I see Avalon Biddle is placed 5th after Round 1 of the Aussie Honda CBR150 Junior Road racing Champs.

You go girl!

Couple of other New Zealanders doing well too: Nick Cain and Alastair Hoogenboeze.

Just talkin to a few parents and youngsters who were there, the top 4 were very quick, then not much in it 5th thru to 10th. In the final race Avalon finished 8th, Nick Cain 9th. Alastair Hoogenboezem 16th, but lucky to ride after a major hit from behind on the day before. Apparently the riding behaviour in general was shocking. All are Motorcycling Canterbury members. Nick finished 2nd in the National Support class Streetstock over the 3 South Island rounds. Outstanding considering he was then only just 13 years old. But he'd spent a full year in Young Junior Road race. This class is really producing some top young riders, who, on their 13th birthday are "right on it" in Streetstock. Is there anyone else around NZ using this class? I would be interesting to know how it's working for them. These young Kiwis will do better as the series progresses. Nick and Alistair had never ridden a four stroke, hadn't even seen a Kart Track before this event!

These bikes are a real blast,

Alot of fun,

I rode one that is bucket raced but set up similar to Aussie spec.

You are pinning it up a flat tack right hander drop it down 2 gears compression lock the rear wheel engine back fire pull the throttle wide again and it takes off so much fun I really would be keen on racing this class.

And they are soooooo cheap

bring them in cheap from Thailand buy the race titanium exhaust system for 80 bucks I think
Race CDI so engine gets mega over rev 60 bucks I think
Set of Vee Rubber slicks etc
And fit a early 1990 RM80 Carb really makes the engine sing

Awesome news, didn't think it had started yet, her parents had been talking about going over. Really nice kid & a sponge for information. If she keeps improving at this rate she'll go far.

- Heck, I'm starting to get a bit worried about the Bucket GP this weekend:shit: Maybe she'll clean us all up. Have to get my big book of excuses ready.

And wont we be seeing you this weekend at Slipway circuit Dave?

The biggest job is to shift the cultural "centre of gravity" within clubs running events. Too much "it won't work", "too hard" and "nice work, but not in my backyard thanks" in most clubs. If you're keen to help, you can do few basic things right now. Get busy within your own racing circles and lobby for improved support for the new youngsters. Create the environment, and it'll happen. And what does this environment look like?
1) Promotion
2) Support
3) Coaching
4) Training (on /off track)
5) Coordinating resources at events, (bikes, tech etc)
6) Getting clubs to provide training classes during unused track time such as lunch times. Get senior riders interested to go and help the. This will develop relationships.
7) Getting clubs to provide safe and level playing feild classes.
8) Free entry for dedicated coaches.
9) Low cost entry for under 17 year olds.

No rocket science here.

And that's why we invited Avalon, Andy, Kenneth, and Glen down here last year, so they are ambassadors and the "seeds" for such a new culture.
So your new team is is ready made, and I assure it will grow very quickly with 1) thru to 9) added.

Go for it, call me for any help any time.

To clear any misunderstandings; Karl Morgan is not Avalon's brother or half brother, he kindly lent her a set of leathers to get her started and she is still wearing them while waiting for a new set. Karl, along with Dave Manuel and Gary Cunningham, also coaches Avalon and anyone else interested at the Auckland bucket track . Pity about Pukekohe not being suitable for 150 racing, would it be possible to put a chicane on the front and back straights just with cones to give the 150's an Akld track? Got to be a good development class rather than the expense and maintenance of 125GP.
Regarding Australia Avalon finished 8th in the final but for the Red Bull series there is bonus points for 5 riders judged by three independant people for MACS; Marketability, Attitude, Character and Skill. Bonus points of 8,5,3,2,1. She got second highest and the 5 extra points moving her to 5th overall for Red Bull series but I think remains on 8th for the Australian championship so far. 21 riders at Oran Park, less than expected, probably because bikes too expensive - must come from Honda Australia. First round for Juniors was on the basic figure 8 of Oran Park circuit, fairly big compared to Kart tracks and small for a GP circuit. Karts do use some of this end of the track with extra wiggly bits chucked in as well.

Oi, i resent that man!!

Stones on my street are to blame.. im gonna email the counsil soon... they need to be swept!!

yer, that's what i thought, and i noticed that the front wheel had very little use ... so from all the wheel stands, and burnouts......the belt finaly gave out when i wanted to pull away from a round-about....maybe if i had tried to wheel stand away????

yea
Either that or work on your clutch control....it has no HP, but plenty of belt snapping torques eh?? Not good when ya drop th clutch....we can ask a rental car (pulsar, blue) about that..........
