It's been an awesome weekend weatherwise. I've managed to get out on short rides a couple of days and seen lots of others on the roads - Spankme, Aff-man and Nicksta that I recognised today. Can't see any thread for ride reports so thought I'd start one.... my report soon...

Well after a long time of no riding (or posting on KB) due to work commitments I finally got out for a ride today.
Went to Lake Ferry for lunch with a few mates. Bloody great day for a ride and it seems that lots of other thought so too. Plently of bikes over there today.
Weather was perfect & no wind so the riding was primo.
Lunch was so slow, took over an hour to get ours but hey! Who cares! We were on Sunday mode on a Monday so its all good.
I was surprised how light the traffic was coming back. I thought it would be hell on the hill today but it wasnt too bad.
Damn its good to be back riding again.:Punk:

Also got time this afternoon to take the DR650SE out to check it wasn't leaking any more - just went over Paekak Hill and back and there were cops everywhere - three to a car - what's that about?
Great weather alright.

Had a skills practice session on Friday as the big carpark had no cars in it, rode around the inlet to practice corners and scraped a peg on the way home (report in another thread). Sunday went on the newbie ride to Martinbourough and around Lake Ferry (report in other thread). Today, as hubby had bought home his new K7 750, I took that for a ride out to Pahatanui Inlet and rode up and down there a couple of times to test it on corners (and to find I can't U-turn it like the Hornet :o ) then rode it to Rimutex and had to swap bikes as I wasn't allowed to give it its first ride over the Rimatakas!:bye: So back on my trusty Hornet for a ride up and over and back. Scraped my peg on a corner on the Takas, completely accidental like:innocent: , and home among a bunch of turkeys on their way home from the long weekend. Have the week off, so will be doing a bit more practicing (if the weather can be kind for a bit longer!):scooter:

I had a small list of things to do on my bike this weekend. I fitted the new left tail fairing and left mirror ($314 incl GST) that were damaged when I binned at Taupo in November. Moved my pegs up and back to save my pegs and boots at track days. Fitted a switch to my radar detector so that I can switch it on and off on the move to make sure it the HARD's working ( My Valentine 1 doesn't false so I don't get constant reminders that everythings working and my HARD batteries haven't gone flat). Also fitted the external microphone my wife bought me :Punk: for my video camera so my on board video won't get all that annoying wind noise.
So I've ridden around the Whitford/Clevedon/Maraetai/Hunua area a few times testing various camera setups, and getting used to my new peg positions. :scooter: I was surprised how minimal the peg adjustment was but how much difference it made to the riding comfort.
Rode out to Clevedon with the "250" group on Sunday morning despite having to be at a family gathering in Massey at 11.30am. After the family do I went home via Bombay/Hunua/Clevedon. Today we went out late with Alan and planned to go against the flow of anticipated heavy traffic. Had some fun thru Monument Road and the Hunua Gorge but otherwise traffic was a pain. Video camera microphone works well (as long as i remember to switch it on :slap: ) so I'm looking forward to some good footage at the next trackday! Good to see so many bikes out on the road!!

Cruised down to Rottenrua to visit wifey's sisters and families, (and friends). Hit the traffic jams at Spaghetti junction at about 11.30am Friday, and despite being on the bike and weaving/splitting as much as poss, (bike's a bit ponderous two-up at walking pace so was a bit cautious and Mrs. Edbear was getting a bit impatient... At one point after repeatedly tapping,(!), me on the back and giving instructions on how to get through traffic MUCH quicker, she finally said in exasperation, "Let me drive!"):gob:
Was intending to go via 27, but as the traffic was stopped halfway back up the Bombays, changed our minds and stuck to SH1. Even so, it was stalled and barely crawling from Mercer right through to Te Kauwhata. Naturally we took the cycle lanes and verges and made steady progress all the way up the left much to the envy of those stuck at 0-10km/h beside us. Some leaning out their windows and expressing their wish to join us as we cruised on by at around 30km/h!:scooter: Passed two HP going the opposite direction but they ignored us and carried on.:sunny:
After stopping in to friend's and family in Morrinsville the traffic was good from then on even through the Mamaku's, we were not held up at all!
Beautiful weather, met new friends and had a ball! Got to find and drive a classic Jag and saw how the other half live when the Real Estate friend took us to see what $2m buys you at Lake Tarawera!
Got 52mpg from the C50T despite pressing on and using full throttle for overtaking. Gave the Missus a moment when scraping the footboards but she really enjoyed the trip though expressed the need to do lots more riding to toughen up... she was suffering a bit with sore bum and knees by the time we got home.

IM CONSCIOUS OF IT TOO, but i check by pressing the on/off switch. just for a second, less than 2 and it transmits to the h.a.r.d. system to let you know your still in stealth mode ** just realised you have a rain cover on yours... ignore above
nice work gettin the bike back together after the bin. i'm still having physio & acupuncture for my off, but the bikes bike to new again, although i need new batteries for my h.a.r.d system which ran out 3 weeks ago :shit:

I went around a paddock a few times on a four wheeler (farm bike thingee). It was fine as soon as:
> I figured out that you don't twist the throttle but thumb the wee lever thingee
> Was told that that the clutch lever was actually another brake (couldn't figure out why whenever I pulled the clutch in to change gear the bike skidded to a halt).
> Let go of my natural inclination and accepted that you need to lean away from rather than lean into the corner to get around faster.
More exciting was when Mrs Oakie got the inclination to do a lap topless. :gob:

Marlborough for me, for a friends birthday - about an hour and a half past Portage, which is getting pretty out of the way!
Alot of it being unsealed and more akin to a logging track, the TL did an awesome impression of a dual sport.
Stunning scenery ... forgot the camera at home

Also had a great weekend.
Caged it with the family up to Ahipara on Friday morning leaving Auckland at 6:30am. Thank God we managed to miss all the other traffic heading norf later that day.
Back to my roots and was on a quad and KX250 all day Saturday. Left Ahipara and rode along the coast zig-zagging between the dunes and reserve all the way down to Herekino Harbour. The kids were on the quads and absolutey loved it. Riding on the beach back to the house during sunset was memorable. Got home in time for smoked marlin and copious amounts of bevey.
Rode the dunes with my wife again on Sunday for a couple of hours to blow the hangover and caught a few mellies watching the locals carve up Mooki Lau. SE picked the wave action up to 15-20ft in the morning!!! Jafas (you can spot them a mile away cause the wear the big sunglasses) missed it all trying to dig there their jetski trailer out of the sand!! That was funny.
Back to Jafaland last night arriving about 11:30pm avoiding the traffic which I gather was shithouse.
Excellent weekend.

Phew, I'm home. I got in my fair share of riding today :D
Up at 7am, wheetbix and out the door by 7.30.
Home - > Pakuranga -> Howick -> Whitford -> all the way out to Kawakawa, visitng every little beach / boatramp on the way.
Reverse trip home again by lunchtime.
Grab a sammie and out the door to meet Mr and Mrs fjones at the domain, then a quick stop at motosomething for some summer gloves (It was such a hot day! My winter gloves were a bit much!).
I ordered a tinted visor for my lid too, wohoo.
Hop on the Norwestern right to the end - (my first real blat on the motorway), then out through some backroads (lost) to scenic drive, blat around there,
then back down through some other places i don't really know. Back on the motorway, off at newton road and head down to New Market for something to eat.
I say goodbye to Mr and Mrs fjones and head home for a minute, then off to visit my mother (see thread here (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=47673)), then home, then back to town for dinner, then home.
All in all a bloody good day.

Getting to know my new bike that I picked up on Thursday. Masterton to Wellington and back a few times, Paekok Hill Rd a few times, Pauahatanui Inlet a few times, round the bays a few times, Castlepoint, Lake Ferry, Martinborough a few times, and Rimutakas lots.
Some fantastic rides with groups (see mervs links) and some just by myself.

I had a hire bike for the weekend as I sold mine and on the prowl for a new one!
Mrs and I went up to Hanmer yesterday, Akaroa today and god know where I am going to go tomorrow as I have the day off also (God bless accountants day!). There were a heap of bikes out over the Port Hills and Akaroa Rd!
Have a bright yellow BMW F650GS that I hired from Kea campers. Was supposed to get a Dakar however the person who hired it before wrote it off down Te Anau way, sadly they didnt survive the crash!

978km round trip to Nelson for the weekend  rode up Saturday in absolute crap weather from home to Waikari  then dubious looking weather through the main divide. The return journey today was magic :sunny:
Had a great time in Nelson (cheers MyGSXF), spent time with & handled a Capican (sp?) Monkey at the Tahuna zoo thingy.
Picked up a pair of motorcycle boots on the way home (purchased off trademe, and needed after chewing out the 1 of the toes of my old boots last weekend on the way to the Mokihinui rally
So in all a great weekends riding, a fond memory of "RICKY" (The Monkey), & scored new boots :Punk:

Awesome riding, great company!
Friday: Auckland to Hahei via Kaiuaua, Kopu and Hikuai
Hooked up with a couple of guys at Whitford Servo - one was on a brand new Ducati 1098, picked it up Thursday - for some reason he wouldn't let me ride it...the other guy was on an older GSXR750 with a set of scuffed leathers and a name along the back...anyways, I asked if I could come along for the ride. Weeelllll...what a ride that turned out to be! I thought a pleasant cruise down the coast was in order but I was sadly mistaken. Turns out both these guys raced superbikes in their day so the trip was a quicky...woohoo!
Departed their company at Kaiuaua and tootled off to the Coromandel alone...my favourite stretch of road - Kopu - Hikuai - is starting to feel like it needs some repair! Still, a pleasant ride over the hill and up to Hahei.
Saturday: Hahei to Whangamata return
A more subdued trip this one but with the added bonus of a quick spin up to the Coroglen Pub to pass on a wee message at the end of the day...
Monday: Hahei to Whangamata to Coromandel, to Kopu to Kaiuaua
Met up with a friend in Whangamata and headed up to do the Coro Loop - surprisingly the traffic was not that bad. Being just two of us, we made good time. Bit of a giggle when Sam leaned his new SV650 into a corner, hit the foot peg and bent the brake lever - oops! Might need to get those lifted up a bit before you take it on the track! Played swap the bike from Coromandel southwards. Now I know why I race a 650 - what a pleasure to ride in the twistys compared to the thou! Quick, light, easy to turn...hmm, maybe I should trade the thou - anyone want to swap?
So, still no wheelies - ribs are still a bit sore for that - no stoppies, no runners, pretty ordinary couple of days really...

Borrowed a 996 :headbang: I WANT ONE. On Friday went on a ride with Fizzerman, Flame, Skelstar, Darkman, and a few others whose KB name's I don't know. Went over the Rimutaka's to Martinbrough, Down Princess St and uot up the Gladstone hillclimb road, to Masterton, then out to Castlepoint. Kept fizzerman honest there and back. Did some wheelies, gotta be good. Even some side by side, standing up looking at each other...Damn where were the cameras?? And played round with backing it in...blackies are cool. And 'only' broke one 996 headlight and chipped paint in unexpected stone shower :brick:.
Monday went for a ride on another borrowed bike, GSXR750 K4 this time (my sub-title ain't Bike Whore for nout) over Pikok hill, and around the Patahanui inlet a few times. Much fun was had by me, at least :D
Awesome weekend, nice to be back on a bike for the first time in over a fortnight.

Nana'd around Cleavedon area for a couple of days, met and had a good yarn with a couple of the locals.
Monday, however, school work was at hand (not to mention running low on 2t oil... damn Easter to hell when you have to shop).
The upside to working weekends is when public holidays roll up, full pay for no work. Love it.

Had a great time in Nelson (cheers MyGSXF), spent time with & handled a Capican (sp?) Monkey "Ricky" at the Tahuna zoo thingy :Punk:
Natureland in Tahuna.. a great wee local zoo.. & the kids small (& big) love it! :Punk:
Ricky was attacked by an older brother when very small, & suffered brain damage as a result, so has been hand raised by the staff for 15 ? years! he's so gorgeous!!!! We were about the last to leave at closing time & so got to spend quite a bit of time with him.. I think I enjoyed that more than the kids did.. :innocent: Mr 4 year old wasn't quite sure about the whole deal, at first  but eventually held Ricky's hand!!
3 shots of Ricky & one of a very cool Tuatara!!!! :Punk:

I took me new minimoto out for a little skid.
Pulled out onto a road, overtaking cars as it comes on the pipe and wheelying past at around 120kph.
Sadly, it's already claimed a victim. 15 seconds on it, they thought they could handle the "kids" bike, alas, another trip to A&E. Ahhhhhhhh good times.

I had a shit weekend.
Cageing with trailer on good friday, destination Stony Bay at the top of coromandel. Rear ended coming down the bombays, towbar bent up, trailer stuck to car. Turned around, went home. Too unsafe to continue. Had to sledge-hammer the safety pin off the trailer to get it off the car. Rest of family already over there, out of cellphone coverage.
Saturday, did nothing.
Sunday, did nothing.
Monday, still nothing.
 Fuck you, Easter.
Bored as shit.

Spent most of the weekend painting the house. Managed to get out for a quick spin on the Fenland Express on Sunday morning between coats of paint - the good old Newlands, Haywards Hill loop.
Lovely. Bugger all traffic, fantastic weather, no need to get anywhere in a hurry. This is the longest I've ridden the SV so far, and it's suprisingly comfy. Very relaxed at 110-120 in 6th (just following the other traffic).
I'm going to have to get away for a few longer runs after the house is finally finished. Man there's a lot of house when it comes to painting!@!!!!!!

Had a few rides as weather in BOP was perfect. Did a 350+km ride on sunday from papamoa to Whakatane over the Rotoma's to Rotorua then over Mamaku's to Morrinsville back over Kaimai ranges. basically found all the hills with heaps of corners. Alot of fun but was pushing time to fit in some fishing.

Ripped apart a bathroom on Friday...now thats great fun! Had to get rid of the rubbish Saturday ... not such fun.
Sunday was time to ride - Yehaaaa. Its been ages since I took the SV out due to it firstly being unrideable and then my ankle injury prevented me putting my boot on so up my fav bit of road SH16. Ran into MacD and co (not literally) and had a yarn before toddling off.
I have to say to the F*&wit that put my rear tyre back on - THE REAR BRAKES FAILED going down my driveway (which is 45 degree angle)

No, I'm innocent. I filled up in J'ville, gently pootled up Newlands Rd to my residence in Paparangi, whence I quietly cleaned my steed, and oiled it's chain.
It's not worth harassing cars. Interesting to hear that there's another slver SV about in the Newlands area.

Extremely leisurely morning tea at Martinborough, stopped at friends of our compadre's for a chinwag then out to Tora for lunch at more friends of our compadre's, out to Te Awaiti, then back over the Taka's and home via Haywards.
