View Full Version : Kawa Balius ZR250 - Noisy cam chain paranoia

I'm English, living in Aus, riding a VFR800 - not the best start to my first post to a NZ 250cc forum but pls don't hold it against me!

I went out today and bought a clean and shiny 250cc Balius for my girlfriend (she gets back next week - big surprise etc). Obviously I had to take it out for the whole day and give it a good thrashing - it revs to 16k which made me feel 16 again - hilarious stuff.

I did notice a whirring cam chain noise at the top end and would like to know if I'm paranoid or if its something I should look at? A lot of bikes just have that noise but I have no knowledge of the ZR. Its a 2000 model with only 6000km on the clock. The noise does not go away after start up/warm up. Its not been abused but then I don't think its ever had a 'proper' service either.

Is it a 'normal' noise?

Does anyone know what type of cam chain tensioner is on there, where it is, whether it gets stuck at all? Is it the sort I just pull off, clean up and put back on.

I think its the same lump as ZXR250 so any knowledge on those would prob be applicable..

Any advice greatly appreciated - there is almost NOTHING on the web for this model and no proper manuals around - this forum keeps popping up as the healthiest source of 250 info - hence the post.

Cheers all,
P.
