Fuck I am so angry.....I got cut off by a double decker bus yesterday crossing Fanshawe on Halsey street (Auckland) just by the Vodafone building. He simply moved into my lane without indicating or checking his mirrors, I hit the brakes hard and my back wheel locked up and down I went on the right side of my bike. If I hadn't braked so hard he would have hit me too! The bike slid for a fair while, as did I.
Whole right hand side of the bike is scratched and broken, my leather jacket saved me from the worst damage, but my boots are stuffed and I hit my head hard so the helmet's out of service too.
AAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH
I really love my bike and this just breaks my heart.
So I'm off to Colemans to see what the damage will be today and to psych myself up for dealing with my insurance company.

A double decker bus should be easy to find and burn...

Please do tell...
In my opinion a good way must be quick, discreet, and you must be able to get a fair distance away before the flames get really big and draw attention.

Don't take it out on the bus. Whoever was at the controls needs a wakeup call, not the poor machine. Glad you're ok and have the chance to get even through the proper channels. Spoken to the cops? The bus company?

 Crikey, glad to hear you are "okay" and able to post about your experience! Sounds like you need to do a ring a round and inform said parties of their actions. I'm sure your insurance company would like those details also! So bike is k-o for the duration?

Sorry to hear! Your bike was real nice and obviously well cared for! Hate to think the damage to mine in the same circumstances. Hope it can be fixed quickly and with out too much financial pain!

Bugger!! Glad you're not badly hurt - hope the bikes easy to fix and insurance co proves easy to deal with. You'd think professional drivers eg bus or taxi drivers would be better than the average driver......??

The bus did stop, the driver asked me if I was alright, I said yes and when I looked again he had buggered off. But it was a double decker tourist bus and luckily a lady working @ Vodafone witnessed the whole accident so I have the upper hand with my insurance company now at least.

Yip the bike is broken with a capital F, I'm sure it only needs a few things to make it rideable again but the majority of it is cosmetics. Probably out of action for a week or 3.

Sigh...
You and me both - I chucked it down the road in central Aucks yesterday too. Something seems to be in the air...
Hope you're still feeling OK. I got off lightly, but was still a bit 'ouchy' later in the day once bruising etc started to kick in...

make sure you let the bus company know so the driver can get a bollcking and you don't have to pay your excess. Good to hear you ok though!

Sorry to hear. What a bummer. I know what it's like to be the recipient of an errant driver. Right side of the bike too, with the pipes (ouch). Hope all turns out alright for you.

Having had a cage take me out on my harley about 3 blocks from your bin I sympathise and feel for you. In the ensuing court case (I was awarded $3k from the idiot cage driver) I found that eye witness was invaluable.
Regardless of the supposed sincerety at the getgo, by the time the driver lawyered up it looked like being very messy until that I pulled the witness out of my bag.
Take nothing for granted and get well soon!

It always pays to get the cops involved even if it is a small bin. I helps with the insurance co when they get the report and see that the other driver was given a ticket, in you case, for a unsafe lane change.
Just makes things easy

Sorry to hear about the bingle mate. What also concerns me is that a professional and possibly reputable bus company hasn't got clear guidelines for their drivers re accidents. I would be interested to know if the incident is recorded via a log book or incident report. If so the driver would need a fair bit of info on details of those involved including contact #'s etc.
I agree with the comments about getting as much detail from witnesses etc.
I bet the heavy traffic dept would also like to be informed of the bus drivers actions.
Chin up. The bike can be repaired. Most important is that you survived the ordeal.

Just want to say a big thanks you to everyone who has offered their support and kind words, goes to show that bikers are a really nice group of beer swilling, hell raising savages.
As far as insurance goes they are going to replace all the damaged parts and pay for everything to be fixed up nicely ($6500). :woohoo:
The bus driver did report the incident but as I expected he claims no responsibility for it. I have a witness who saw everything and supports my story so I'll let the insurance companies duke it out now. I'll have to pay an excess of $250 when I pick the bike up which isn't so bad for that claim. I had to do a seperate household contents claim for my riding gear so I don't know how much all of that is coming to yet.
So now I have to drive the cage to work and back which is so frustrating :(
Anyhow, I'm all healed up and looking forward to getting my baby back and maybe doing the odd upgrade or customisation while the bike is in the shop.
Once again, thanks everyone.
Cheers

If you have witnesses to back you up why are you paying excess? surely the bus driver/company has to pay up, not u?

Well I have to pay excess until they can prove that it wasn't my fault, so hopefully I'll be getting my money back at some stage.

Hence why I didn't say anything about his bike... I saw the profile pic of his bike and I must say, for a cruiser it didn't look half bad...

Big article in RIDE or something on the insurance industries love of replacing anything and everything vs repairing.
They tested their idea on a simple falling off stand accident on a MV
And there was a 3000 pound diffence, ie the insurance company replaced the scratched mirror, the repair guy took out a cloth and some polish and the scratch was gone in 5 mins and save a couple of hundred pound off the bat....
But hey your not paying
