One of my workmates recieved an e-mail depicting a series of crash pictures from a crash involving a sports bike vs a tree at 200+kmh.
All I can say is that it wouldn't have hurt and it would have been easy to pick up the guy as most of his bits look like they weighed less than 20kg!
Ironicly (sp) the most intact part of him was the lower part of his head (there wasn't a top) and the helmet looked pretty good too
Bike wasn't too flash neither!
Ride Safe People!!!
edit: Very graphic crash images.

Trees aren't all that forgiving, i had a crash outside my old place in mt albert old ford falcon vs tree, falcons are pretty solid cars, tree's are more solider and made a mess out of the car, 3 dead, and for some reason the driver survived who had no licence and was 3 times over the adult limit.
What got me most was the parents supplied the kid with the car and the piss, go figure.
Hate to think what a bike vs tree would turn out like...... indeed ride safe everyone.

Yea... I try my best to be as safe as possible while having fun at the same time... I'd hate to put people who care about me through the crap of dealing with the loss etc just cause I decided to run into a tree at 200+! Not to mention the firemen, police people who have to deal with the mess...
Hmmm... It is a horrible reality... makes you wonder sometimes...

One of the many occupations I havew had was that of a hospital orderly. On this ocassion I was working in the morgue when this guy was bought in. He had been hit by a train on a motor bike. Still intact but if you can imagine an infaltable doll half pumped up and covered in tar, (bruising) you may be able to imagine what this guy looked like.
Be safe people be safe.

Someone pointed out to me once that if a rider hits an unyeilding object (wall, tree etc) head on at 100kph that rider is dead. It don't matter if you're wearing Dainese, it don't matter if you're wearing Arai. Your brain gets smashed to shit inside your skull. Remember you are mortal.

Hey, what a coincidence! the guy I mentioned was wearing an Arai jacket, thats how you could tell which way round he was 'facing' - if he had a face! :gob:
His helmet looked comparatively empty of brains though.

This could be me in defence mechanism mode, but I figure that if you are travelling at 200km/h in anything - bike, car, skateboard (!) whatever - and hit something stationary, you can pretty much flag ever getting home in one piece (or less that ten!)
You can talk to any cop who attends accidents around the place and they will be able to share some pretty gruesome tales of what happens to bodies in accidents between cars etc ...

I saw a guy I knew that was gooning around on his bike just up the road from here and hit a fence post trying to avoid a horse, we saw his body lying waiting for the ambulance, his g/f had just been airlifted to hospital, he was wearing no helmet and smashed his skull, it took a long time before I stopped seeing it in my head. knowing my son is capable of travelling that fast on his bike scares me shitless, but there's nothing I can do about it except pray that his time on this earth is destined to be long and healthy. Can you imagine the family of that guy, and what they would have to go through to identify him, also their feelings with regard to motorbikes now!

Well, some months back I drove (in the cage) past a motorcyclist lying unconscious in the left land of the northwestern motorway, southbound, with his right leg bent up around his shoulder. Helmet off, not looking too flash. Bike off the road. Didn't see a helmet nearby, actually, he might not even have been wearing one. Other motorists already in attendance with cellphones etc, I don't know anything about first aid (must remedy that) and Sarah was freaking out, so I carried on home.
It really beats me how he managed to crash right there, though. Nice flat straight section of motorway.
A chap at work described a friend of his having the experience of being the first to walk past the remains of a early morning suicide jumper. Can't remember which city he was in at the time.

Them modern, high-performance knitting needles are ferocious when mishandled, boy. Been a few horrible incidents. You think *all* those blue-rinse grannies die peacefully in their sleep? Think again. They lay off the wool for a few decades to focus on lawn bowling, head back into a knitting shop one day and buy whatever the salesman points out first, take it home, fire up a skein and WHAMMO! Good night, nurse.

Given that the person and incident in question is presumably unidentifiable, and that the photos will certainly be up in numerous other places around the internet, it seems pointless to take them down.
If it was an incident in NZ, I don't think it'd be appropriate to leave them up due to the likelihood of family and friends stumbling across them, but as it is... why worry.

i've been first at more than a few, especially when i worked in cambridge and huntly - finding them in the middle of the night in the fog. it's never a good thing, the first look inside a car to see how many are still breathing, but the hunting in the paddocks for the body (usually sleeping kids) that 'were' have been in the back seat is the worst.
as for eating shotties/.308's/.22's/9mm handguns.....more than i care to remember

Me and my mate were basiclly the first out to the car in that carsh in mt albert, it wasn't the nicest thing to deal with, i listened to this kid gurgling in the back seat, turned out he had a ruptured aorta and was drowning in his own blood, the guy i got out of the car had broken both his legs and his lower back. Driver had to be cut out, can't believe he lived to be honest, guy in front passenger seat died instantly when the dash came to meet his face and broke his neck, none of the ones in the back were wearing seatbelts.
Not being a cunt but i find it hard to show sympathy for them, driver had no licence, they were all way over the limit, speeding in a 50km passing veichles etc etc, and the parents were the ones that brought them the piss and gave them the car, i mean wtf.
Think the worst thing for me that i can think of is watching a mate go down in front of me at speed, and going back there not knowing if he/she's okay, something i never want to deal with, i'm sure it'd be the same for a lot of you guys n gals.

Yeah, quite right SC, solid slug or number 7 shot, if the loud end of the gun is touching skin the result always has an untidy appearance, the shot size is irrellevant..

I believe it is promoting "Forgiving Roads" policy where by powerpoles trees etc in dangerous places are shifted or removed completely

my daughter and her partner had a car crash a few years ago, doing 175km and wiped out on a corner neatly missing 3 concrete power poles and several trees, they ended up upside down in a ditch, all 4 of the occupants were ok, the car was toast. I drive past those poles most days and always think they could have been hit so easily by the car, but thankfully they missed them, I don't really think it's possible to move every tree, powerpole or road sign that could be crashed into

FYI Concrete power poles are actually better... better than wooden ones, I had a mate whos car slide into and up the other side of a ditch and thru a concrete power pole that snapped. luckly he came out just dazzed.

For what it's worth, I was talking to a friend of a friend at a party a year or so back, he was studying engineering and looking at power and light poles.
The light post they use a lot around Auckland and elsewhere are thin-walled steel made in sections with an octagonal cross-section. They are designed to flex in the wind while remaining strong, but to basically give way under any level of localised lateral force (a car hitting it for example) - they just fold.
The concrete power poles that we see everywhere are similar. Designed to largly give way under impact, but for the steel retaining rods to support at least most of the weight of the remaining pole, to avoid powerlines coming down.
And then there's the motorway poles, which are attached to a hard set plate with bolts that are designed to shear in an impact. Although I hear they are still pretty unforgiving.
But unfortunately for us, I believe the that our mass, generally, is not enough to cause these helpful structures to give way for us if we hit them on our bikes. So, it's best we avoid them entirely.

He's dead. Whether he died doing something he liked or not is immaterial.
The beating or not of your heart has nothing at all to do with whether you bleed immediately after death or not. As for the friction evaporating the blood theory, puh-lease...
This dead gent was cut in half, presumably by the impact. Desanguination would have therefore been extremely rapid. Where the various body parts are assembled probably isn't the exact accident site.
Despite popular views, speed does not kill. Severe and sudden impact does.

To the speed kills/sudden impact kills thing, remember: It's not the fall that hurts/kills - It's the landing/sudden stop. Hitcher is absolutely correct. It could be photoshopped or it could be real, but at those speeds that sort of thing can and will happen.
Physics will help at this sort of thing. If you are doing 280kms an hour and you hit something that isn't moving, then you will keep travelling-at 280kms an hour. You can't change that sort of stuff, but you can prevent it from happening. That is to BE SAFE on the road or anywhere else for that matter.
If it's real then I really feel for the family and close friends of that guy.
As others have been saying, he's lucky he's dead.

Food for thought indeed...regardless of alleged photochoppery…
We are but squishy biological entities.
Our unaided bodies propel us to maximum speeds of maybe 30km/hr at full sprint (And that would be a fine human specimen on a good day = 12 second 100 metre time).
My humble guess is that sort of speed is what our bodies have evolved to cope with in a spill involving a sudden stop.
Faster + sudden deceleration = bad things happening.
(From memory the LTSA seat-belt simulators that used to travel around the schools in my day travelled at 7km/hr before coming to an abrupt halt - enough to prove a point.)
Makes one remember to kit up fully - even on short jumps to the corner shops etc. Dave at Motomail was relaying a story to me last weekend, about a young lady who had been purchased a scooter by her parents. She had gone there for the necessary accoutrements, saying 'I don't need gloves', and eschewing a full face helmet in favour of an open faced one. He suggested that she run as fast as she could full into the wall. Response was 'But I'll hurt myself!' Point duly made...(Naturally I paraphrase.)
Safe is good  Maintain that safety buffer KBers.
RIP those who remind us of these immutable facts by way of demonstration…:weep:

So I don't feel it's a speed issue! More a typical motorcyclists hazard.
I had a 50+ neighbour lived a few doors down, safe as rider - Slow arse 80's bike. Riding down the gorge, traffic accident, nose to tails, no one could stop, he crashed came off, truck behind still going 50 kph, straight over him - decapitated. Probably a messier scene!

By the looks the front of his hat has disappeared, as if he went chin first into the tree, either that or his hat is sitting in a pothole amongst the pile of flesh.
Reminds me of the Tom... someone incident in F1 back in Kylami '77. Guy hit a firemarshall at 200k, fire marshall spun into several hundred pieces in midair while the guy driving the car, Tom, took the fire extinguisher to the face. After his car then piled into the cars trying to take the next corner they got his lifeless body out of the car and his face looked much like this guys face. Needless to say neither survived.

Have you ever wondered what happens when a GSXR1000 goes from 280km to 0 in less than a second?
Dont look at these if you have recently eaten or are easily upset.
I don't know where it happened but damn there is a lesson in this.
