Mate, I go to uni too. I also got your flyer. Now, being a university student -- unless of course you're doing Arts -- I'd expect you to be able to spell, and write in paragraphs.

To save me the embarrassment of saying I go to the same uni as you, would it really hurt so much to stop writing in TXT-speak, and use some capital letters? Makes it about 100x easier to read, and you don't look like a completely mindless twat.

Hey just been reading the posts because I have been away from technology over the weekend. Feeling a lot of (I wudnt say hate because that is a bit excessive) but if me writing in "txt speak" is such a problem for you then I shall endeavour to write in proper english. Being 20 years old and pretty much raised of the "mobile and msn generation" it has become a habit. However in an effort to be a better promoter of the club and be a positive representative I shall, as has been requested (albeit in a very rude manner), ween myself off this habit.

The club does not discriminate on the basis of how a person spells as we believe it is up to that person to decide what is easiest for them and, in saying this, the only requirement for joining this club is that you have a great attitude and want to meet other people that love riding as much as you.

On a side note it is great to see so much interest in the club. We are also trying to get some dealer sponsorships so that members may enjoy discounts on parts, accessories, servicing etc. at those particular dealerships. So if you are keen to join the club email me or leave me your contact details.

Cheers,
Nish.

Hey, sorry, didn't want to offend. I'm about your age too, but don't write like a 14 year old schoolgirl. There's no 160 character limit here that Spankme will charge you 20c extra if you go over. I guess the AIT slur was pretty harsh -- nobody wants to be compared to a AUT student :devil2:

Anyway it looks like a good thing to join -- there are a serious amount of students that ride bikes; and students tend to be a militant sort of lot so we should be a pretty strong lobbying force if they try to pull something like the `pedestrian mall' on us again. Thankfully that appears to be sorted in terms of parking, at least.

Good idea, starting this thing up. Can't believe it hasn't been done sooner.

bomma
9th April 2007, 22:47
Cheers mate and I agree on both counts. It hurts an awful lot to be compared to an AUT student (jokes :D) and I am also suprised that a club such as this has not come around earlier. This is my third year at university and every year I have kept my eyes open for a biker club. Its great to see the interest that we have been getting and hopefully this club becomes an institution for all bikers that study at Uni of Auck for many years to come.

Cheers,
Nish :)

P.S. thanks for pointing out the "txt speak" thing. I now realise that it does come off as being "like a 14 year old schoolgirl". I am trying my hardest to keep my messages/posts legible and hope that you will forgive me for any slips that may occur in my messages/posts in the future. :)

You'll get owned very soon if you keep talking in txt speak in this place.

I almost started a bike club last year but

couldnt be assed organising it
noticed most of the 'bikers' at auckland uni were half-assed wannabe's that dont go further than grey lynn/ponsonby and mostly ride scooters
i already knew the 'real' bikers from talking on here
my idea of a ride is long twisty roads and only stopping for gas and food, not latte runs like magneto's tend to do.

in saying that, good on you for doing it, dont expect too much from it, and try not to give us a bad reputation!

First of all thankyou. Starting up this club is indeed a great idea (although the real credit should go to Dan Walker the president of the club and the genius behind its start). Secondly, and I don't mean to judge but, I believe that the only way to really find out what will happen is to actually give it a try. In saying that the bikers at university are "half-assed wannabe's" and that we shouldn't expect too much is a tad over the top. You never know what people are capable of until you acutally put them in a position where they have to act. Such generalisations are the reason progress is halted.
I reckon that this club will be AWESOM and that since you hafnt actually started or been part of this biker club, you shall never know what it will truly be like. My suggestion to you friend is that you join and find out first hand before making up your mind about what it will be like. The most you will lose is $3 (and i know it's a large amount of money for us poor uni students but I'm sure there's a bank just waiting to approve you an interest-free overdraft ;)).

cheers,
Nish. :)

Hey guys n' gals!! We are having our first general meeting at 4pm this Sunday, the 15th of April at the parking lot opposite the Burger King at Mission Bay. Membership is just $3 for a year so come along and join up now!! You are welcome to bring all your mates too, whether they want to join or just want to have a good time.

And R6 Kid I agree with you about the name of the club!! It is a bit weird and could be better. You obviously have some ideas so if you want to make a difference join the club and bring your concerns forward and we will gladly work with you on them and see if we can reach a compromise. ;)

No probs mate. Like I said the real thanks should go to Dan Walker. We really hope this club gets off to a flying start and only gets bigger. Can't wait till Sunday to see just what the turnout will be like and hoping and praying like hell that the weather turns out perfect (better than the last couple of days anyway). Bring all your mates and sorry Phurrball no cars, no matter how small their engines!!

Cheers,
Nish. :)

P.S. I started off on an Fxr 150, and there are a couple of people with them in the club, and may I just say that they are an exceptional bike to start out on and i loved mine (the extra amounts of love due to the fact that it was my first bike).

hey guys,
as the weather was very "iffy" the meeting has been postponed to next Sunday, the 22nd of April. I would like to thank all those who made the effort to come along anyway!! Its great to see the commitment and thanks for sticking around with me. Would have been a boring hour for me if I had to wait round for stragglers by myself :) Hope to see the whole crew there next weekend and anybody else that is interested.

By the looks of things this club is going to be awesome!!!

Hey guys 'n gals.
I hope everyone had a great weekend and the weather was AMAZING! The club is slowly growing and we are getting more interest from bikers so this is great! I will be in-charge of the bike runs as I am the only committee member with a bike and the other 2 fullas are in-charge of the scooter runs.

I am aware that these last few weeks and the next week are going to be hectic for those of us still at uni (holiday was more like a study break). So we had the brilliant idea of having a bike run to a currently un-decided location on a Thursday evening, being the 3rd of May. Hopefully most of us will be temporarily finished with assessments and can come along!

As the location is currently undecided, I am open to any suggestions that you guys may have. If you have a good route or a favourite run then give me a buzz or an email. We will consider everyones' requests.

Cheers,
Nish. :)

P.S. Please do not be shy about getting in touch with me and letting me know if you are not able to make any event. If we do not have enough people that can go then we will just postpone it to a more suitable date!!!

Haha I find it really funny that R6 Kid is going out of his way to make this bike club look like a joke! Mate I have nothing against you (and in saying this I speak on my own behalf, and not on behalf of the club or any members in it) but with an attitude like yours I would be glad if i never saw you or met you. Furthermore if you think you would gain nothing out of this club then you simply DO NOT have to join. I see no point in having someone like you in a club full of bike ENTHUSIASTS.

I also know that $3 is a lot of money. Heck if I had $3 I would quit my day job (or buy 3 sausages if there was a barbie on at uni). So if you really don't think you can afford it then I encourage you to stop posting on this thread and advise you to join a club that is free and save your $3 for petrol.

You also say, and I quote, "i dont see what i would gain from joining the AU club". What I do not understand is what you gain from posting up threads about a club that you are obviously not going to be a part of and so obviously do not care too much for. I find this quite puzzling as I usually just forget about things that do not matter to me as opposed to continually interacting with the subject matter. *shrug* Having said this, I do not wish to hear your justification nor do I care too much as to what the reason might be.

Hope you have a goodnight. Ride safely.

Cheers,
Nish. :)

P.S. I do not mean this post to be hateful but simply informational for R6 Kid. I am merely offerring him/her alternate options for the problems that he/she brought up in his/her post.

Sori mate (R6 Kid), I didn't mean half the stuff I said there. I'm a firm believer in "if you don't have anything nice to say" but it had been a very VERY long day and I let that post get to me. I agree that you have your own opinions and they differ to mine but there are a lot of things you could gain from joining this club, and I would appreciate it heaps if you would refrain from posting up negative comments about the club (a request not a threat).
Would love to have a one-on-one chat with you just to clarify any questions you may have and try to understand where you are coming from.
I would gladly remove the post upon your request (have not done so just as a reminder to me of what could happen if i let stupidity get the better of me).

Hey guys,
the 3 committee members (Dan, Phil and myself) had a long chat the other night just trying to get some stuff sorted and this is what we got:

1) Organising membership cards.
2) Hopefully have the final discussions with a dealer this weekend and have their backing. As the club grows we'll approach more dealers and broaden our network.
3) There is a ride being organised on Sunday by a club member so email me or txt me and let me know if you want more details and ill email them to you.
4) We are having a sign-up post set-up outside the gym coming wednesday and hopefully we'll catch all the bikers that park on Symonds St.
5) Oh and most importantly we talked about a name change as MADSAM was not sitting well with people. We basically shortened it to SMC (Scooter and Motorbike Club) but if there are any suggestions please bring them forward.

Cheers,
Nish. :)

Where abouts will this ride be taking place? Mt Eden Motorcycles are pretty good if you're still looking for a dealer, they looked after me anyway. What did you want from them anyway, just cheap deals in exchange for waving their name around?

Hey Courtney,
yea Mt Eden motorcylces is next on the list. We are basically going to try and cover the major makes (Honda, Kawa, Suzuki and Yamaha) so that all our members are able to enjoy the benefits of being in the club. We are going to try and get the whole shabang from the dealers. Discounts on parts, accessories, servicing/repairs and maybe even on new bikes in ex-change for advertising and also customer loyalty, ie. that we will send our members there (and who wudn't want to go there if they can get service at discounted prices!!)
Hope that answers your question. I will forward you the details of that ride and you can go along if your keen. Have fun and ride safe.

Cheers,

Never ever taken compsci111, not even considered it. Compsci101 was piss easy. As for Phil101.... well, I shamefully do admit to taking it myself! :gob:

But only because I was bored at the time, so thought it "fun" to enroll in a couple of papers during summer school. By "taking physics further" you mean majoring in it? If so, then you might need to almost major in maths while your about it.... Certainly if you want to get into the quantum physics papers. In fact, in that case you really can not have too much maths!

Have you thought about taking Maths208 during summer school? You might find it to be a very good idea, to help yourself catch up. I think it is terrible that students "nowadays" can finish first year only having done one maths paper (even worse if it is 108!). Is totally shocking if they are meant to be maths and/or physics students too!

Is totally shocking if they are meant to be maths and/or physics students too!

My "little" brother (unfortunately... he is "a few" millimeters taller than I am) is taking Physics 150. Tallish guy (6' 5"), has a camo backpack.

Cheers for the advice mate. It's so much fucking work though! So far I've done virtually no work for 108, just trying to go by from what I learned in maths102 (which I never went to lectures for and got by from what I learned in school... still got a B+ though). I reeeaaally have to get a good work ethic cos I just keep falling behind and by the time it comes to the end of the semester i cant be bothered studying for the exams so I don't go, hence why I'm doing stage one papers for the third semester :(

Hopefully I'll move onto stage 2 next semester if I can get my arse into gear.

But I'm an abnormality, not really sure how I got my degree without doing anything. And I wouldn't at all advise doing that. I really wish myself I could have gone back in time and worked harder, then I could have carried on with this to a much higher level. And done some stuff I'd have really liked. Physics certainly is a lot of work (watch out for those lab reports in second and third year! Though I believe it has become a lot less work than it used to be), possibly a slight error in hindsight doing heaps and heaps of physics. But was lots of fun. Oh well, it all turns out good in the end. I'm going to be starting an amazingly great job in another week, so life is great.

Hey guys 'n gals.
The ride down to coro was AWESOME!!! Cheers to Stephen for organising it and to Dimi, Ehab and Kim for coming along! That CBR900 is a bloody nice machine and you've kept her in mint condition Kim! The weather also turned out mint (almost like it was waiting for us to get on our bikes before it cleared up) and its a pity the mountains were drenched and we couldn't complete the loop. My ass is definately the sorest part of my body right now!

For those of you who missed out for whatever reasons we are organising a shorter ride for the coming weekend so if you are keen give me a buzz and I'll try and get details out to you asap! It'll be mean if we had some big numbers for next weeks ride and hopefully the weather is great and we'll have another day like today!

Cheers,
Nish. :)

Can you call ur self "AUCKLAND UNI MOTORCYCLE GANG" or "HELLS ANGLES WANNABES"

Or somthing hard kore like that yo

Hey man,
if it were upto me I'd name the club something like "Eat my Tail Light You Stupid Car" Club or "Processed Fish Also Sits in a Tin Can" Club!! (If only every person in the city rode 2-wheelers then we'd have no traffic!!) And i really REALLY don't want to get my legs broken by any of the Hell's Angels or any other biker gang who's name might seem fit to be used. Plus i reckon SMC sounds cool. Kinda just rolls off the tongue.

Cheers,
Nish. :)

P.S. and by two-wheelers i mean 2-wheelers with engines! (big-ups to those of you who cycle places but wish you didnt stop traffic so much :P)

The ride was great. The twist and bend from Thames to Coromandel was superb. We were all hard out keeping up with one another. My wrist are still sore but would go for this ride again. Perhaps may I suggest making it a 2 day trip next time round. Cheers guys

On a different note, the sign-up stand tommorrow is (as some of you may have already guessed) dependant on the weather. Todays weather has been awesome so far and hopefully it continues over to tommorrow. If the weather is shite, we will most likely abandon it this Wednesday and setup on a different day.

worked the clutch so hard that the cable is pretty rooted, have ta pick up the new one tomorrow, as for my chain, it'll last this weekend then its time for the new one... ah, the expense of having a bigger bike

Hey guys n gals.
Our stand was a massive success and we got more than 50 people that signed up on Wednesday alone!! That takes us to a club size of more than 80!! How awesome is that?!?!?!

We also going to go have talks with the guys from Wild West Honda on Saturday and hopefully walk out with a smile :) Dan has talked to Red Baron and they also sound keen and I just had a chat with Chris from Motomail and he's keen too!! Wata bunch o' great guys aye ;)

There is also a ride on this weekend on Saturday down to Kaiaua for some fish n chip n back. This ride is much shorter than the Coro loop and is much more learner (and ass and wrist) friendly but still has some wicked corners! Meet outside the gym on Symonds St at 11.30 for 11.50 departure. Im hoping for a good turnout as the weather is supposed to be mean this weekend (fingers crossed).

Cheers,
Nish. :)

P.S. Thanks to all the guys who turned up on Wednesday and kept us company by the stand! You know who you are and let me say that you guys made the day a lot more fun!

Always a good idea before you start to make sure your lights and brakes work, and check the oil and the petrol.

Do a scan of your bike for any missing or loose nuts that need tightening.

The rest you can get from the service manual about what checks to do re oil changes and tuning etc. If you don't have a manual it is worth getting one.

As to your clutch cable have you lubed it recently? Does it look frayed on the inside or rusty, and is it snagging at all? It may just need a lube or adjusting.

cheers Kim for getting the pictures up and bringing a camera!! Just like Kim said, it was a beautiful day and thanks HEAPS to all the riders that came along! I had heapsa fun and I know that everyone who came did as well. Special thanks to Maverick (the guide and lead pack head), Stephen (guy hus idea it was to have the ride and second pack lead) and Justin (for being the tail-end charlie and making sure nobody died).

We had a chat with Don Clark at Wild West Honda this morning and he loved the idea of backing this club so much that he have offered a 10% discount for members on parts, services, apparel etc. (basically everything but bikes) which is AWESOME!! We will also be working closely with them so that we can get members along to some of their organised events such as Basic Servicing/Maintenance Lessons and Learner Days.

Don has also offered us great ideas about other organisations that we could get in touch with so we are getting onto that too. Thanks Don.

Members will also recieve free High-Visibility vests to wear (if they choose to) courtesy of ACC, who were wooed by Dan Walker's charm and smooth talkin'. What a President aye!! We have 150 vests so if you want one get in touch with one of us and we will arrange a pick up or drop off.

Cheers,

Good to see so many bikers out there pootling along - and the drooling over the usual bike porn was a given. Fair took my breath away to see another little ol'Hornet on the ride! :woohoo:

Big ups to everyone for making sure it was a fun-filled and safe event, though I thought that luvverly Duc being laid down at our BP stop gave me pause (there but for the grace of God go I... :innocent: :sweatdrop)

Good to see people riding within their comfort and capabilities (no auditioning for Crusty Demons like me!) Good formation discipline and no crazy yahoo antics - I'll put in another mention again here about the life saving head checks.

They are called life saving for a reason! 'Nuff said :msn-wink:

I think some of these members are mad enough to join me on one of my ubiquitous "pootles" Muwahahahha! :devil2:

Heya mate, Yea I'm about 5'8" with long light brown hair but I don't have a moustache.... only have a goatee part under my chin. You'll be able to recognise me cos I'll have a leather biker jacket on with some sort of metal shirt underneath and black jeans black boots etc... oh, and I'll be carrying my park rack bag around aswell. Come say hello if ya see me!

Yea, I put the helmet up on my mirror but I mustn't have put it on right cos it fell off to hit the concrete. There's no crack it it, just a couple of marks, but I'd rather not risk it and just pay the $150 for a new one.

Ducatis are meant to be ridden - and the odd drop is part and parcel of riding a bike.

for example I shot down the southern motorway today and courtesy of one of those big quarry trucks I collected a stone on the front of my helmet. Thought that was it until I discovered my left indicator had copped one too. So my Ducati has got a left indicator held together with Super Glue.

Not too unhappy - if I'm gonna ride it shit is gonna happen - even to a Ducati.

Hay no warys the Ducati is just fine  , not one scratch on it. He was by the looks of it a very experianced rider, wich shows that things like that can hapen to any one at any time, the only damege was the bent foot brake level and as he sade he dosnt need no rear braks :gob: "ha". but on this note do take care when your riding or even parking and allwys get off your bike from the lift side.

Hey all,
theres a Scooter run on tomorrow that has been organised by Dan Walker (El Presidante). Here are the details so go along and check it out.

Cheers,

SCOOTER & MOPED CRUISE!

OK! Guys n' gals! It's time for the groovy scooter & moped people to come together, meet up and go for a ride. We'll start with a cruise from Auckland Uni down to Quay Street mobil, Gas up, if anyone needs to, then from Mobil to Bastion Point to park up and have a chat, check out eachothers rides, then over to Mission Bay (carpark opposite movepick/de-fontaine – where the zebra crossing is) for a feed of fish n chips, where we can take it and eat on the grass over in the carpark, (its buy your own for now),and some more chatting, then back along the waterfront to the Uni. All in all, the cruise, feed and talks etc should be about 2-3 hours. Some of us have powerful scooters that can take on Evo's & porsches, while many of us can barely pull away from a bus. So the cruise will be nice and safe, at about 50kmh just about everywhere, we will cruise at the fastest speed the not so quick scooters can go, that way we can enjoy the company and the scenery.

We are going to meet up outside the Uni Gym on Sysmonds Street departing at 11.30am where I can brief everyone of what to expect & road etiquette, then cruise down to Quay street along to mission bay & park up at the car-park opposite movepick/de-fontaine where the zebra crossing is.
So – Scooter Cruise – All Scooters, Mopeds & Motorbikes welcome! – also open to anyone not yet a member of SMC!..hehe

When: Sunday 13th May 2007
Depart From: Symonds Street outside the Uni Gym
Time: 10.30AM
WARNING: If the weather is bad, the cruise is cancelled. We are counting on nice weather ïŠ
See you there! –

there will be a reminder during the week, with this email going out to the 52 members signed up on Wednesday,

Dan Walker
SMC President

It has been aaaaaages since the club has done anything but im sure that we have all been busy with exams and assignments and things!! Hope everyone is going well in their exams and not stressin too much. Remember that there is always next semester ;)
There is a ride being organised by Stephen Dodge (no longer has his GSX750 but has moved on to a TL 1000 i hear). For more information give me a buzz or an email or if you already know me just stop me around uni and have a chat. Or just wait a couple more days and ill put up the info here. I think its on this Saturday (the 22nd) but will verify and let y'all know. Stay safe and dry.

Cheers guys,

P.S. it has been freezin over the last couple of days and i think its going to continue so dress warm. Stupid Auckland weather :P

Good to see that there is a new version of this club. Some years ago when I was doing my postgrad stuff, I ran advanced rider tuition days for the then Auckland Uni Motorcycle Club at Baypark Raceway. If you're interested, I could do something similar - would probably need to be done in conjunction with one of the trackday organisers.

But that was just a snide joke at the expense of AUT students. Nothing shits an AUT student more than referring to their university as AIT (its name before it became a proper qualified university). Trust me, try it in a student bar some time!

I know things have been really quiet and its great to see that everyone has been keen on rides!! And I know that we were hoping to get HEAPS in during these holidays but our lovely weather has prevented us from doing so!! Instead of giving up though we are going ahead and will try and get out this saturday (the 7th).
It was a great inspiration when I met the Rotorua branch of the Eulysses fullas when they were out in absolutely horrible conditions so im keen to have a slow cruise if the weather is anything but a hailstorms and hurricanes!!

Probably meet out next to the university gym on Symonds St saturday round 10am and decide where people want to go and such and then head off.
