I have no idea what site he supposedly found me advertising on, I haven't sold anything bike related via the web for donkeys but it absolutely reeks of dodgy dealings. Maybe the fraudsters have just started spamming people off their personal bike related sites or something.

If I got something like that I would do my utmost to waste his time by leading him on and making him answer all sorts of questions, while giving the impression I was interested. If everyone did that instead of just laughing and ignoring it, these guys might be deterred...

I've had things like this before - all they do is search for bike forums and then see if they can get hold of email addresses (this is why I ALWAYS log out when I am finished). Do you use any forums where it isn't 'members only'? If so, these are easly found on the net and it doesn't take a lot of effort to find addresses and fire off a few emails.

Obviously, this is dodgy - what will happen is, you go back (or as chance would have it, they've found someone who is selling a bike) and give them a price. Then they come back saying how happy they are and they (or probably 'their client') wants the bike, but they need to forward the funds... so can they have your bank account details? Soon as they've got them, your account will be emptied and you will never hear from them again.

As they mentioned a cheque, first of all they'll need some funds from you so that they can set up the transfer - or possibly have to register something. Again, you send off the cheque... and they disappear into the sunset with your money.

If you do want to go back to him, take a look at this site first (http://www.419eater.com/index.htm)

This guy has actually managed to get money from some of these people! He gives a lot of hints and tips on how to deal with these people (setting up spoof email addresses etc is defintitely something you must do).

Be careful to cover your tracks though. Never, EVER use your real name or any email addresses, snail addresses that are connected to you in real life.

But look at the site I linked to - this guy is a genius at playing these people and, as I say, has got money out of some of them.

I did. I was fun for the first three days but then i got bored and irritated when he started repeating himself. CK is the master, there is a previous thread about him and this guy when he was selling the zx6r. Man you should have read the emails quite funny really. So if you got th time have fun :killingme :killingme
