bike and getting the weight distrubuted right and before long I had become one with the bike. Vinegar Hill came and went real quick. I thought it was longer than that. Up the top was a couple of bikers stopped for a break so thought I best stop and have a chat. Phil and vod dont post much but looked familar and after a few minutes chatting realised that we actually did the coast to coast together a couple of years ago. Good to catch up.
Time pressing on I had to carry on and had already decided that I might as well head on up to Te Awamutu.
The main roads were surprisingly empty. No traffic and no cops. Steady 120km/hr and found my way through to tamuarnui before long. There were a heap of bikes from Taranaki there. stopped for a look and it turns out they were on a mystery weekend where only one person actually know where they are going and the rest follow. Fantastic idea and I thought we could do something like that for the ashhurst rides but then realised you have to have one person who knows where they are going. Oh well.
On for the final stretch to Te Awamutu. No traffic at all right through 8 mile and found myself up at licence loosing speed real quick. Cornering was smoother and had that good feeling going on.
Turning onto the main road and not far out of TA I past a group of guys who were on the front lawn of a farm house in the country. There was a couple of bikes on the front lawn and few beers around. As I went past they gave me a very enthusiastic hands up. I was surprised and went to wave and kind of half way lost my balance and did a bit of a amuteur swerve thing. Must have looked like a dick but they caught me by surprise. Kbers????
Then a couple of km down the road a cbr600?? was coming the other way and when he got waving distance away from me he gave the same "hoooo yarr" hands up that the others had done. Natives are friendly I surpose.
I wasn't really ready to get off the bike by the time I hit TA but I had come that far and thought it be rude not to visit my parents so parked bike up for the night and had a fwe rums.
Trip home today was a bit more of a pain in the arse. 5km into the journey home and snapped the exhaust bracket (again) on my bike. Called into a farmer friend that I wasn't too far away from and did a repair job.
My repair job sucked cause it broke again in National Park. Now I thought I was toast being near the middle of no where and all but the guy at the service station was a legend. I had oen bungy that I tied the muffler up with and wanted another but he didnt have any so he run round and found me some wire to wrap around it and that was great but then he realise he had an old bungy in his car and offered me that. The wire did the job so didn't take the bungy but he was really helpful and just couldn't do enough as it was. Great stuff.
Nursed the bike home and now I have to repair the bracket AGAIN. ARRGGGHHH.
Anyway. Great weather. fantastic ride. Didn't have any fish.
