Yay what fun, racing, again, at pukekohe, on a gsxr 600... A faster one ;)

Set my hopes on getting a single solitary 1:02 during the day. You see, I really want to break under the 60 second mark there before it is closed forever, if indeed that ever happens.

The day saw a reasonable turnout, and nice shiney weather.

I was just too lazy to change tyres, so was on a worn out mis matched pair. He he, funny...

Went out in the first practice/qualifying (fashionably late, as per AMCC requirements...)

Last time I rode, was the thousand at taupo, so took a few minutes to get back in the swing of the 600 on pirelli rear and dunlop front.
Qualified 9th in F1.
Wasn't too worried, AMCC rounds are more a fun learning thingy for me, ain't trying to set the world on fire (borrowed phrase, you had to be there.)

Second prac/qual for F2, went a bit faster, to qualify 5th on the grid, behind NickO, Karl Morgan, Ricky Mckay and Dave Manuell.

First race came up, and I was suffering from far too great a deal of nonchalance...
The worst ever start from absolutely everyone in the feild saw a slow take off, but usual place swappings in turn 1... Damn me being too chicken!!

Settled in behind kevin brookes... He's a tad quicker in some spots, and a tad slower in others. Then a whizz and flash comes by, Craig Ogle, form waikato yamaha, comes flying past on his R1, just past the kink. I was a bit miffed by this, but had a sneaking suspicion, which proved correct, when I rounded the hair pin to see him running off onto the grass at the exit. He didn't lay it down, but lost a bit of time, and never caught me again. Caught Kevin on the kink on the last lap, and held him off till the finish, for a 7th. Yay what fun. I love beating kevin ;)

Second race, F2, average start, caught up a couple of lost places, and finished in 6th, just behind Kevin this time. I think he likes beating me.

Second F1, and I got cramp halfway. Tires are beginning to show thier second handedness with slides everywhere. Did I mention cramp? Left hand, both legs, and the small of my back (been causing problems for a 4 weeks now) busstid thing.

Survived for an 8th, with Craig getting me this time.

Thought, better not settle for this rubbish, and so busted my arse for the next few races, cramping still, but I am just soo hard that I ignored it.

Made it through the day, with only new scratches being on my knee sliders.
Figured out puke a little more, and busted my previous PB by a second and a half. down to 1:03.27

Those 2s are getting closer, I can almost feel them!!

Had a wicked moment in the spot where Bugden ran off in the last superbike race, going through the left hander after the hairpin. Knee was on the deck (unusual for me there) and I lost the rear. Not the usual sliding lost, but full on flick, lost... a moments fear, and then I am flicked up onto the tank, and before I have time to think, i am back on the gas, and up the hill, to take my best result of the day, a 4th in F2.

If it weren't for the near death experiences, would any of us race???
I loved it!!

Thanks heaps to Bronny and Sarah, putting up with moaning me.
Nicko, and co conspirator lead pack, for giving me people to chase.
Strat and Bugjuice, for helping us out in the pits
and Jill, for being such a good chick.

Was good to go and see Paul afterwards, and finally be able to say I have made the K6 go quicker than he did ;)

Good on the AMCC, I had fun, so thanks heaps!

Would've loved to have stayed longer, brah. Tis rather scary having the rear slide there huh? When it happened to me I didn't get flicked out of the seat though, hope you had clean undies in the wagon

Nice Johno, sounds like you are way faster on the K6 than the K2, I don't know if I could match those times. I'm a little intimidated by the circuit since all the carnage that has been going on there, I'm avoiding racing there a bit even though I love it once the red veil is down, it always scares me afterwards.

A great write up, I like this bit.-

"so busted my arse for the next few races, cramping still, but I am just soo hard that I ignored it."

You did very well considering you had a broken, tiwitching arse, (didn't really need to mention the erection).

Good effort, I am sooo jealous, can you tell?

Cheers

That K2 has done 62s around there before. The new owner's just got to learn how to ride, and it'll do them again
