View Full Version : Help - locked out of KB at work!

ManDownUnder
27th March 2007, 14:58
ok..."someone" has been locked out of KB due to "changes at work" and needs to know of a portal or mechanism they can use to look at KB while the server sees them looking elsewhere...

I know the site was posted in here before but damned if I can find it.

yeh, you need a proxy service eh... they're mostly slow and fairly crappy... personally I think you need to man up and quit your job.

Can't be lacking KB time can we.

If ya being firewalled, then they also most likely firewall\block most known anon proxies so wont really help. Have you tried the IP address
(currently 216.237.127.130) as some of the older surfcontrol apps\firewalls blocked URL's and not IP's. but I dont fancy your chances.

At my place of work I am one of the people responsible for monitoring and controlling internet access. We consider the use of anything that bypasses our blocking as serious network misuse, and staff that do so find themselves on the receiving end of disciplinary action from HR.

Be VERY careful using proxies to get around blocking, because many companies can and will dismiss you for it.

Couldnt you just telnet to your own PC and use the web from there?

Works server allows connection if you specify that you need to connect remotely from home.

Just an idea.

Do you also want tips on how to steal cash from tills and petty cash drawers?

If you argue that surfing kb at work is is not theft as a servant because it is time you have worked in excess of your contracted hours you are still at the very least acting without goodwill by intentionally breaking company policy and incurring internet traffic costs for personal use.

Imagine finding an electrician surfing the net at your house - you'd be pissed and not want to pay them.

Just an alternative view.

Yeah but only one person emailed them to me at work so I could try them out!!

IT'S MEE, SMEE!!

Yes it's theft (of company time) but isn't smoking and 'extended' coffee breaks or social chat around the office? I don't engage in those activities...

I don't recommending browsing at work, because the network admins can see you're browsing a web proxy, and it won't take them long to figure out you're looking at something you shouldn't be.

There are ways of doing it so it's unnoticable (SSH tunnel through port 443 (to anyone watching, it just looks like you're browsing HTTPS site (Like internet banking)).

It's quite complicated to set up though.

i was an insurance broker at the time so i told my boss that i needed access as i often got quote requests via PM's, it was kinda partly true, sorta i guess..

worked a charm, does kb have any use for your 'ahem' friend?

Agreed, but I didn't argue that.

There's also the contra view that every minute I work beyond my allotted time I should be paid for. Alas that's not the case either. Swings and roundabouts eh?
