Okay, okay, okay I can hear the flack coming right away...I went and bought a neck nut to help me with my spine issues, looks a bit like a cross between an oxen yoke, a queen elizabeth collar - don't go there, and something Mr Spock invented cling on's on the starboard bow captain.
I am going to give it a go on the ride on Sunday, hopefully will provide more stability for my neck and take off some of the strain.

Whatever keeps you riding guy... of course I may just ride out to Rimutex to gawp at that!! (Can't go on the whole ride though...)
Seriously - they use them for cage racing don't they?

Does the opening go at the front or rear of the neck?

Also doubles as a hemorrhoid ring by the look of it.

BB, if it makes you feel better, I'll wear mine.
Edit: Mine's from kart racing, which I did during my break from motorcycling. But karting was harder on my neck the a Colapop hug so I had to stop. Then I got fat.

Stuck for a reply to that one Jim...

Mike at WMCC mentioned he used one in kart racing.

A pain in the arse....used for very long rides...

Dad used to have one when he did offroad racing in cages. Lots of random forces in that sport, getting airborn and getting shaken from left to right when you land.
On a bike... I tend to move my head around a lot, especially when cornering. When you're looking through a long right-hand corner, your head is actually bent to the left quite a bit, depending on lean angle, so it's upright. I imagine this thing would constrict that somewhat. But then again, if you've got back issues, you might not be moving your head much anyway.

Interesting. I'd have thought it would have been at the back. My observation is that when riding at speed my head is tilted backwards (because the body is leaning forwar but the head needs to be level). Which on a long ride makes for a stiff neck
I'd have thought the "roll" part might have been at the front to support the weight of the head and take the load of the muscles at the back of the neck which must otherwise hold it tilted back .
Let us know how it goes. I'm always keen on anything that makes for a more comfortable ride over distances.

Good to hear you doing all you can to extend your enjoyment of the ride! You won't hear anything negative from me on this score.

I will be interested to see how well the thing works out for you. I have an old neck injury that means I need a faired bike to keep the wind pressure off my head. Something like this may help.

A friend used to use one of those when he had cameras mounted on his helmet. Provided support and he swore by it.
I used to rib him about the fact that it looked like an old fashioned magnet and "does it pick up bits of metal?":dodge:

Used to wear one co-driving, helps tone down head movements whilst trying to read, plus you'll be thankfull you're wearing one if the unfortunate was to happen...

Did 80km over the Rimutaka Hill and back this morning, the neck nut proved very very satisfactory. On the V-Strom I have a pretty upright riding position and the helmet sat nice on top of the neck nut collar giving plenty of support and a reasonably relaxed, not much muscle tension in the neck. Could actually feel the comfort with slight head tilt back and side to side, when you can then notice the support provided.
Heads Up and Enjoy
