If you haven't got one - get one.
I've got them for Shoei and Arai lids.
IMO they are the best solution for nights like tonight.
Fog city and inserts are good. Pinlocks are better - no glue.
Money doesn't matter when it's blowin sideways like tonight.

If you don't know what they are:

I bought a fog-free visor - looks exactly the same as the original, right down to the part number (?!) for my HJC for $100ish; seems to work pretty well. You think this is better?

I don't like the idea of the potentially distracting seal in from the edge of the visor, but I suppose you get used to it.

Are the pins removeable, or can you get replacement ones so you can move the insert to a new visor if you crack the old one?

I think the replaceability of the insert gives it an advantage.
I don't notice the seal (only the beachball).

Not sure about the pins etc either - i think so. Your solution might be just as good - the pinlocks are the best I have tried.

I have one on my Arai - brilliant. You don't realise how much so until you haven't got it on.................

You really don't notice the edge at all. My only beef with inserts is that I already wear glasses so now there's three bits of plastic between me and the world.....

There are only two things I've used that have fulfilled their promise of being fog free.

1. Pinlock.

2. HJC's fog free visor combined with a big giant breath guard.

There are pluses and minuses with both solutions.

Oh - I forgot to mention the other thing that makes a big difference. I don't have the breath guard, but keeping my beard well trimmed at least allows my breath to go out past my chin ...

1. If only pinlock inserts stopped prescription eyewear fogging.
2. If only Mr Shoei made a bigger helmet.

I bought some Cat Crap for that at the same time as the fog-free visor; I haven't had much problem with my glasses fogging since - but then I haven't had a problem since I got my new glasses either, and I haven't had a problem with them either. Perhaps because I haven't actually done that much riding in them in adverse conditions.

What?

With ya Dave.
I've been using Fog City inserts since before they could be bought in NZ, and they are great. Used a Pro-Grip insert once, and was mightily unimpressed.
Then I got a Nolan hat, and the Pin-Lock inserts are indeed better than Fog City. Possibly more effective at not fogging, and minimal internal reflection.
I also have a BMW SportIntegral lid - the visors have an anti-fog layer permanently bonded. It appears to be the same material as Pin-Lock inserts (certanly works the same). The total lack of internal reflection makes them perhaps better than Pin-Lock, but of course BMW (actually Schuberth) don't make visors to fit a Shoei...

This is why I prefer cat crap, perfectly clear visor all the time.

Well I have to say that I'm not one hundred percent happy with my Pinlock.

New Arai Helmet...less than one month old....dark pinlock visor...pinlock sheered off already!! Kerry's getting me a new one hopefully.

Seems there's no room for ham fisted adjustment while riding. The pinlock is very fragile.

I had no idea what a pinlock visor was. Cheers.

I shall investigate one for my HJC this winter. To go with my new heated grips ;)
I plan to be more comfortable this time!

Lists should always be at least three (3) items.
Perhaps you could add: "3. If only I didn't have such a fat head."

It does if you visit the LASIK eye centre on your way to the bike shop :)

Am thinking seriously about that. One wonders if Mr Lasik can do "bi-focals"...

I agree Dave. I have got a pinlock in my Arai and no matter how hard you breathe you can't fog it up.

I reckon you had a faulty one.

I have 4 helmets (perk of the trade) and subsequently a stack of visors (at least 2 for each of 3 full faces) and they are all nested together. the pinlocks have survived well so far.

BMW sell a double-walled visor for their helmets.

If you want a good laugh, drop by their shop in Newmarket and ask how much it costs.

How are they for sunstrike?
I had a Fogcity on the Arai and took it off in the end due to a marked increase in sunstrike distortion.

They are brilliant in the wet, though.

Neither do I all the time - mostly wear an open face - but there are times when that's not the best option. High speed, high risk, long touring and pissing down rain like last night egs.

I use an MX style helmet all the time - I like the chin protection that you dont get with an open face helmet.

And a pair of sunnies, or clear glasses for eye protection.

Ok in the rain, but hail hurts :(

If you keep it clean and in good order it's fine - the one on my arai is tinted and I use it in all day conditions - even summer it's no issue.

Main problems with MX helmets are rain and noise level.

I got a pinlock system as well, my helmet did work with a pinlock so I just drilled some holes in my visor and wacked that sucker on, best antifog ever! 200% happy with it, its one of the few things that actually work. Like instant coffe, you add a teaspoon of instant coffe to a cup and add boiling water, It really is instant! No stiring or waiting at all! Amazing.

How do you fit the mouthpiece under the chin bar on the helmet?

Mine must be a noisey helmet then.
The wind noise is louder than the bike at 110kph.
560cc high compression single with SuperTrapp and race core.

If you have trouble with fogging up and want a great solution and your helmet can take a pinlock system on your visor then get one. It will be worth the money and fogging up will be a thing of the past. No shit. It works very well. I recommend it.

It's about time for a new helmet for me. I'm keen on those Nolans with the sun visor that flips down when you need it. They're about 5 hundy and there is one with bluetooth toy stuff in it do these have pinlock stuff ? cos in winter if the pin lock works I'm in.

Or get cat crap.

Cat crap will solve the problem on any helmet, so you can keep your visor and only spend $10.

Cat crap is the shit!

The Pinlock is a Nolan invention doc, so the Nolan N102E's get pinlock as standard, and yes it does work in winter. All round the edge of the pinlock will fog up while the insert stays perfectly clear.

What?

Dunno about Nmewmarket, but Tauranga price is about the same as a Shoei visor plus a pinlock insert...
