View Full Version : Who wants a Steelmate motorcycle alarm?
kneescraper
31st March 2007, 14:13
Hey all,
Through work I have access to a supplier that can supply motorcycle alarms, I have brought one my self and will install it on my RF this coming week. I will take photos of the install and report back on the alarm.
If any one would like one this is the place to put down a order.
Your looking at around $75 -$80 to your door, this comes with a 12month warrenty. Also if we get 5+ people wanting them the price drops around $10 or so dollars. There is no mark up on this....I think its important for us bikers to keep our bike safe.
Here is a link to my first post on this subject.

Spuds, quite easy.....Mounting is real easy, siren gets mount either by two bolts or double sided tape, the main unit is mount by double sided tape and there are 7 wires to solder in...all this is explained in the instructions.

Put me down for one too mate!
I haven't the foggiest idea how to install but there's no reason why a few of us in the same area can't take a few hours out of a day and get them done between us (hopefully!) hehe.
One question, the alarm activated would have little effect on battery to be any of a worry right? My bikes fairly old and I don't think it takes much to drain.
Either way put me on the list, if it's not suitable for my current bike then it will stick around for the next one!

Hey Mr Knees
It's arrived, thanks muchly!
Love the little remote, just point it at the bike and it's all armed.
If I can just figure out what to with the little grey box and the coloured wires etc, why do they put so much extra packaging in these box's? I presume I just put them in a corner somewhere out of the way........

The steel mate saved my bike, started screeming its head off so someone dumped it and jumped back in the van when someone pulled in behind them.
Witnesses got van details, police have been looking for it, stolen.
it works.
Fits well in my ZZR 400.

I'm just fitting one of these to my bike.
Anyone know what the ORANGE wire connects to? The wiring schematic (http://members.optusnet.com.au/sysoverride/jaycaralarm/revised.jpg) says ENGINE LOCK (+). Jaycar can't tell me.

3rd May 2008, 02:06
Ok. For anyone that's interested, the ORANGE wire is the tamper trigger. It needs to be hooked into the accessory circuit. If the ignition is switched on without the alarm being deactivated, the trigger sets the alarm off and immobilises the ignition system.
I'm quite impressed with this unit for it's price. The knock sensor is great - I had no falsing even from passing fart cannon-equiped cars, yet a gentle tap on the seat and the 3 warning beeps were issued. The remotes work at a fairly good distance too. The only thing I'd change would be the LED - the housing slides into a hole you drill, and the LED pushes into it from behind. The trouble it it doesn't lock so it can easily be pushed back out and depending on where it is positioned there may be some disassembly required to refit it. Easily solved though - use a bezel instead. The horn is quite ear piercing and loud too, and there is plenty of wire on the supplied loom. Oh, and the fuse for the 12V feed is in the wrong place - it's too far from the source. I recommend using another fuse adjacent to the supply (5A is enough).

This alarm just failed (the ignition immobiliser operated while on the SATNR last night between Twilight Road and Mill Road). It did it on the last SATNR I went on too, between Clevedon & Maraetai and has also been falsing occassionally for the last few months.
It's still under warranty, if I can find the receipt. I've by-passed the ignition immobiliser and that's the way it'll probably stay even if I do get a replacement.
