For all the shit stirring bunfights, angst, bitching and needling that occasionally passes for a forum round here - you gotta admit this place is pretty damn good. I was out at Riffer's place yesterday while he helped me change my fork oil and generally tidy them up. We had a slight problem (being noobs) with trying to get the bottom bolt out... so what to do? After trying all that our poor little brains could come up with we thought we'd zip into town and pick up the spare forks I had and rebuild one to replace the one we thought was stuffed. Nice pillion trip only to find they are a different model to mine (they fit Riffer's bike though). Hmmm... Ah!! Ring someone... 1st call Frosty - no answer, 2nd call MDU (on his birthday) - no answer, 3rd call White Trash - no answer.... Ooo-er 4th call Shaun Harris - "Hello" Woohoo! The right advice from the right man.
All of that story aside, what a great place we have here! When you can call one of the top guys in NZ racing and suspension and ask him why we're unable to get something undone. No talking down to us - just a straight answer. The same goes for a lot of other people on here - they'll help just because it's the right thing to do. I've got my bike back on the road for less than $500 when it should have cost thousands - thanks to people who know people or skills that people here have.
So thanks firstly to Spankme for providing the conduit that this community flows through and secondly to you. Yep you - even if I haven't met you yet. YOU are what makes this place great.Thanks.
::edit:: And for all you thinking I may be getting a little soft and fluffy in my old age - c'mere, I got a cuddle for ya!

Gosh... :gob: what have you been on this morning Col? Been hitting that DOT4 fluid again?
Nah, all good mate - you've just put it into words what most of us feel and think about ol'KB.
It's like that in-bred cousin no-one talks about, but do talk about! It's all fun and games until it sometimes comes back to bite you on the arse (if it's that in-bred cousin, I suggest a course of treatment for rabies might be well advised! :msn-wink:)
Now... where did I put that strait jacket of mines to put Col into the loony bin?

Too right, amongst the piles of brown quite a few gems shine out.
I joined about 3 years ago hoping to find someone out there that new about my bike at the time (still got it too :Punk: ) with the hope of some advice as it was not that common. What I found was great people, happy to help, and when they couldn't- put me onto someone who could.
That was 2004, and it has only got better

Well said Col, and so very true.
I reckon at times, I'd have given riding up after the first week if it hadn't been for a few mad KB folk dragging my newbie butt out on insanely wet rides and teaching me the joys of abstract bug splatter art on my visor!

Aint it the truth- for a few minutes to register, you get access to thousands of stories, advice, bike tests, and all the good buggers who've been there and done it first who'll share the good word
Thanks Spankme

I have always been impressed by the depth of knowledge and erudition found on this site, and the, sometimes poignant, insightful sensitivity.
Most on-line petrolhead sites are either unmitigated anorak, or inarticulate gibbering , extending to no interest beyond, respectively, the gudgeon pin thickness of a 1957 Pifflemobile, or how fast the author went last night, how drunk he got , and how he gave the pigs the finger
Whereas KB , at its best moments , presents an eclectic weltgeist which encompasses and comprehends a unique extent of spiritual, philosophical and sociological personae.
I know of no other like it.
We's special.
EDIT: How long until we get to talking about beer?

That's just motorcyclists in general. It's not unique to the brand. (was kinda my original point)
Ixion
8th April 2007, 11:58
True. But the particularity which KB brings, and which was what the Op alluded to is that through this cyber-medium motorcyclists throughout the country are able to interact and exchange information and opinion.
Whereas , when I started riding, one might know well perhaps a dozen local riders, and occasionally exchange a word with a few more, but by and large one's interaction was limited to local riders. KB extends the community that once was limited to the local cafe or pub to the entire country.
Speaking of pubs, leads onto beer .............

Yep, we are just off for a ride, we like to see other bikers about but the ones we consciously seek out most are KB'rs.
Not members, more like a big family of people where the common denominator is "motorcycles" and anything else just progresses from there.
Proud to be a KB user. Cheers John.
PS: Colapop can you keep that hug on hold till we are next in the north, put in the fridge it might keep OK in there.

Thing is I'm fiercely independent. Tattooed that way. It rancours slightly that by posting on a web site it's often assumed that I belong to a group or represent it.

What by then all the newbies had been initiated? Any young fellah can go fast enough on a 250 if he just holds the throttle open hard enough for long enough eh and the road to Lake Ferry is pretty straight! Of course no one went over 100 all day coz its against the law and the learners wouldn't go over 70.
