Hear ye! hear ye! After a prolonged absence, GUNNYROB, AKA Baden Powell has finally rejoined the fine fellowship of motorbicyclists.:scooter:
I got a VFR 800!! OOOOH it's nice and shiny!
Cheers to the team at AMPS, I'll see the rest of you folks on the road real soon.
Now, whose got contacts for BRONZ & the Ulysses clubs?

This year, and he got it for an OBSCENE price.
gunnyrob may be one of my oldest and dearest friends, but I REALLY hate him right now.
It's like he went out and a deliberately bought a bike that would make me burninate.

Was that the 2k off listed price "deal"?
I went into a dealers and sat on the bike (since no of the minions wanted to take any notice of a potential buyer). Strangely enough by sitting on the bike I instantly had attention...
The discount was offered.
I asked if they had the '07 red/white/blue? "What is that?" "Never heard of that colour scheme". (see my sig.pic below - LH bike)
If they had that bike (in NZ) there was a potential sale.
Ohh RWB VFR!!!  (oops, I think I had a little trouser accident...)

Way more than 2k off the listed price.

Congrats mate! Welcome back to two wheeled utopia! Just in time for winter. Err, I mean... :sunny:
How the hell did you score that much of a discount? Jim2: You're not seriously thinking of pulling the same trick and trading the Z in?! Not that I'd say no to a shiny new VFR800... In fact, better hold me back.

No, not me - gunnyrob scored a massive discount.

Yeah I know that much. I said "How the hell did you get that much of a discount?!" Followed then by "Jim2: Planning to follow suit?" Guess it wasn't as clear as it could be. Maybe I should have added an 'enter' in there for clarity. Sorry.
Just so's we know... the list price for a 2007 VFR800 is $16995 if memory serves. Just how much off that did he manage, and how? By the jealous murmourings he must've pulled a bit of a trick to manage it...

I'm not at liberty to divulge that information and a VFR800 isn't enough of a change to tempt me off the Z.
I think we're back on track now :)

You'll need to spend $1500 in importing a race exhaust, otherwise it will sound like a wheezing lawnmower.

A particularly valid point!
Keeping a standard exhaust on a VFR is like shoving an old sock down Dame Kiri's throat.
One does not wish to anger the V4 gods...

I started laughing at this post, as it implies that Rob is an old bugger.....but then I realised that I'll be 40 in October......AAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!! :gob:
Maybe we can get a family discount on the subs :)

Cheers Jetboy, and thanks again for sorting the insurance.
The discount was pretty(!) good as it was the demo bike that had 1000km on the clock. It just happened that there was a Honda winter sale on that knocked off a further 2 grand! (4 grand total discount)
I hadn't actually intended to get another boik until Dec, when I return from sea, but the deal was so good, it was gaggin for it.
Talk about fate, I had the cash on hand, the day was fine for the test ride, insurance was easy (specially now I'm a born again single old fecker just finishing the mid life crises), heck, the colour even matches the helmet I bought last year in preparation for just such an occurance!
Finance now sorted, (VISA is loaded up, ready for a fly buy hit) pick up is Sat 14 Apr at 0910. Hoorah!:scooter:
photos will follow IDC

DISASTER!!! Upon fronting up to pay I was informed that the deal was for 14995 NOT the 12995 I had been expecting!:shit:
The confusion was that the list cash price on the card was 14995, and the bike had another card on it saying "$2000 off this bike."
"Oh no" I was told this morning, the cash price IS the discounted price. A discussion on Bait advertising and the fair trading act ensued. :nono:
The upshot was I was not prepared to fork over the extra cash as a brand new one was sold the other week for the same price.
To avoid future confusion, I suggested to Ray that the sale price now include "Was" & "Now" pricing
Big thumbs down to AMPS on this one, but no hard feelings. Hopefully something will come up in due course.

Oh, dude, gutted :( That's a bit of a pity... there are others who would have made the same mistake as you did. Not really your fault, the law requires clear pricing and all that...

Bummer, but good skills sticking to your guns. Most lesser males (me) would have just said, "alright then."
I'll stop burninating now.

I wasn't impressed with how the whole thing went down.
With regards to the way the pricing was indicated, we even asked some randoms for their opinion on the expected pricing of a Hornet they had on the stand with a sticker price on it of $11995 and a sign saying "$1000 off". They promptly replied $10995, which is as it should be.
The AMPs sales guys wasn't so sure, but if that was the case, then they are selling Hornets for $12995 which is a grand MORE than all the other Honda dealers around, so they can sell it at RRP with a "supposed" grand discount...WTF?
All I can say is, Road & Sport is only an hour down the road and they have Buells with discounts too. And you get the bonus of doing 22 on the way home and to the first service
