The sweet, sweet music of open headers would suffice.

Surely music pumping through earphones under a helmet would rather distract one from the usual task at hand, namely not running into a tree or getting squished.

But rather than open headers, I think a tuned race zorst at about 10k rpm would be better (although the V-twin sounds nice on closed-throttle deceleration...)

Very right! I have tried it before and I just ended up riding way too aggressively and my emotions where all over the place because of the music. I guess it would be nice to have music when cruising for long distances at 110 on the motorway though...

Wouldn't that be open header on a fxr150? :Pokey:

I guess some music would help filter out the screams of pedestrians on my typical commute.

Nearly rode up on the footpath around traffic the other day.

haven't ridden the cbr down any stairs yet though.

I think I need a supermotard for commuting.

I made a pedestrian scream one time. Quite worrying it was, but a bystander said, "Nah- she must be alright; she's making enough noise!"

The howl of an in-line four as it races from 7,000rpm to the redline. The burble of an in-line four as it decelerates hard and then the howl as you go back hard on the power...

That, and Abba's Dancing Queen...

Um... err... I've only ridden around the traffic onto the footpath a few times. And once there was insufficient room to the left of the leftmost motorway lane, so I had to ride on the bit beside the motorway. Y'know - the unsealed bit where there's about a 75mm lip that's hard to ride back up. Eventually I got back on the sealed bit. I figured there was probably no-one at the HP headquarters watching me. And anyway, I wasn't speeding or technically overtaking on the left, as I wasn't on the road...

I run my Thunderbird open headers sometimes, capped exhausts rock!!

If we ran our bikes open headers as well don't think the neighbours would be to happy.

Cruise to heaps of different stuff in the cars, way to much to list.

I dunno I seem to get silly songs stuck in my head whilst riding

Example:
"Heading out to the Highway, I got nothing to lose at all, Heading out to the Highway, -Take a chance before I fall, a chance, before, I falllllll."
Judas Priest. I try to clear that one out as I don’t want to tempt fate.

There’s another song by the Cult ‘Rain’. Again for the same reason. . .

Problem is the driving guitar is so persuasive.

Then when you try to get something different in you greymatter soundtrack you can’t think of anything, or only 2 verses & the tempo is wrong.

Still not convinced, but they're your ears.

I'm not comfortable wearing a helmet without earplugs, and I've played drums for 25 years, amplified and acoustic. While we're on the topic, how come sound engineers are utterly incapable of providing a decent vocal mix to any monitor I've ever had the displeasure of sitting next to?? ;)

If you're going to play with shit drummers with no technique or social skills then that's what happens.

Very simple trick that works for any noisy situation. Don't turn up, turn down. Works every time.

Ah come on now, there's definitely room for a bit of subtlety with your music...

Not every album has to be 4/4 riff-orientated head thumping driving rock. Although it helps ;)

Actually, my music taste is very wide. I just like radiohead. Ed O'Brien is one of the most original and versatile guitarists out there.

And for sheer emotive energy is pretty hard to go past a track like "Bones"

Actually, my favourite band of all time is Jane's Addiction.

You're spot on there Jim.

A consistent trait with every exceptional drummer I have every played with is their request that everyone turn down.

As for dummers with technique AND social skills. That's always been a tricky one...

Nice Stuff Devil. If I'm not mistaken that's a very tasty 8 x 10 inch Ampeg stack there too - always loved the sound of those - more punch than the equivalent Gallien Kruger 8 x 10's.

I reckon you would have had that Alex Van Halen bottom end sound sussed with that rig.

Is that a Musicman bass?

My live setup was 2 1987 Marshall 50W heads (the 80's version of the JTM45 plexi head), with the 2 channels bridged together, running either side of the stage for stereo. I had the amps switched to 220v to run a bit hot, and they each went into 1960A & B cabinets (slant and square fronts).

Guitars were a 1988 Gibson Les Paul Custom with a 1975 Maple Top Gibson Les Paul Standard for backup, going to the amps trough a Roland Boss GT-3 running in stereo, with an external Tube Screamer (brown mod) and Dunlop wah.

Metalhead heaven.

I've downgraded now to just the Les Paul Custom, GT-3 and 1 Marshall Head and 1 cabinet. Still pretty loud, especially in the gargre.

Heh yeah thats a Musicman Stingray5. Actually just selling it now as I dont play anymore (Offers anyone? $2800? mint condition, come on, help a man pay off his motorbike).

The main rig I ended up with in the end was that bass, with the Ampeg 8x10, a Peavey CS1000X power amp and a Sansamp PSA-1 preamp. Love the sansamp/musicman combo. Enormous punch. Blew a few practice room lightbulbs by shaking the filaments to pieces ;)

My ideal rig would have been that bass, the sansamp but with a Mesa Boogie Bass 400+ (mmm 500watts of tube bass amp!) with maybe a mesa 8x10. The Ampeg 8x10 sounded great *most* of the time, but sometimes its a bit heavy on the low mids, especially with the stingray.
Just like Christian Olde Wolbers from FearFactory :D (well minus the bass anyway).

Currently I’m on a Bluegrass kick… Del McCoury Band’s version of Richard Thompson’s ’52 Black Lightening’ is something to behold!!!! Possible the best motorcycle song ever apart from the Rockabilly great….

BLACK DENIM TROUSERS AND MOTORCYCLE BOOTS
(Jerry Leiber - Mike Stoller)
THE CHEERS (CAPITOL 3219, 1955)

He wore black denim trousers and motorcycle boots
And a black leather jacket with an eagle on the back
He had a hopped-up 'cycle that took off like a gun
That fool was the terror of Highway 101
Well, he never washed his face and he never combed his hair
He had axle grease imbedded underneath his fingernails
On the muscle of his arm was a red tattoo
A picture of a heart saying "Mother, I love you"
He had a pretty girlfriend by the name of Mary Lou
But he treated her just like he treated all the rest
And everybody pitied her 'cause everybody knew
He loved that doggone motorcycle best
He wore black denim trousers and motorcycle boots
And a black leather jacket with an eagle on the back
He had a hopped-up 'cycle that took off like a gun
That fool was the terror of Highway 101
Mary Lou, poor girl, she pleaded and she begged him not to leave
She said, I've got a feeling if you ride tonight I'll grieve
But her tears were shed in vain and her every word was lost
In the rumble of his engine and the smoke from his exhaust
He took off like the devil, there was fire in his eyes
He said, I'll go a thousand miles before the sun can rise
But he hit a screamin' diesel that was California-bound
And when they cleared the wreckage, all they found...
Was his black denim trousers and motorcycle boots
And a black leather jacket with an eagle on the back
But they couldn't find the 'cycle that took off like a gun
And they never found the terror of Highway 101

That line…

“He had a hopped-up 'cycle that took off like a gun
That fool was the terror of Highway 101”

Bwahahahaha! Great stuff…

If I was going to suffer listening to Eric Clapton it would be something old or up to Derek and the Dominos era….

They spend the next 50 years saying, "I feel I must apologise for how slow BMWs were in ze war".
Ahahahahaha
Go Jim!

After all, what is it that all great bands have in common? A great rhythm section! What is it more than anything else that cements a band's sound? The rhythm section.

Bands that would be nothing without their rhythm sections include:
The Rolling Stones
U2
Bob Marley & The Wailers
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
Queen
Dire Straits
Fleetwood Mac
AC: DC
Deep Purple
Alien Ant Farm
Police
... You get the picture...

I dunno....

Fleetwood Mac was shite without Peter Green...

The Police without Sting??? (actually, even with him they were terrible)

Yes, but any monkey can whack on a drum set. It's just a matter of feeding them enough bananas before studio sessions.

Haaah! raises the hackles on my neck too :)

You should try it on my Mk2. It's LOUD, was not fitted with air filters from the factory (has little pods now) and has a C/R straight cut gearbox. Diving down through the top 3 gears makes a sound (to the rider) like a pack of hungry WW2 spitfires that atr raw meat for breakfast and gravel for morning tea. It would put a horn on a jellyfish.....

Stuff that potato potato thing... (hhhmmmm - stuffed potatoes - drool)

Give me grarrraaaawwwwwwwwlllllllllllrrrrooooommmmmsnnnaar rrllllllggraunchvarroooommmm anyday

yeah, an excellent album alright! i did forget the motorhead cd which is definately ol' skool hard rock at least, if not heavy metal itself.
love to cruise with 'solid music', soft crap kills the spirit i believe.

Peter Green!! :)

Now there's a blues man for cruzin' too. Just got two of his albums Little Dreamer and

In the Skies.

There's a way to keep the dark from the light
there's away to take the cold out of the night
and when I see it's glow
the sun and moon are shadowed
by the everlasting day

When I reach up my hand
to the loving son of man
the bread of life will keep my soul alive

There's a place where rivers flow in the street
where fruit and healing leaves are seen on a tree
where emerald walls shine clear
and golden streets run far and near
behind the gates where his angels name appears

And he will wipe away the tears from our eyes
and we watch this old world fade as it dies
and a new one shall come
and it will be heaven
and it is waiting for us there in the skies

I haven't tried listening to music while riding my bike yet. I used to love listening to music when driving the car (now sold), there's nothing like it when you're in the right mood and the right track comes on the radio, or you find the right one on a tape.
Maybe I'll get some new headphones for my dodgy old walkman and give it a go. I wish I had one of those flash memory mp3 player things...

Fav peice of music at the moment is "Love on the rocks with no ice" by The Darkness. :niceone: Although I don't think I'd ever listen to music while I was riding I kinda get distracted by it and can find it quite emotive.

ok, sorry to deviate from this thread a little bit, but would people like to share what their favourite jingles are to dance to???, Me it would have to be fast blues, like staus quo, george thorogood and some eric clapton, mind you I don't mind a bit of head banging heavy rock either for that matter. So what say you fullahs?
