View Full Version : Major change in lifestyle, oh dear what have I done.

Been here in NZ for 4 years now. Came back with nothing but a suitcase full of clothes. Left everything else in the UK, what little there was.
Got a job, got another one, met a young lady, got serious about her.
Last weekend she took me to an open home.
I should have guessed as she had the newspaper clipping in her purse for two weeks.
Spent 2 hours looking over the houses and property. I knew she loved it as she kept going back to have a real close look at everything 3-4 times.
All she could do on the way home was talk about the house. Tonight I visit her and she has made an appointment with the bank, who said no problem to the loan ($500,000), got back to my house and my lady rings to tell me that we have an appointment at 7pm to see the place at night.
SO it looks like we will be making an offer. Subject to finance.
If all goes well I will be the co owner of a 2 acre property, 35 min from Papakura. 3 bedroomed 1950s villa style with a 2 bedroom cottage. Chicken runs, orchard and wide open views. Seen wild turkeys and pheasants there and there are probably rabbits.
From nothing to a property owner in 4 years. Not bad.
Very nervous though. Almost bankrupt in the UK and sold my house to pay off all the debts.

Franklin area.
Going to have to talk to owners of land around me and ask if they mind me doing some rough shooting.
Nice paddock to the side that could be worth keeping an eye on.
Been a city boy most of my life, well ever since I moved from Waiouru at age 13.
More nervous about living without all the city trappings. Major change for me.
Lived in London for three years. Hated the crowds.
Excited. Apprehensive.

The cottage is brilliant man! You don't have to go sleep on no steekin' couch when it all goes pear shaped, you can setup your own separate man cave!
1 bedroom for bikes, the living room for computer and stereo, and your very own bedroom with no snoring woman in it!
Good score dude!

Heh. Rachel and I went looking for a house - just casual like, you understand. Anyway, we saw this place, and whenever I even mentioned not getting it she burst into tears. Hmmm. Sold.
Second best decision I ever made, after Rachel herself obviously. It's not like I really made the decision either, is it?

Finally you realise the truth! lol
Good luck with the property and the new life, enjoy it and the challenges it will bring with it.
Country folk don't usually care about a bit of shooting as long as they know you know one end of a gun from the other.
But it pays to check as the down side could be significant if you shot their pet turkey around xmas time.
best of luck

I believe the bank will be the owner...
If I am good, my bank manager allows me to go into his safe and visit my testicles occasionally...
One day he might give them back.:shit: So long as I keep giving him my pay packet.

It sounds great, congratulations! Sounds similar to our story in a way - we bought a house together four years ago and it was a huge step. We got three acres in the country and we love it. Sure, it can be a lot of work at times, but the peace and quiet certainly make up for it. No way could I live in a big city - and we're only about 10 minutes from town and a little over an hour from Wellington or half an hour from Palmerston North so it's not too remote.
Next step will be the engagement ring - that came a year after we bought the house and the wedding a year after that! Four years down the track, would I change a thing? No way! You'll love it!

Ditto what Terbang said.
Welcome to the neighbourhood Mr Merde.
We have two acres and a 1925's Villa style house thingy with Garage, Sheds and a Barn, wide open space and views, Love it and wouldn't change it for the world!!!
Plenty of room for the bikes (4) and a cow and a pony and a pool.
Good luck securing the property, it will be an investment that will appreciate!

Congrats dude!
No I've got the 1887 and one or two other similar items that work fine.
How's the practice with Mr Defender going. Magpie population depleted?
Saw wild turkeys and partridge down there as well as the bunnies.
Anyone know where in Franklin I can go for deer and pig?

Hah, sounding kinda familiar here. Met my man early 2003, and did the the long distance thing for over a year. In 2004 I moved from Wellington to Auckland. We purchased our house together in 2005, Engaged in 2006, (add in two cats and ....two motorbikes somewhere between 2004 and 2007 ), and all going to plan, wedding is next year (08)....phew!
Now just to talk him into a couple more furry kids... ;):innocent:

Just an update.
We went out to see the property tonight, wanted to check it out at night and the wet weather was a bonus.
Timed the trip. 30 min from Settlement Road in Papakura.
Still liked the place. Very much and there were no signs of water on the ceilings.
Went back to the real estate office, filled in the papers, made our offer. Just got home and the estate agent was on the phone. Our offer was accepted.
Goes unconditional on the 17th April.
Looks like 5th of May as a moving day.
It is going to take a lilttle while to get used to the quiet, the darkness and the lack of neighbours.
Am I ever excited.
