im hoping for some help or rather some reassurance.

i have ridden my GN about 1200kms in the last 3 days and has developed a rattle somewhere around the muffler/exhaust.

is this likely to be a problem that needs fixing now or can it wait till after another long run this weekend (sulpher city)

:done:

Unfortunately, it's a bit hard to know which of the 3,000 or so components of the bike is causing the rattle, if you could hold your computer close to the bike (while running and rattling) I will listen to my computer and be able to give a more accurate diagnosis.

On a more serious note.....try and listen to the rattle with the bike at rest (& running) and work out where it's coming from. If its the engine, it's probably serious, its its bodywork or bits of the exhaust it's probably not serious.
Failing that, get someone that knows something about mechanical thingies to have a look at it.

That will be $45.00

A few people have talked about the baffle falling of their exhausts, could it be that?

Could it be your number plate? The engine tend to loosen a lot of the bolts by vibration. (Check all the the bolts in the direction of the sound.. LOL)

when is it rattling...stationary or moving only, is it a rattle or more of a knock.... I'd probably check the chain tension first then the exhaust for movement....

a loose rivit or rusted out hole can give a good rattle. So can if the muffler mounting point is lost (nut missing as happened to me, etc)
what about the chain being loose?

Go and shake your muffler. See if it moves easily.

Just go back there and give everyhing a good shake. See if anything is moving, usually nothing should move (except for obvious things like chains and wheels etc.)
