Is it againt MNZ Regulations to race with titanium knee and/or toe sliders:love: ?
I keep wearing out my knee and especially my toe sliders around ruapuna:scooter: , but I can get some scrap titanium from work for free, this might be a bit more durable than plastic? Would it be illegal to screw/bolt this to my knee sliders and my boot toes?
Any advice would be choice:scooter: ,

I have been running kneescrapers with titanium in for years now,but they are plastic, with bits of titanium in them,if they were 100% metal the sparks would be huge & a distraction, the rules dont say anything, but I am sure you would get complaints

I've no idea about the original question but would titanium spark? I a wedding ring made from it till I lost it (Oh the pain that went with that episode!) and it would scratch easily. Maybe not as easily as ali but I would have though that it was soft enough it wouldn't spark.

Doesn't Troy Bayliss use Ti toe sliders in WSBK?

Heck yeah. It looks awesome if you're following someone closely that has them - showers of sparks come back at you.

Icon makes the TiMax range - gloves and jackets - with titanium plates. I'd have thought that if it were prone to sparking they wouldn't use it as armour - could be nasty in a spill if sparks from your armour ignited petrol spilling from your bike...
I could be wrong, I'm just making an assumption based on my thoughts on safety.

HAHA-Nice assupmption but sparks are bling, who cares bout safety???:zzzz:
Ti sparks real good.
I THINK that there is something in the rules saying its not on, but as bistard says, if its not excessive, no one minds.
But also, Titanium isn't that hard-wearing. I made my own sliders a few years back for the same problem..they were wood, teak. lasted longer than any plastic, smaoked when slide and smelt bad, according to followers. Didn't like sliding in the wet, started to break up a bit..but they lasted for ages!!!! PLanning on making some more soon.

Well wasn't about to try it out with the wedding ring. I'm a dumb shit - I've cut up ali with a grinder and it sparks (not the same as steel though) so should have though!
I suspect the bike will be creating enough sparks that the Icon Ti gears is kinda irrelevant.

Any metal will spark and burn if you heat it enough.

Well, each to their own, but as pointed out jus a little further down, the bike is going to be creating its own shower. what comes of you is irrelivant. Also, petrol isnt a touch igniter if it isnt pressurised...its quite docile, even innert, when not put in a combustion chamber and pressurised at 9+:1. A few lousy sparks arn't going to set it off. And don't blag a product without even half a story. The Ti on those is enough to stop major hand injury as it will flex as you hit the grond, very good impact absorbtion.Plus with wear, say your hand is trapped by the bar, will take a lot longer to wear through that some of the flimsy 'carbon' knucked products.

Seam all good i imported them from the states, the ones i got a touch to small for me nothing major tho, the leather is nice and thick, seam warm enough, and not really riden in real heavy rain since i have a different pair of gloves for wet weather riding, alot of people really love look of my gloves,

stop posing and start riding :bleh:
there is no need to load up the knee sliders unless you're trying to save falling on your arse and with your record for falling off it obviously isn't helping

I've only fallen off twice around the track and thats only once a year.
My knee sliders arn't too much of a problem, but my bloody toes are they keep wearing out really fast!

So move the position of your feet!!
Its that simple!!,next you ride the bike make a conscious effort to have your feet out of the way, ride on the balls of your feet, makes it easier to change direction & load/unload the pegs
Sketchy_Racer
29th March 2007, 09:01
so put your toes on your pegs.
and don't weight up your knee. It's only there as a guide, and if in a really bad situation, a way of saving your arse...
Different people ride differently, but if you don't want worn out knee and teo sliders, don't slide em

Hey TT, long time no see, what's happening? See you've gotten yourself into bucket racing. Still get valve tap on the CG? Cool, how are you finding it? Might have to get my tail down to the track to check it out myself, been getting more interested recently! Nice.
Have to go for a ride when I get back, if you're keen. Chur :)

Nah actually that is with my toes up on the pegs as far as they go.
It's only REALLY a problem on the CG as the pegs are fairly low, I'm racing quite hard you see on that bike.
Hey devient, havn't been doing much road riding lately, with my blown up bike and all.
Been doing heaps of bucket racing, got third in the production championship last season.
Will have to go for a ride next month sometime perhaps if I have rebuilt my engine by then.
Bikes now consist of:
KR250 Road bike, it's a 80's kwaka 2 stroke tandem twin sports bike
TC125 dirt bike, an old suzuki 70's single 2 stroke, and I've got a spare bike for parts
CG125 bucket racer, it's the same bike as I used to ride, except with less stuff on it, sticker tyres, a fork brace and number boards
Special bucket racer, it's a custom frame, single seat unit, 17" wheels slicks discbrakes etc, XL125s motor with 6 speed 200 head etc with shortened 185 barallel and piston to make it 150cc. It's quite fast and very light.
CB250RS pre '82 post classics race bike, it's fairly standard likes to rev though for some reason, redlines at 9 but pulls round to about 11 or somthing!
And I have a Suzuki Sepia AF-50 scooter:scooter: I ride around town.... Great fun

Damn dude, you've sure been busy since I last caught up with you! 3rd in production is a good effort, well done. I've been pondering getting into buckets myself, but I suppose I'd really need to go along to a race, maybe try out a bucket myself to see how I liked it. Still, good way to get into two wheeled racing and to improve your riding skills. Fun too no doubt! :ride:
You sure have collected yourself a few extra bikes too... you were talking about getting a two smoker last time but still only had the CG. Evidently that two smoker came into fruition as the KR, but it went bang? Oh dear, rebuild time? I suppose all your other bikes aren't road registered. CB250 sounds pretty cool though, as does the custom bucket... whee!
No hurry. Be good to have a pint anyway regardless if you've got the KR going.

 Yeah you can come out and try bucket racing eh, you can ride the CG.
The bucket club has some leathers you can borrow, you will just need helmet, gloves and boots and a back protector, but you might be able to borrow one of those too.
It's great fun.:Punk:

I've got helmet, gloves, boots, and track legal zip together two piece leathers... but no back protector. Still, at the risk of scuffing my precious leathers, maybe I should still borrow theirs? :dodge:
Sounds bloody awesome mate, I'm keen as. I leave England in a little over two weeks, and it's going to be good to get home to my old flat, ride my bike again (damn I've missed it)... and especially my bed. It'll be total luxury compared to the thing that passes for a bed over here! Mattress has worse springs that a Morris 1000.
PM me your cell number (might still have it on my phone but not sure as it's in NZ still) and I'll give ya a text when I'm back :D
TygerTung
30th March 2007, 12:20
Yeah my cell is 027 4288 726.
The bears series are good for bucket racing usually about 25 or so guys out on buckets:scooter: it's glorious!

I don't think I should go out in a race on my first ride of a bucket! Would probably seriously worry the other riders as they came around to lap me for the 3rd time. Can just imagine them coming up behind me thinking "oh christ, here we go again..." as I wobble through corners taking an "imaginative" line in front of them... Not such a good look. :oi-grr:
How does one get into bucket racing and avoid this sort of scenario? Or is there a beginners group or something? It'd probably take me a few laps to get used to the bike, and probably another few decades to get up to anything like an acceptable pace... :pinch:
TygerTung
30th March 2007, 14:51
Well there is a practice first,
Nah don't worry youll be sweet you just stick to your line and don't swerve hardout and you'll be sweet as.
First time I went out I was doing quite well, not coming last or anything certainly.
Come out for the first bears meet, get a day licence and away you go.

Like to see you try and use that as a toe or knee slider. I bet if you cooled it enough to solidify it it probably does too (maybe?)

I don't think it would spark, it would just melt and go liquid again.
