Hi guys and gals
Just to inform you all that the Bluebridge ship santa regina has installed extra tiedown points for bikes there is now 14 in total :Punk:
13 when my bike is onboard :innocent:
those of you who have a colour perfence there is both pink and yellow ones...
as for tie down straps best to bring your own and two is more than enough you can also get away with just carrying 1 tie down strap with side stand down
and if you are keen to be first of the boat have your front wheel facing inboard makes for quickier get away and gets you ahead of the cage race
and feel free to come say hi you will find me in the galley just ask for bazz
have fun and smooth sailings too all :sunny:

Hi dogs....thanks for the good advice you gave me a few weeks ago re securing bikes on the BB ferries. The Santa Regina was GREAT, heaps of shackles to easily secure front and rear of the bikes and we were let on first and off first. Didn't have the same experience with the Monte Stello though. Out of the 6 bikes on board, 2 were put in the space that seemed to be allocated for bikes, with adequate tie down points (the rest of that space had a car in it). 2 bikes were squeezed into a space right next to them but had no railings to secure to. The other 2 bikes were put on the inside wall of the ramp and could only secure to the side railings - there were no shackles and the chocks wouldn't stay in place behind the back wheels....dodgy. All six bikes on board were there early, so we couldn't understand why a car was plonked in the space where there are good shackles and railings, and four bikes were put in spaces that didn't have adequate tie down points. I guess this is the fault of the loading crew? Anyway, just a point to note, otherwise the sailings were great, good facilities on board, and we would use Bluebridge again. Cheers

Good ol' Monty also lost power when bething a few months back and drifted from the basin towards Oriental Bay in fairly strong winds, before regaining propulsion and making her way back under her own steam. They captain was unsure whether they would be able to get the engines back before they ran aground on Ori Bay, so a tug was scrambled.
But it didn't get to the newspapers.

Bluebridge have fixed fares of $99 each way....$50 for the bike and $49 for the passenger (rider).

It didn't make any sense to us to put a car in the bikes space, when there was a big empty area of car spaces where they put two of the bikes. I suggest getting there really early and specifically ask to be put in a bike space with proper floor D shackles (on the left off the ramp where you will see ropes and tie downs hanging). Perhaps try talking to the crew quickly if you aren't happy where they direct you to.
We took two of our own tiedowns for each bike and used their ropes to secure the rear wheel - you don't need four tiedowns.

So who works on the Santa Regina with the Blue/purple harley?
When I crossed yesterday it was nicely tied down, I copied his knots, very efficient, he must be an AB or engineer to have knots like that.
There were only two bikes on the whole ferry, lonely!

I've just come back on the Interislander. That cost $120 that for me and the bike. Bluebridge is cheaper.

It depends how far in advance you book - Interislander have tiered fares (just like airlines) that range from $90 upwards. They have a certain number available at $90, then once they are all booked, it goes to the next fare up, and so on..... I think the $90 is only available if you book online.

was just going to make a thread asking about this topic. luckily i searched first before the kb forum police got me
still not too sure is best. do people prefer interislander due to the fact it has more tie down points? dont want to get on bluebridge to find out there are no tie down points left for me
