I near died tonite because someone in a HR/ HD holden ignored a give-way.... if i was doing the speed limit, (I came out of a corner real slow for once due to the said give-way) instead of below, if i didnt cover my front brake, I would be implanted into a 67 holden full of 17 year olds. the driver had a hoodie and a cap hence NO peripheral vision. i stopped shaking and followed them round the corner where they stopped (6 in car) and asked the driver what he thought he was doing...."sorry man" ..... could of hit him.....

I know what you mean
I live near a intersection on a huge straight with stop signs and most(as in damn heaps) people roll though
Nearly got taking out by a ute a few days ago
If i was going straight though i would of been hit but instead i was about to turn off
and the guy crossed out in front of me.

There are some useless sons of bitches out there.. I'm glad you didn't take a swing at this guy though, considering he had 5 mates in the car.
I don't suppose you got his plate by some chance? A police complaint might drive home the seriousness of his actions. I'm usually too busy staring in disbelief at these fools to think to take a number plate..

Cheers all....
Learnt years ago to stay alive by covering my front brake at intersections, no matter who gives way! learnt the back brake aint much use if you panic too..... i hope any learners can take something from this.
not stomping the right foot saved me from a lowside tonite too... hope people spend time to adjust their pedal so it's in reach when needed without having to jump on it!

funny you should mention that.... i'm pretty ugly and i'm pretty sure i scared them!
the funnier thing (and this freaks me out) 2 nites ago when i got home from work, the cops had them pulled over outside my house.... probably the reason i didnt go off, as they might know where i live,(or not) and my mrs and baby are home alone during the day...cant risk it....fairly unique bike on the coast here (i think they hang out up the road a bit)

well if they are local, I'd say leave it a few weeks and then go visit them with a set of sidecutters and whip off their tire valves.
It would provide a great inconvenience and hopefully have them off the road for a while.
A friend of a friend once did it to a parking warden's car and had a good laugh watching it being hoisted up onto a flatbed tow truck afterwards..

It does seem like we polarise the public.. 1/2 consider us nusances on their roads, and the other 1/2 seem to live in fear of us..

Cmon people we are on motorcycles the most invisible object to the "cage drive" because we are not a threat, intersections are dangerous green lights arent safe, what happened to defensive driving? Im still beating my head against the wall telling the wife and kids sure you have right of way but whats the point when the bastards have hit you and have no insurance you may be right but, you still arent going to win. Ive hit enough cars on bikes to know it still hurts even when you in the right. People be careful out there Cold Kiwi next weekend, gotta make it there.

so glad you are ok, it is my opinion that you can never trust that omeone has actually seen you, I've had people appear to be looking straight at me and still pull out in front of me, glad you didn't end up as a statistic!

That's strange, a middle-eastern woman did the same to me that night. As I approached the roundabout at a slightly illegal speed, I had a flash that someone might approach from the blind left so I slowed and sure - bloody- enough she comes into view, looks at me and continues straight into the roundabout, could have been messy. I really believe in premonitions now.

And what would that achieve - apart from some personal satisfaction? He didnt see the bike, its not like he deliberately drove out in front of it. As long as he got a scare, that'll do it for the moment huh...

Yeah, on my way home tonight (finished at 21:00) from East Tamaki going along Ti Rakau some asswipe in his "small-dick-mobile" cut in front of me, all his mates were having a good laugh until a red light when I pulled up next to the Lancer and proceded to tell driver where his female parent and siblings originated from (also told him his father and brothers were participants of lewd acts with rabid dogs).
Car occupants were silent...I am not small in stature and having spent time in the South African Army, can cuss well if the need arises.
"Sorry mate, didn't see you...."

Sorry PT, that comment was meant in jest. I sure wouldn't have the guts to give it a go!

I was speaking from my experiences so far, I get the impression that when some drivers see bikers they must think gangs etc, and seem to act in a different manner than they would to any other road user. In particular traffic seems to part like the red sea when harley's are lane splitting..

Devils advocate....
Driving to work yesterday in a 1996 Commodore I saw a couple of bikes,I'm always on the lookout for bikes, they are my main interset,so anything with two wheels catches my attention. At the Pt Chev lights I see a scooter,it's one I haven't seen before so I check it out - it's kinda tall and skinny, lime green with a couple of tiny headlamps, cool,I like it.A few kms further on I have to turn right on a main road, but there's never much traffic coming the other way, just a couple of cars to come through then I turn right across the road - then I see a bike coming!!!!! a lime green scooter same as I saw at Pt Chev....no way have I endangered him,he probably never even noticed me - but I'm kinda shocked I never saw him.A Commodore is not exactly a car with restricted vision, but the bike was somehow hidden from my view - a pillar, another car,powerpole....whatever,it was a bike exactly like I had just seen,my mind should of pounced on it,should have seen it instantly, but no....I missed him...completly....
OK,I'm a doddery old fart who shouldn't be on the road,I'm out to kill you...nothing you can do can stop me....
