I was looking at one on Monday. There was a 999 handy for comparisons.

It looks smaller than a 999, but but probably only because it's bum is shorter. That shoebox like can on the end of a 999 single seater makes it look longer.

And the tank on the 1098 looks quite long, high and forward.

But it looked smaller than my GSXR, but that wasn't parked very close.

Seriously? do you think the seat hight was lower or taller on the 1098Compared to my GSXR? Dunno. Probably higher. Most things are. compared to the 999? I think higher still. I noticed the frames looked pretty much the same really.

But the overall impression is 'small'. Yam R6 small.

The small amount of oil hanging around between the rear cylinder and what I presume was the top of the gearbox made me smile.

One dumb thing I noticed was that the brake lights are integrated into the tail piece. Now surely one of the cool things about the 999/749 was that you could take off that whole number plate and lights thingy in one easy go... Oh well.

Given its weight the K7 looks on paper and off the dyno to be the one pulling big numbers. Would be good to see how that manifests to actual roll on and track times. R1 also very impressive...

All these tests and they forgot the most important:
1098S - Gorgeous
CBR1000RR - Pretty
ZX10R - Hmm ...
MVF41000R - Front end fugly, rest is pure sex
GSX-R1000K7 -

12th April 2007, 08:33
Green faces?.....*must signify jealousy!*

Honda is slipping with the most limpwristed power output, and one of the slowest lap times. Odds on a K7 750 would be faster around the same track.

Honda don't make the bike with the aim of being the fastest in a straight line, or the quickest round a track. It's a road bike, and from some reports I've read, the best all round 1 litre sports road bike. I understand it's the highest selling 1 litre sports bike in Oz.

You might impress your mates with the top speed or power output of your Gixxer, R1 or ZX or woteva, but try riding it on some twisty back roads and back those figures up :killingme - I'd be surprised if 5% of 1 litre sportbike owners can push their bike anywhere near to it's limits, regardless of the brand.

I picked up my CBR1000RR for $19500 including a Scorpion can. The ZX10R's $19995 I believe (ask DMNTD - he's had a few of them :dodge:). I think the R1's $22000. As for the MV and Duke - significantly more.

GSX-R1000K7 -    It's not that bad. Looks better in blue and white that it did in yellow and white. Should look even better in all black. But there is something dumpy about the way it looks. Too much white I reckon.

Agreed.

Plus top speed of CBR must be disputed.....I know, anybody can go fast in a straight line.....but it is faster than that quoted figure as are all possibly.

And gixxer K7 side profile fine - outside of that, questionable IMO

Hmm, I saw an indicated 290 (which is probably about 275ish) down the back straight at Puke on my Blade but it was still pulling when I ran out of road. I think for most people though, the top speed's completely irrelevant for anything other than boasting to your mates. There can't be that many people who will ever see the top speed of any of these bikes on the open road, unless they happen to live in Germany, Northern Territories or the couple of states in the US that have no speed limit.
For the most part, people that are that serious on the track will change their bikes significantly enough to completely skew the figures quoted. Ohlins bouncy bits, full exhaust system, K&N and a Dynojet will transform most bikes if properly tuned. There was a 2005 Blade on eBay in the UK recently: 215hp at the crank. just shows what the engine's capable of when all the internals are replaced with fancy expensive bits. Same would apply to all the other bikes listed, of course.

Yeah most of those top speeds seem down on what the Makers and other mags claim. My 04 cbr1000rr did a measured 283kph at the 1/4 mile sprints. The speedo had reached it's max at 299 just a few seconds before it ran out of puff. Can't say I've meet any rider who regularly commutes and spends all their weekend rides in that 275 to 295kph zone. But if someone claims that they do then they will have to go for the latest MV1000R312 model - factory claim a genuine 312kph out of the crate, hence it's name. No doubt someone will buy one and moan that they can only get 310.9kph and it's holding them back. Poor sods.
What an awesome lineup. There must be something for everyone's tastes in that bunch.

I've had my time on a litre sports bike and I'm over it. None of the litre jap bikes do it for me at all. I've come to the conclusion that a naked bike is more fun on the twisties (which is where it all happens) and that I really should have a twin in the collection.

Hey, at the 1/4 mile sprints i managed 300.6 on a 2005 R1, DEAD STOCK, mirrors and all. BUT the road was downhill, and the wind was behind.....i hit 299Km/H on the speedo before I snicked top tho....

I was there Jay when you screamed passed. Why do you think no one wants to lend you their bike after that! I wonder how that bike will stand up to it's 2 yr warranty???
The MV was screwed over at last year's Masterbike. Even though 7 of the 16 testers posted their fastest lap time on it they ranked it 2nd because the riders didn't rate it as high in their personal survey form. Comments like "not comfortable" and " needs to be ridden with confidence to get the most out of it (so what, who wants a bike with autopilot?). What's that got to do with a track only performance test anyway.:done:

Owned & ridden all these bikes & have ended up on V-Twin & are enjoying ridding even more now , just like it was when I first hit the roads 27 ys ago . Used, they should be good value. Especially if you can find a 750F4. If one is paying nearly $45K for one in NZ then they are being ripped off. The MV Agusta USA internets (http://www.mvagustausa.com/web-mvagusta/F4-1000S_06.html) claims an F4S model costs USD$21,795 excl tax. So it should be $NZD35K unless I am missing something..?

They're all good bikes and they do the business. Tribute to their makers and technology... I remember riding a GPZ900R back in 1984 and thinking that it couldnt get much better...Now I could probably go past the old Kwaka in third...

Owned & ridden all these bikes & have ended up on V-Twin & are enjoying ridding even more now , just like it was when I first hit the roads 27 ys ago . For the young Guns & racers there will always be a place for the Jap beasts but all good thing must come to an end sooner or later .

next year when you trade up to a fuckin mobility scooter and a pension book it will be the "next big thing"

"I've had all of those bikes AND an RSVR Factory with Ohlins Underpants but nothing, and I mean nothing never made or ever to be made, will be faster or better handling or more comfortable than mah new mobility scooter, it's just the bestest."

If Honda's are for homo's, Gixxers are for sheep shaggers. (Or Indian Dairy Owner's............there's one on every corner)

I found the gixxer by far the most comfortable for me dodgy neck. The honda felt a bit heavy but very confidence inspiring [have to admit the power thing was not noticed.
On my brief ride of the K6 1000 I found the opposite as regards comfort. I wasn't looking for the best track-day bike (yes - I think that would have been the Gixxer) - I needed a bike for everyday use that could also go OK on the track. I found the Blade more comfortable and much easier to ride in traffic. I also got the impression that the build quality on the Honda was better. The R1 I rode was quick, but there was nothing below about 6k rpm and it also fried the bottom of my legs.

In the end its personal choice........so if your a homosexual the honda is for you
Absolutely. Pity Honda don't do a salmon pink and baby blue colour scheme to match the sexuality of their riders.

*shakes head* your a worrying man my freind. 916 iconic. 999 butt-ugly compared to 916. 1098, who the hell you think your kidding? 916 in drag!!
Now the MV.............

The MV is beautiful, but thats because the guy who designed the 916 designed the MV

The 999 has grown on me, I thought it was gross when it came out, the 1098 is great tho', a return to the looks of the 916 like you say :scooter:

But what was he thinking when he stuck that god awful headlight on the MV? The rest of the bike is stunning - a work of design beauty - but the front end looks like it was hashed together by a retarded five year-old.

The 04 10 is a standout and probably my favourite litre.
That bike is zero jabs, nada footwork and gives no warnings...a knockout uppercut that you wont see coming...

Id be keen to ride the K7. I've read Zook are trying to pull some of the hypersport brigade into buying it...

Once again, one of those go nowhere debates on which is the best.

The only thing different today is there's no one swingin' the bat for Yamaha. So they come last. They're shit.

Second to last has to be Honda. Unfortunate, because some of the nicest people I know ride them, and maybe that's the problem. Also, Honda owners are far too quick to defend their own sexuality. (Thou does protest too much)

Kumandsukme owners only seem able to say things like "Kawasaki rulz!", similar to a 6 year old bully at primary school. Obviously lacking in the brain department so a distant second.

Winner, and still champ is Suzuki. Obviously, the owners are the wittiest, best looking (With the exception of Dover) and most skilled at taming the top notch bike.

This test is now over, no doubt there'll be another in 4 days time.

Like the R1 and ZX10R? Or is it more to do with Euro 3 Emission requirements and the amount of power they are generating from a 1000cc engine?

My opinion is they ALL will scare the F#$% out of you if you keep them at red line (if you can) and the power difference is not much at full tit.
Still GSXR's still rule (after the bussa of cause). ZX10 next if I had to pick a 2nd

Cool figures on the whole lot of them methinks. One of the posts on that forum sums it up well, it's much of a muchness as to performance, they are all close as to eachother, so it's down to what you like most, and what suits how you ride.

And the big one, what you can afford, most of us buy whatever we can get the best deal on I think.

Best Lap Time and average of 6 best lap time on Siracusa the fastest italian circuit , more then Monza 5,4 Km. For some reason the K7 was excluded from this test i dunno there are no numbers for it?????

It's a Suzuki, it probably broke down or something fell off it.

Yawn, another litre bike shootout. Yawn, they all do 0-100 in diddly squat, stop on a cent and outhandle 99.9% of riders.

Pick the shape, colour & engine config you like and git ridin as none of them are lemons.

Hmm, must remember to include the quad bike. I take it you hardly ride your $hite Suzuki after riding one of Yamaha's [1*] finest.

[1] Shh....bikes with the tuning fork logo are my preferred choice but they're way overpriced here.
