View Full Version : I`m unemployed as well.

After 11yrs in the car industry I`m out. The plug got pulled on the yard I was managing as one of the two directors wanted out of our three yards we have, and as the lease was up with our premises it was us to lose. So that`s it, I enjoyed the money, I enjoyed the friendships I`ve made, but I`m sick of the hours which consist of weekend work and a day off during the week. Sold my gas-guzzling 4x4, bought a car for my wife to use, finished up all my bits and pieces, packed my bags and flew to Japan to meet up with my wife and 8mth daughter, whom I hadn`t seen for two months.
I`ve turned down job offers in the industry since, as they can`t offer what I want, ie my weekends. So I`m not sure what the future holds, other than some well deserved time off when we get back. Do some rides away (may even make it up to the Nth Island), spend some time with my family etc. We might even move to Japan next year for a year or two, just kicking ideas around at the moment.
All I am sure of is the fact I`m enjoying the feeling of nothing, no work, no deadlines, no pressures. Don`t get me wrong, I love working, and I thrive under presure, but sometimes you need to step back and let it all go past. Now is that time, and I`m loving it.
To those who knew of my situation, thankyou very much for the concern and offers of help, it was and is greatly appreciated.

OAB, I was going to say I'm sorry to hear of your hardship, BUT
it doesn't sound like much hardship to me lol
Enjoy the time with your family mate, no matter what is around the corner for you and yours I am sure that it will be good for you all.
If you happen to be up this way then give us a yell and we can meet up for dinner or a beer whatever.
All the best

Your positive attitude speaks volumes. The realisation that one always has options is truly liberating.

Wot she said!
(Cept for the unemployed bit)
You'll have no problem getting work I'm very sure! Maybe even with the company I work for if you want sales or admin. We're shifting to new premises and expanding this year. PM me for more info.

I know what you mean, I actually felt bad turning down those offers but it`s something I have to do. If I had said yes I`d be still it the same boat.
To everyone, thanks for the support. I`m going to have to work at this unemplyed thing, as it doesn`t sit right with me. I`m going to spend some time with my girls, but at the same time I`ll keep my options open. I`m used to working, and I`ve got a family and lifestyle to support so I`m sure it won`t be long. If it wasn`t for our branch closing down I`d still be turning up every day, this was just a catalyst for moving out of the car industry. I know I`ll miss it, I forged some very good friendships with a lot of industry contacts over the years, a lot of whom have offered me their stock to sell as a sideline thing, but I need to step back from auto sales completely. It`s like a drug, one little taste again and I`ll wind up being a full-time user again!

if you can sell cars (which i know you do a grand job at) you can do anything... just wait for the right opportunity to come along, the one with weekends off like most 'normal' people.
May not happen overnight, but it will happen...hehe... great saying that! The things we learn from advertising...doh. :sunny:
