For all those who didn't pick Levin as your Easter holiday destination of choice, here's what you missed tonight! There has been a balloon festival here at Easter for the past three years and on the Saturday night they have a night glow. Here are some photos from tonight's event.
The one with the upside-down face is Humpty Dumpty.

I'm not sure if the balloonists who arrive for the event (who come from as far away as the USA - the Humpty Dumpty balloon) offer flights, but you can book balloon flights over Levin and in other places like the Wairarapa. I'm not sure of the cost now, but when I enquired a year or so ago it was $275 per person, for between 20-45 minutes (it depends on the weather conditions). More of course if you want a champagne flight.
It was certainly spectacular although I think they should have had the balloons spread out a little more because a few were crowding out the ones next to them and you couldn't see all of them from one spot.
We missed it last year as we had rescued two Swedish motorcyclists and after realising we weren't going to get their bike going that night, we got into town about 7pm and there was only one or two balloons left inflated. This year we got there about 6pm and didn't miss a thing.

It's not all at Levin. Similar action up here.
The grass gowing event at Elerslie this afternoon will get my attention and then after I'll be enchanted by the colours of the paint drying in the stairs. Excitement all round.
Lovely photos.
