Unused gravel roads

Does anyone know of any unused gravel roads or forestry roads in or around auckland that we are allowed to go for a ride around on? we dont want to go off the road into the bush/forestry, just follow the road for a couple of hours, any help would be great, thanks.

im in whangarei almost every weekend, just wanted a quiet ride in auckland with my partner on some access roads. wiotira looks good though. went to the whananaki ride up there easter weekend, one of the best i have been on.
